CV Writer

Step by Step instructions for creating your CV.

The first step is to login to your account or create an account using the self- registration tool

If you haven’t completed your personal profile it is recommended that you do this first as it makes using the rest of the site easier as the system will prepopulate information for you meaning you do not have to retype duplicate information.

Next choose CV writer from the options.

Start to complete your CV by

working you way through each of

the boxes until you get a tick in

each box.

Personal Details If you have completed your personal profile on the homepage off your account this information will be pre populated for you, please check to make sure all the information is correct and accurate. Once you are happy with the information then press save and update.

A personal profile (also known as a personal statement, CV profile or perhaps even a career aim) is a short statement at the beginning of your CV to sell yourself, to show your skills, experience and personal qualities.

o You could include positive words such as “competent, adaptable and conscientious”.

o Tailor the statement to the requirement of each job that you apply for. Make it clear to the employer that you’re the right person for the job.

o There are some pre written statements in the Pre-Written tab that you can use, or information from your personal profile template can which can be found on the imported tab. Alternatively you can start afresh and write whatever you would like.

o Please note you can use a selection of your own text, prewritten and imported. o If you want to use a pre written statement or part of your profile template

statement click (+) on a segment to copy it to this statement.

Remember use a word processor or similar, using the spell-check facility, and copy and paste over when you’re ready. Don’t let spelling and grammatical

errors spoil your profile.

Remember to spellcheck, use capital letters and full stops where they are

needed.

Personal Profile Using the tab on the left hand side click on personal profile to start completing your personal profile. Once you are happy with the information then press save and update.

o Enter basics information about your qualifications so that employers can see how you did.

o There are some examples in the pre-written tab, if you want to use one just click (+) on a segment to copy it to your statement.

o

Education Complete this section by listing your qualifications and where you studied in order of most recent first. Once you have added your qualifications click on the ”Add new” box at the bottom of the page to add your next qualification. Once you are happy with the information then press save and update.

o Use this to list any jobs you have had, whether full time, part-time or voluntary.

o Your work experience statement from your profile template will be pulled through. If you want to use some of the sentences just click (+) on a segment to copy it to your statement.

Work Experience Complete this section by writing about the skills, knowledge or experience of your employment history. You can include you work experience in here. Start with your most recent first, when you have completed your first entry click the “Add New Entry” button at the bottom of the screen. Once you are happy with the information then press save and update.

Hobbies & Interests Complete this section by writing about a few things that you feel define you beyond your work. Once you are happy with the information then press save and update.

A character reference, also known as a personal reference, is a recommendation provided by someone who knows you outside of work. Personal references can explain your character and abilities.

A professional reference is a recommendation from a person who can vouch for your qualifications for a job. A professional reference for an experienced worker is typically a former employer, a colleague, a supervisor, or someone else who can recommend you for employment.

Make sure each contact details are correct so the employer can easily get in touch with a referee if so required.

Please note: If you are at school please include details of someone from school, for example a teacher or mentor.

Referees Complete this section by inputting a minimum of 1 referees. (ideally you should provide employers with 2) A Referee is someone who the employer can contact if they wish to ask about you or clarify something about you. Once you are happy with the information then press save and update.

Preview you CV Once you have completed all sections you can click preview to see how you CV looks in a PDF document (this will appear at the bottom of your screen to open). You can also save this to your own device if you wish.

Email, Print & Preview your CV Click back on to the CV writer homepage and you will get the option to now Email your CV and Print/Preview you CV. You have now completed your CV.
