SUMMARY

Firouz Daneshgari is an executive surgeon-scientist with clinical and investigative expertise in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPM&RS) who currently is Professor of Surgery and Urology at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Daneshgari completed his medical, clinical and surgical trainings at University of Tehran (1983), Loyola University of Chicago (1987), University of Chicago (1991), University of Colorado (1997) and UT Southwestern (1998), and his executive MBA at Case Western Reserve University (2013). His employments have been with University of Colorado in Denver, Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland Ohio, where he served as the 3rd Chairman of Urology (2009-2014). He founded a health care start up company (BowTie Medical) in 2013, and currently serves as its President. He is double board certified in Urology and FPM&RS. Accomplishments & Contributions - Since completion of his training in 1998, Dr. Daneshgari has accomplished and led implementation of several large scale and long term clinical and academic innovations that have changed the practice of Urology and FPM&RS. These innovative concepts and their execution have included:

Formation of integrated and interdisciplinary care of women with Female Pelvic Floor Disorders among urologists and gynecologists. These efforts led to 2011 ACGME approval of FPM&RS as an board qualified independent subspeciality for urology and gynecology.

Establishment of concept, infrastructure and design of training of a new generation of surgeon-scientists through several national initiatives with transition to fully supported program by the NIH through T-32 and K-12 grants. These have led to training of over 60 clinical fellows; post-doctoral fellows, residents and other post-graduate trainees from 8 countries and national leadership roles at the NIH and American Urological Association

Formation of one of the most successful interdisciplinary research teams in Urology, continuously funded by NIH and State and Federal agencies. In recognition of his contribution to the field, Dr. Daneshgari received the 2007 Paul Zmikind award for ‘Continuous contribution and excellence”. He has published over 100 peer reviewed articles and 25 book chapters, and serves on numerous leadership roles in academia.

Leadership & Innovation: As the 3rd Chairman of University Hospitals Urology program and Department of Urology at Case Western Reserve University and beginning in 2009, Dr. Daneshgari founded the “Urology Institute’ and led the largest expansion of the urology program at this University with the following results:

250% growth in size of faculty, clinical enterprise and production, by transformation of the Department to an Institute with establishments of 12 Centers of Excellences; a leadership council; an administrative Core; and a marketing and outreach core. This has resulted to improve ranking in the annual US News & World Report from no ranking in 2009, to #49 (2010); #40 (2011), and #17 (2012) in the U.S.

400% growth in research productivity including funded grants and publications, and inter/national presence, leading to improved ranking in Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research ranking to #19 (2010), #16 (2011), #12 (2013) in the U.S.

350% increase in total contribution margin to University Hospitals Case Medical Center. Dr. Daneshgari stepped down from his chair position in June 2014 to focus on his start up company and continue to work on his clinical, mentoring and investigative work.
