Gertrude Mary latremouille
Gertrude Latremouille passed awaypeacefully on June 14, 2016. Gertie was pre-deceased by her husband Louis, brothersWalter, Norman and Charlie, sister thelmaWhite and granddaughter Rebecca arnet.Gertie is lovingly remembered by sister DotKennedy and brother John (Lyda) Eastman,sons Micheal (Janet) and Vernon (Lorna),daughters Glenna Richards and Marie(Nathan) Matthew, grandsons Bill Richards,Gene Latremouille, Mark (Nicole) Matthewand granddaughters Jodi (Jason Nyeste) La-tremouille, Sarah (Wylie) Mitchell, and greatgrandchildren, amanda & Jailene, Colton &Gary, Wyatt, Lucas & Rayel, taylor & Kiera,and Surya & althea. She will also be dearlymissed by a great many extended familymembers and close friends, including WesleyBickerton, Marie Beebe, Dave Marriott & ViNorman, and the Honourable Judy Guichon.
Gertie was born on Christmas day, 1923,on the family farm in Griffin Creek, alberta,where she grew up. She met her future hus-band, Louis, in Victoria in the early forties.Gertie and Louis enjoyed 59 years together,sharing a love of the outdoors and involve-ment with community. they raised their fam-ily in Little Fort, where Gertie was a memberof the Catholic Women’s League and the Lit-tle Fort Women’s Institute. together, theyowned and operated Rock Island Lake Fish-ing Camp from 1947-1959. In 1967, the familymoved to Lower Nicola, when Louis wastransferred with the BC Forest Service. Gertiewas again an active member of her commu-nity, as a square dancer, homemaker, andlong-time volunteer for the Merritt Citizens’Patrol and the Hospital auxiliary.
Gertie was known for her generosity andgregarious nature. In her later years, she wasa resident at Nicola Meadows, where shemade new friends and re-connected withold acquaintances, and was treated withkindness and respect by all of the staff. Here,she especially enjoyed the weekly bingogames, particularly when she won!
She lived her life with a spirit of opti-mism and found pleasure in her relation-ships with others and by giving whatevershe had to share. all who knew her will re-member her strong, warm hands, her beam-ing smile and her infectious laugh.
We would like to thank the staff ofNicola Meadows, the Merritt Hospital, andFather Ken for their kind care and supportin Gertie’s later years and during her shortillness. a Celebration of Life will be held atthe Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mer-ritt, BC, on July 9th at 1 pm. In lieu of flow-ers, donations to the Heart and StrokeFoundation will be gratefully accepted.
