Introduction.

Addiction Recovery Consultant. Retired and Registered in the Province of Alberta with the Alberta College of Registered Social Workers and Member of the Canadian Association of Social Workers. Managing Director of Community Addiction Services & Education (C.A.S.E.), and the Impaired Driver Intervention Program with offices in the City of Edmonton, Alberta providing Addiction Counselling, Assessment, Training, Education, and Expert Opinion in the fields of Alcohol, Drugs, Gambling Addictions, Family and Youth related issues.

1996-Present

Providing services to the following:

Grant MacEwan Community College in the area of providing 2nd year Social Work students practicum experience in the application of assessments, individual counselling, couple’s counselling, group counselling, and development of Court appropriate documentation.

Alberta Family and Social Services, Department of Child Welfare in the areas of: Family and Individual Addictions Assessments and recommendations for action by Case Managers and their clients. Provide expert evidence in the areas of Diagnosis, Assessment, Treatment Planning, and Prognosis at Courts of Law on behalf of the Department and the Child Welfare Act. Provide on-site services to adolescents at risk at the Yellowhead Youth Center and the Edmonton Young Offenders Center.

Alberta Alcohol and Drug Addiction Commission (Past) in the areas of Community Development in Addictions Prevention Strategies. Developed, implemented, and coordinated the Community Awareness Project in Problem Gambling, translating Addictions information into the Chinese and Vietnamese languages, in co-operation with the Edmonton Immigrant Services Association, Edmonton Chinese Outreach Association, and the Vietnamese Community association.

Developed and co-ordinated completion of the Database Development of Current Community Resources in Edmonton on Problem Gambling project, in co-operation with Changing Together: A Centre for Immigrant Women.

Developed and implemented the Dissemination of Information Relating to Problem Gambling to English-as-a-Second-Language Adult Learners project. Development of a written resource manual and curriculum training for ESL teachers and supervisors.

Correctional Services Canada, by co-development, implementation, and active facilitation of Canada’s first 28 day In-Patient Substance Abuse Program. Including Addiction Assessment, Diagnosis, Treatment, Treatment Planning, Prognosis, and Recommendations to CSC regarding Federal Offenders identified as needing an intensive Substance Abuse Program. Provide Risk Factor assessments regarding relapse into destructive behaviours.

Facilitate the On-Site Relapse Prevention Program including Anger Management Training at the Grierson Centre, Minimum Security Institution and the Stan Daniels Community Correctional Centre for parolees with residency and incarcerated inmates. Developed policy and budget management with contractor in main.

Alberta Justice, Dept. Community Corrections/Probation, providing written and verbal reports on progress, prognosis, and recommendations for action by Probation Officers and their Adolescent and Adult clients. Providing addictions counselling, ongoing treatment action plans, and crisis management as requested.

Edmonton Catholic School Board, Department of Continuing Education, developing, implementing, and facilitating specialist training and workshops on Addictions Assessment and the inclusion of an Addictions information curriculum in classroom settings.

Changing Together: A Centre for Immigrant Women, Addictions Prevention Programs development and implementation, community addictions awareness workshops. Consulting on Government funded projects where budget limitation required creative and effective management

Edmonton Immigrant Services Association, Culturally relevant Addictions Prevention Programs development and implementation. Working with families and youth at risk during cultural conflict episodes. Project and programs consultant with requirement for managing within limited budgets.

Distinctive Education and Counselling Services Association (DECSA), Addictions Assessment, counselling, and referral with a focus on women-in-need.

Alberta Construction Labour Relations Association, Assist in the development of a supervisors guide to administering Alcohol and Drug Policies, and train where necessary.

Provide Expert Assessments, Reports, Diagnosis, Treatment Planning and Recommendations to the Courts of Alberta, and in addition, conduct the above in institutional settings such as EYOC, ERC, RDRC, and Provincial and Federal Institutions.

Prepare Assessment, Pre-Sentence Reports, Pre-and Post Release Community Action, Treatment, and Support Planning and Representation to all levels of Court including Family and Youth, Custody, and Criminal in Alberta including Queen’s Bench, Appellate, Community Corrections Probation Officers, Parole Officers, and the National Parole Board.

Provide Counseling and Assessment Services to the Boyle MacCauley Health Center Physicians and medical staff for general practice patients and participants in the Opiate Dependency Program. Provide Health Advocate services for patients requiring community access interventions at the professional level including family and social related legal issues representation.

Accepting referrals from, and providing consultative client reviews to, Community education and medical professionals including Doctors of Medicine, Psychiatry, and Psychology

EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE 1991 - 1996

Alberta Alcohol and Drug Addiction Commission - Addiction Counsellor

Completed addictions assessments in the areas of Alcohol, Drugs, and Gambling.Determined Diagnosis, Treatment Planning, Prognosis of individuals experiencing difficulty with alcohol, drugs, and problem gambling.

Provided counselling, assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, to various mainstream community services providers including: University of Alberta Department of Psychiatry,Royal Alexandra Hospital, Employers, Physicians, Medical Professionals, Schools, Alberta Worker’s Compensation Board, Alberta Child Welfare, Alberta Family and Social Services, Correctional Services Canada, Alberta Justice, and other funded Addictions Agencies.

Conducted individual, couples, family, and group counselling at AADAC Adult Services, AADAC West End Treatment Centre, and the Henwood Treatment Centre.

Developed, implemented, and presented inpatient lectures/seminars for clients of the Henwood Treatment Centre including Anger Management and Grief and Loss coursework.

Facilitated and presented the AADAC Information Series at AADAC Adult Services. Provided support counselling and referral to parents of children at risk for developing or maintaining destructive behaviours

Presented public workshops on Problem Gambling, Addiction Prevention, Treatment, and Assessment methodologies.

Developed and Implemented the Interpreter Access Program for clients of AADAC who experienced difficulty with English as a second Language.

Assisted in the practicum supervision of medical students, doctors, nurses, and other individuals wishing to gain a comprehensive knowledge of the field of addiction through practical experience at the AADAC Henwood Treatment Centre.

Provided counselling, support, and life skills training to high functioning mentally challenged adults.
