Manufacturing Notes and Conditions

1. Customer must supply hardware locations and door undercuts. Unless noted otherwise, doors will be

fabricated with a ¾” undercut.

2. Customer must supply dimensions for all light cut outs and glass thickness.

3. Customer must supply all section widths, overall frame dimensions, and anchor type.

4. Customer must supply drawings for sidelights, transom and window frames. The drawings are to include all

dimensions used and glass side with glass thickness.

5. Customer must furnish and unmarked copy of the approved hardware schedule and a complete list of

standard templates required for the project. Non-standard templates and samples of existing hardware must

be furnished upon request from RMMI.

6. RMMI will not start fabrication until all approved information is received.

7. RMMI will mortise, reinforce, drill and trap frames and doors for all mortise type hardware. All holes ½” or

less in diameter are to be field drilled by others.

8. Frames will be reinforced only for application of surface applied hardware such as door checks, transom

operators, brackets, etc. Doors will be reinforced only for application of surface applied hardware such as

door pulls, push plates, door checks, escutcheons, kickplates, etc. All drilling and tapping for surface

hardware to be done in the field by others.

9. Back charges will not be accepted unless inspected and approved by a RMMI representative.

10. RMMI shop drawings have been prepared for our use only and are subject to revisions. Errors incurred by

other trades through the use of these details will not be RMMI responsibility.

11. Items not furnished by RMMI: glass, glazing, hardware, installation, erection, access doors and frames,

weather-stripping silencers, insulation (other than used in door construction) thresholds, caulking, finish

coats of paint, anchor bolts and astragals (other than flat bar type).

12. RMMI will not be responsible for fit of doors if jambs are not set true to plumb, nor for rust caused by

gypsum plaster grouting, grout with anti-freeze additive or muriatic acid brick wash.

Door Construction: Doors shall be made of commercial galvanneald A40 sheet steel meeting ASTM-A-

653. 12GA, 14GA and 16GA available. Doors to have no visible seam on either face if under 10’0 in height or 4’0 in width.

All doors shall have both edges fully welded and ground smooth. All doors to be thoroughly cleaned and will receive one coat of gray rust inhibiting

primer paint. 1100 Series polystyrene doors shall be 1 ¾” thick of composite construction. The

interior of the door shall be filled with a rigid sheet of one pound density poly-styrene which is securely bonded to both face sheets. The vertical edges shall be reinforced by a 16 gauge channel spot-welded to the face sheets. All lock and hinge reinforcements shall be drilled and tapped by the manufacturer. All doors are handed.

1200 Series vertically stiffened doors shall be 1 ¾” thick of hollow metal construc-

tion and shall have continuous 20 gauge vertical stiffeners spaced not to exceed six inches apart. All spaces between stiffeners shall be insulated w/ fiberglass ¾ density insulation. The vertical edges shall be reinforced by a 16 gauge mini-mum continuous steel channel extending full height of the door. The top and bottom of the door shall be reinforced by 16 gauge minimum channel spot welded to the face sheets. All lock and hinge reinforcements shall be drilled and tapped by the manufacturer. All doors are handed.

1300 Series temperature rise doors shall be 1 ¾” thick of composite construction. A

one piece mineral board core shall be securely bonded to both face sheets. The vertical edges shall be reinforced by a 16 gauge channel spot-welded to the face sheets. All lock and hinge reinforcements shall be drilled and tapped by the manufacturer. All doors are handed.

1400 Series Fema 361 vertically stiffened doors shall be 1 ¾” thick 14 gauge of hollow metal construction and shall have continuous 18 gauge vertical stiffen-ers spaced not to exceed six inches apart. All spaces between stiffeners shall be insulated w/ fiber glass ¾” density insulation. The vertical edges shall be reinforced by a 12 gauge minimum continuous steel angle extending full height of the door. The top and bottom of the door shall be reinforced by 12 gauge minimum channel spot welded to the face sheets. All lock and hinge reinforcements shall be drilled and tapped by the manufacturer. All doors are handed. Note all doors must be provided with Securitech hardware for our Fema 361 label to be applied.

1500 Series vertically stiffened lead lined doors shall be 1 ¾” thick of hollow

metal construction and shall have continuous 20 gauge vertical stiffeners spaced not to exceed six inches apart. All spaces between stiffeners shall be insulated w/ fiberglass ¾” density insulation. A lead lined sheet of 1/32”, 1/16” or 1/8” shall be applied between steel ribs and the door skin. The vertical edges shall be reinforced by a 16 gauge minimum continuous steel channel extending full height of the door. The top and bottom of the door shall be rein-forced by 16 gauge minimum channel spot welded to the face sheets. All lock and hinge reinforcements shall be drilled and tapped by the manufacturer. All doors are handed.

Face sheets to be formed from 12, 14, 16 or 18 Gauge Galvannealed A40 steel. A60 available. 7 Gauge—1 1/4” x 10” joggled hinge reinforcing. Drilled and tapped per template. 12 Gauge mortised hardware mounting tabs. 14 Gauge surface hardware and trim reinforcement, prepared for mortised units by hardware templates. 16, 18, 20 or 22 gauge door ribs, per arch, specifications, vertically spaced at 6” on center—spot welded at 4” on center (standard is 22 gauge) reinforce perimeter of all cutouts with channel. 16 Gauge door top and bottom channels welded in place. Vertical door edges are to be welded full length and finished smooth and seamless. All door glazing stops to be set for 1/4” glass (3/8” space) unless otherwise requested by contractor. (NOTE) Glass should be cut 3/8” less than door cutout (exposed glass opening is 1 1/2” less than cutout dimensions,) Louver size is actual size of door cutout. Astrangals will be furnished on all exterior pairs of doors where assigned hardware permits. U.L. Rated pairs of doors must have astrangals if removable mullions or 2 vertical rod exit devices are not as-signed. 1/8” between pairs of doors, head 1/8”, jamb 1/8” bottom undercut 3/4” unless otherwise noted.

Manufacturing Tolerances for Frames Frames for single door or pair of doors: Width, measured between rabbets at the head; nominal opening width +1/18” – 1/32” Height (total length of jamb rabbet): nominal opening height +/- 3/64”

Frames overlapping walls to have throat dimension 1/8” greater than dimensioned wall thickness to ac-commodate irregularities in wall construction.

All miters are die cut to permit close tolerances. Inside perimeter of stop and face trim joints are welded,

exposed welds are finished smooth.

12 Gauge surface closure reinforcing. Mortising and reinforcing as required by assigned closure template.

12 Gauge—strike reinforcing, drilling and tapping to template.

7 Guage—1 1/4” x 10” joggled hinge reinforcing. Drilled and tapped per template.

16 Gauge wall anchors are designed to suit wall conditions. Counter sinks with angle spacer behind frame provided for anchorage (all bolts by others)

Frames are mortised reinforced. Cut out and beveled to insure proper operation with assigned hardware.

All frames punched for silencers: 3@ singles, 2@ doubles (silencers by others)

Removable glazing stops to be 11/16’” typical. 1/16“ caulking space each side of glass shall be allowed unless otherwise requested by the contractor.
