Work experience

Position –Graduate Mechanical Engineer September 2014 – Present

Following graduating from University, I was offered a position at Morgan Sindall Professional Services in the Mechanical design department, based in London. Since returning to Morgan Sindall, I have been working on a Crossrail project, carrying out calculations, preparing drawings and supporting programme planning roles. I have also joined the IMechE chartership scheme and aim to become a chartered engineer within the next 3 to 4 years through the involvement of complex and dynamic projects at Morgan Sindall.

Position – Undergraduate in Global Operations June 2013 – August 2013

I completed a 10 week placement at CGT working in the Global Operations department. I was assigned the task of completing a competitor analysis in regard to manufacturing capabilities, concentrating on levels of automation and company global trends. The experience at CGT was invaluable, as I was working

across departments to obtain information as well as extensive time on the factory floor to gain thorough understanding of the manufacturing processes. On my final day of the placement, I presented my findings to senior members of the company in an hour long presentation including questions. The work I carried out at CGT improved my research, communication and presentations skills. The feedback from the presentation was hugely positive, with subsequent actions following including discussions for improved R&D facilities.

Position – Undergraduate Mechanical Engineer July 2012 – September 2012

During the summer of 2012, I worked for a small wind turbine manufacturing company. They were preparing to launch their new 11kW turbine and were at the latter stage of the development when I joined. During my time at FuturEnergy, I wrote a design file for the wind turbine to prove its safety, structural and fatigue performance as well as predicted performance and annual output of the wind turbine. By the end of my placement with FuturEnergy I had completed the design file for the wind turbine, had involvement with the control philosophy for the wind turbine and developed numerous business-wise skills. This data was then used as part of the wind turbine’s submission for accreditation.

Position – Trainee Mechanical Services Engineer July 2006 – August 2010

I completed an apprenticeship in Mechanical Services Engineering after finishing my GCSE’s. During the apprenticeship I attended college one day a week to obtain a National Certificate and a Higher National Certificate in Building Services Engineering which was mechanically biased.

Personal interests I enjoy white water kayaking and prior to university regularly coached groups of 11-16 year olds on flat water. I also participated in annual races in Axmouth and Stratford upon Avon. During University I continued to be involved with other water sports including wind surfing which I continue to partake in following graduation in 2014.
