SEE OLD TOYS IN A WHOLE NEW LIGHT WITH A SIMPLE AFTERNOON PROJECT

R ummage through your kids’ toybox and you’re sure to find a whole host of toys that are either broken or have just

fallen out of favour. Instead of throwing them in the bin, you can use Selleys Power Grip Superior all purpose glue to add these old toys to a plain table lamp to make a custom creation that’ll brighten up their bedroom.

GATHER YOUR SUPPLIES • Old toys and small objects

• Selleys Power Grip Superior all purpose glue, 10g

• Lamp base

• Lamp shade

• Dulux Duramax Undercoat Spray Paint

• Dulux Duramax Flat White Spray Paint

HERE’S HOWSTEP 1 Gather together all your objects and separate them into those that are broken and those that aren’t.

STEP 2 Repair broken objects using Selleys Power Grip Superior All Purpose Glue. It adheres to just about anything* so is sure to work on all your broken items. Apply to one surface to be joined then hold the two pieces together for one to three minutes. Test the adhesive on plastics as not all types are compatible*.

TIP If necessary clamp or tape items to support until adhesive sets.

STEP 3 Collect all your objects together. Lay the items out on the base of your lamp to find the arrangement that works best. Place taller pieces near the centre and the largest pieces on the base. You can then fill in with smaller objects for a layered look.

TIP Take a photo of your arrangement so you can refer back to it as you build.

STEP 4 Spread glue around the objects that will be on the base of the lamp and place them in position. Leave each piece for at least a few minutes for the glue to set.

STEP 5 Continue adhering objects to the lamp and to each other until you are happy with your creation.

STEP 6 Leave the adhesive to cure for 24 hours before preparing for spray painting and painting.

STEP 7 Prepare the lamp for spray painting by covering the light bulb socket with a plastic bag.

STEP 8 For best results, first apply a coat of Dulux Duramax Undercoat spray paint and leave to dry. Follow with three light coats of Dulux Duramax Flat White to give the lamp a unified and modern look.

STEP 9 Once the spray paint has dried, remove the plastic bag and place lamp shade on the decorated lamp stand.
