Summary of CV

This section describes briefly a summary of your career in science, academic and research; themain scientific and technological achievements and goals in your line of research in the medium-and long- term. It also includes other important aspects or peculiarities.

All my research training was carried out in the Chemistry of Cement Group in the EduardoTorroja Institute for Construction Sciences (IETcc-CSIC), where his main line of research isthe Cement and Technology Concrete. In the past 20 years, the main activity of the grouphas been directed to developing new Technologies of Alkali Cements and Concretes, alsocalled Geopolymers or Eco-Efficient Cements.

My current research focuses on the preparation of new cementitious materials through alkaliactivation of different natural products (metakaolin) and industrial by-products, such as blastfurnace slag of fly ash, using different activators (NaOH, Na2CO3 or waterglass solution).My major accomplishments are contributions to highlight the importance of using alternativesolutions to activate the previous precursors, due to the commercial sodium silicates involvesa high energy demand in its production process involves a high greenhouse emissions. Aninnovate way to obtain alternative alkaline activators solutions is through the use of differentwaste glasses.

The following is a summary of the most significant features of my curriculum:

* Ph.D in Chemistry (University Autonoma of Madrid, 2015): Summa Cum Laude Honours * Grants and scholarships: 8 month postgraduate specialization grant (UAM); 4 yearpredoctoral grant FPI (Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, BES-2011-043554);* I have authored 6 articles: all have been published in SCI Journals: 3 in the first quartile(Q1) and 3 in second (Q2) quartile. In > 66% of the articles, I was the first author ( H Index= 3) (45 CITATIONS) (Scopus database).* I am co-author in 1 book chapter: (Chapter 4: "Reuse of urban and industrial waste glassas novel activator for alkali-activated slag cement pastes: A case study". Activation, behaviour and durability") was to prepare newcementitious materials (binders) by alkali-activated industrial waste or by-products (industrial and urbanglass, blast furnace slag, fly ash and so on) by studying the viability of the use of such waste glass aspotential alkaline activators. Once this objective has been achieved with suitable results, we want to goa step beyond and further research into the production of alternative materials to Portland cement, whichare obtained through significant energy savings (different types of waste are used in their manufacture)and no emissions of greenhouse gases. - These optimised samples were evaluated by: a) Isothermalconduction calorimetry to monitor the reactions involved based on the heat flow and rate of heat release.b) Chemical and mineralogical characterisation. Determination of the composition of the solid phases withXRD, FTIR, RAMAN spectroscopy, A.A., ICP and ionic chromatography (I.C.) analysis of aqueous phasesdrawn from the mixes (pastes and mortars) by pore pressing. I.C. determination of the alkalis fixed on thereaction products. c) Nano- and micro-structural characterisation. Scanning electron microscopic studyand SEM/EDX, BSEM/EDX and TEM/EDX micro-analysis of the pastes and mortars. Solid and pore phasemorphology. Spatial distribution. Nuclear magnetic resonance (27Al and 29Si) study of solids and anhydrousand hydrated solid phases. Comparison of the structures forming in these systems with the structuresknown to form in alkali-activated slag and fly ash systems. Variations over time. - Study of the durability ofthe new cements, mortars and concretes when exposed to aggressive agents: a) Aggressive chemicals.Durability when attacked by sulfates and seawater using the Kock and Stteineger method. Several series of1x1x6-cm prismatic mortar specimens will be introduced in aggressive solutions of 4,4 % Na2SO4 (w/w) andseawater prepared as specified in standard ASTM D1141-76. b) Carbonation (ASTM C666) in these alkalinesystems c) Rapid chloride permeability test (ASTM C1202) and resistivity test in concretes. d) Stability ofthese alkaline mortars when exposed to aggregate-alkali-induced expansive processes (ASTM C1260-94)e) Aggressive physical agents. Moist-dry, freeze-thaw and high-low temperatures tests. - Determination ofthe rheological behaviour of the new pastes and mortars.
