Johnson Brothers has been in operationsince 1905 when Eno Johnson and his familymoved from Chicago to Idaho Falls. JohnsonBrothers remains “family owned” and isoperated today by Eno Johnson’s threegrandsons, David L. Sargis, Eno J. Sargis and Lindsay R. Sargis.

Johnson Brothers has grown from a generalconstruction business to a business thatincludes custom wood cabinets, plasticlaminate, casework, doors, windows,staircases, commercial hardware and finearchitectural mouldings and millwork.

Johnson Brothers’ projects includecommercial buildings, financial andgovernmental institutions, as well as largeresidential homes.

This catalog contains the various types ofwood and patterns of moulding and trimthat Johnson Brothers currently produces.The more popular patterns are inventoried atour warehouse in both oak and poplar.Moulding patterns can also be produced inAlder (Clear or Knotty), Ash, Birch, Cherry,Hickory, Mahogany, Maple, Pine (Clear orKnotty), Walnut and White Oak. Nonstockmoulding patterns can be produced on aminimum order basis from patterns andknives that are inventoried by Johnson

Decorative moulding, along with yourimagination, creates a style uniquely your own.Used alone or in combinations, mouldings notonly add charm and aesthetic value, but alsoformalize a room, create the illusion of space andadd detail and value to your home. The creativeuse of decorative moulding makes the differencebetween a house and a home.

PRODUCTAll Johnson Brothers mouldings arepaint and/or stain ready. We stockall solid wood mouldings with theexception of some fingerjointmaterial. Due to separateproduction run times, mouldingprofiles may vary slightly. Wecontinue to strive to maintainthe strictest quality in all

of our products.

RECOMMENDATIONS FORINSTALLATION OFHARDWOOD MOULDINGS▲ Moulding should be stored indoors and off ofthe floor to keep it dry. ▲ Allow mouldings to acclimate for 3 to 5days in cool temperatures. ▲ Adequate blocking is needed to attachcrowns to ceilings and wide casing to walls. ▲ During installation, nail mouldings securelyto studs and glue mitred corners. Adhesivescan be used when blocking is not available.Mitres can receive biscuit-type joinery. ▲ Due to environmental conditions, we are notresponsible for changes in mouldings during orafter installation.

RETURNSAll returns must be made within 10 days ofpurchase and accompanied with the originalsales receipt. Items in good resellablecondition will be subject to a minimum 20%restocking charge and are F.O.B. buyer. Noaltered or unsellable material will be acceptedfor credit return.

SPECIAL ORDERS ANDCUSTOM MILL RUNSThese orders require a nonrefundable 50%deposit. Approved and signed shop drawingsare required. Custom mouldings are notreturnable.

FlextrimTM is a uniquely flexible moulding used to enhancearched windows, doors, curved walls and base corners. 67BALUSTERS The vertical poststhat support the railing of thestaircase. The term “balustrade”refers to the baluster and railsystem.

COVE MOULDING A decorativestrip that, when attached tothe underside of the treadnosing, covers the joint betweenthe tread and riser.

FILLET Strips that fill the plowbetween balusters on plowedhandrail and shoe rail.

FITTINGS The stair parts used toform a smooth transition when thehandrail changes height ordirection. For example, starting abalustrade (volute, turnout,starting easing) at a landing(gooseneck) and at a balcony.

HANDRAILS The horizontal orrake member of a balustradesystem. It sits on top of thebalusters and is supported bynewel posts.

NEWELS The major supportposts for the balustradesystem. Larger and heavier thanthe balusters, newels arelocated at the bottom and topof a staircase and at turns andcritical support areas of balconyrails.

NOSING The portion of a treador landing tread that protrudesbeyond the face of the riser.

RAKE The slope or angle of thestaircase (also referred to asrake angle).

RISERS The vertical componentof a stair that supports thetreads.

SHOE RAIL A piece runningalong the floor that is plowed forthe insertion of balusters andfillets.

STARTING STEPS The firsttread and riser at the bottom ofthe staircase.

TREADS The horizontal portionof the staircase that is walkedupon.
