Question 1: Describe a time when you have persevered against the odds and overcome
obstacles to achieve a goal. Explain how you approached the situation, what difficulties you
were faced with and what the outcomes was?
When I was in the last year at university, I intended to further my study overseas, and Singapore
is my number one priority. My academic skills are very good and I achieved a relatively high
score for all subjects. Everything seemed ready for my Bachelor program in Singapore except
one problem, which was my weak English skills. I understood that I would not be able to study in
Singapore if my English was not good enough, and at least I had to get 6.5 for the IELTS test to
be accepted by universities in Singapore. With the desire to study overseas, I decided to spend a
year studying English from the start.
Although I had studied English at high school before, my English was still at a basic level. It is
difficult for me to study alone everyday because I could not focus on my lessons; therefore, I
decided to join some English class at a big English center in Hanoi. I started at the elementary
level with 5 students in my class and a Bristish teacher. I came to the class three days a week and
tried to arrange my study at school the most appropriately, then I could have enough time for my
English class. I always did my homework and spoke English as much as possible in class,
moreover, I also joined an English club in Hanoi to meet other English learners and share
experiences with them.
My English study went very well, however, my study at university was so hard that sometimes I
had to miss out on my English class and some important speaking lessons. At that time, my
speaking skill was probably the worst one. In order to overcome that weakness, I ask my teacher
for his help and he agreed to give me 30 minutes extra after each lesson, then he talked to me in
English to help me improve my speaking skills.
After one year studying English, I went up to the advanced level and ready to take the IELTS
exam 3 months after the English course finished. I got 7.5 for my IELTS test and this is one of
my proudest achievements. Now I am studying in Singapore and always confident to
communicate in English with international friends.

Question 2: Give an example of an idea you have had for improving performance of doing
something better. Explain how you came up with the idea, how you implemented it and
what benefits it has produced?
Since high school I want to become a business officer in the future; however, living in a rural
area did not allow me to see many things related to finance, Marketing and big organizations.
Once I went to Hanoi for my study at university, I have more chance to make my dream come
true.
In big cities like Hanoi, there are many activities for student held in a year, especially the
operation of student fairs in the Summer. I started my dream by an idea about selling ice cream at
those fairs. As a student, I did not have much money for a business idea, therefore I asked my
friends to join me. We planned together and assigned job to each member. I was in charge of
buying ice cream from suppliers and keeping in touch with them during our business. We made
loss at the first time, however, since the second time, we started to make profits, and the revenue
increased through the time.
The idea of selling ice cream at student fairs helps me understand about how a real business runs
and how to organize people in a group effectively.
Question 3: Give an example of when it has been crucial for you to build a strong
relationship with members of a wider team. Explain why this relationship was important,
what you did to build it and how it helped you achieve your objectives?
In the last year at high school, I joined an environmental project, which was launched with the
aim to raise people’s awareness about the importance of the environment. Each member in the
project was in charge of a small group of secondary pupils. I was a leader of a group of 10
secondary pupils, and my duty was to teach them how to sort out the different kinds of rubbish
and how to recycle them. With that, they can help more people in their community to do similar
things.
In order to ensure the efficiency of the project, I needed to connect all members of the group,
because a good relationship with them can be a motivation for them to perform better and show
more enthusiasm. I talked with each member of my group about their family and dreams as this is
a good way for me to understand them and their ability.
