Friends of Canadian BroadcastingFormed in 1985, Friends of Canadian Broadcasting (Friends) is a watchdog for Canadian programming on TV, the

Friends are an independent, Canada-wide, non-partisan voluntary organization supported by 180,000 households

defend and enhance the quality and quantity of Canadian programming in the Canadian audio-visual system.

Friends of Canadian Broadcasting is petitioning to protect the CBC by attempting to preserve:

- CBC Radio music and programming

- Iconic personalities

- Local programming

- Local news departments

- Distinctive Canadian content

- In-house TV production- Children’s TV

- The award-winning documentary unit

- Live music production on radio

- Local news coverage changes (90 minute format now slashed to 30 minutes)

The Issue: Cuts to CBC Funding

Years of successive governments playing politics with the CBC’s budg

regulatory functions has left the broadcaster vulnerable and they are

of being dismantled for good. Despite the CBC being one of the world

public broadcasting organizations and a key component to Canadian

still believe it to be a waste of public funding. Friends’ mission is to fig

public broadcaster and reverse the damage done to their budget and

cuts.
