Work history

Business director, Smart living, Helsinki Business and Science Park Ltd, Helsinki, Finland (2012-2014)

Helsinki Business and Science Park Ltd was an innovation and development company owned by leading innovation actors in Finland. With a new strategy it was to create and support an innovative business ecosystem in smart living. Our objective was to support entrepreneurship and improve growth opportunities of our customers both in the domestic and international markets. We did this by providing commercialization and other business services as well as development initiatives for the innovation ecosystem. HBSP also implemented the National Innovation Strategy in food innovation where it ran the regional Centre of Expertise in food development. In 2013 the company focused its operations in solely food industry and changed its name to Makery.

As a business director, I was responsible for concepts and programs to catalyse new solutions business in societal challenges, especially in the fields of smart living and food systems. I was also in charge of the food innovation operations of the regional Centre of Expertise. I designed and marketed a program for Urban Food Systems that is supported by the Helsinki Region strategy, service provider sector and the national r&d organizations. First Urban Food Systems projects were designed and partly executed by me. The changes in company strategy and management, however, did not allow further activities in this field.

Program director, Health and wellbeing, Culminatum Innovation Oy Ltd, Espoo, Finland (2008 - 2012)

Culminatum Innovation Oy Ltd was an innovation agency in Helsinki Region, operating nationally and internationally, implementing the National Innovation Strategy and the Metropolitan Competitiveness Strategy. The company was a neutral platform for open innovation and cooperation. It focused on two main missions: 1) managing cluster building activities of the knowledge-based economy, 2) developing the Helsinki Region as part of a world class innovation ecosystem. Center of Expertise in Health and Wellbeing builds sustainable service market in health care and well-being sectors by combining expertise from private, public and research sector. The work was based on user-centricity and transnational cooperation.

In the Centre of Expertise in Health and Wellbeing, I started my work by a strategy process for the centre of expertise. In catalysing the value network, we made quite a turn from public sector r&d orientation to end user- and service provider -driven innovation. I ideated and started up projects aimed at increasing the impact of health and wellbeing –related technologies and services business. The main focus in my work was in providing and marketing business opportunities for SMEs to internationalize, mainly in Europe and Asia. I was very successful in designing and organizing transnational projects for this purpose and applying funding for them; we got the

funding needed, and every project started. My project team executed the projects, often in a coordinator role.

On a more industry-generic level, I took part in a 10-country ministerial level working group to design the EU macro-regional Baltic Sea Region strategy –based flagship program BSR Stars on Innovation, Clusters and SMEs http://www.bsrstars.se , where Culminatum Innovation got a role as the national coordinator of BSR Stars and macro-regional coordinator of ‘Clusters’ sector of BSR Stars. I designed and started one of the first five BSR Stars pilots, Active for Life, aiming to create transnational user-centric services and solutions business to keep the vital ageing population an active part of the society.

Director and Senior Consultant, Talent Vectia, Espoo, Finland (2004 - 2008)

Talent Vectia (formerly Talent Partners Group) is the leading Finnish management consulting and training company in the country. Acquired by Talent Partners Group in 2006, Talent Public Consulting (previously Finnish Institute of Public Management / Consulting) was a company serving public and third sector, building bridges to enhance public-private cooperation in service provision. From 2012 it operates as part of the parent company.

In the start-up process of Talent Public Consulting I managed one of three business units, Service and Operating Models. My responsibilities included sales, service development and consulting in the following services: strategies, service and operating models, outsourcing, change management and management team training. Under the previous ownership, in the Finnish Institute of Public Management (2004-2006), I consulted health care sector and ran the Health Care Development business unit. My projects were in the fields of eg. new service models (outsourcing entire health care), process development, strategy.

Manager, Datawell Oy, Espoo, Finland (2001 – 2004)

Datawell is a strongly performing ICT company specialized in developing and delivering highly developed analysing software solutions as well as modern regional patient data delivery systems for health care management. It is 80% privately owned and very profitable.

As a business manager I was responsible for business planning and successful design and implementation of management solutions to university hospitals. I also had key account customers and conducted consulting projects for them. My most comprehensive project was from design to business planning to execution: I designed a model for cross-organizational patient process analyses, workload planning and resourcing. I ran the development phase for this new software solution in cooperation with Helsinki University Central Hospital and further on managed the piloting of solution and developing it further. The solution was purchased to eg. all hospitals and wards in Helsinki and Uusimaa Hospital District.

Business controller, Helsinki University Central Hospital, Helsinki, Finland (1995-1999)

 4   CV   Leena  Silvennoinen

Helsinki University Central Hospital is the leading university hospital of Finland serving the population of Helsinki and, in highly specialized fields, the whole nation. Shared services (sales 100 M€) were organized into a Shared Services Center.

As part of my financial controller responsibilities I created a modern multi-dimensional financial management model for each of the 10 shared services business units. The job soon evolved into business-like management development of the Shared Services Center. I also worked in the hospital’s information management team. When it was decided to merge two hospital districts and Helsinki city hospitals, I designed the shared services strategy and outsourcing steps for the new Helsinki and Uusimaa Hospital District.

Financial manager and Project manager at Kuva-Sampo Oy, Helsinki, Finland (until 1995).

The company specialized in photographic service industry, with customer segments from amateurs to studio photography to demanding commercial professionals. It was known worldwide for its leading steps in product development.

My operational responsibilities in our family-owned company were mostly in management of a direct marketing business where we developed and ran a quality service concept for 20 years. I was involved in selling this business, including a part of our production, to a Swiss company and establishing the new processes and cross-production procedures. After the sale I was in charge of financial management, purchases, ICT and personnel administration until we sold all photograph-related business in 1994 and the company continued business in other fields.
