Requirements forsmall terminalsCement companieslooking for opportunitiesto supply markets fasteror seeking to conquer newones need to expand theirdistribution network andinstall new cement depots.
Therefore, they requiresmall terminals, whichare able to handle about100 to 250 thousand tonsof cement per year.
Custom-built terminals insteel construction offerthe most advantagesbecause of their flexible
design possibilities, lowneed for civil works, short erection time andlow investment costs. Depending on customerneeds, the design com-prises 2-8 steel silos, eachwith capacities of 1000 to3500 t for storing differ-ent cement products.
The silos are equippedwith pneumatic dischargesystems, which areadaptable for differentdiameters from 8-13 mand different capacities.
The silos have a raisedbottom for direct bulkloading into trucks or rail-
cars with capacities upto 350 t/h. Eithertelescopic loading chutesor IBAU Mobile loaderscan be used.
The different silos andloading lanes should beequipped with separatededusting filters to avoidthe mixing of differentproducts in the terminal.
Optionally there may beinstalled pneumatic tankerunloading facilities, anintegrated mechanicalmixer for the productionof special cements or apacking line for theproduction of bagged
cements. All terminaloperations are simple, dependable, free of dustand can be fullyautomated.
Why to buildwith IBAU?IBAU HAMBURG is oneof very few companiesthat are able to installsuch terminals on aturnkey-base. The com-pany has designed andbuilt terminals exactlyaccording to customerswishes, completelyfulfilling their expecta-tions, as can be seen onthe following pages.

BIMITA Terminal,Dresden, Germany
This drawing shows thegeneral arrangement ofthe BIMITA terminal.
The name BIMITA is anabbreviation and it standsfor „filling station forbuilding material com-pounds“.
The terminal consists ofsix steel silos – 400 m³capacity each – with bulkloading facilities, whichhave a rate of 250 t/h persilo.
The silos are fed byrail tankers at a rate of2 x 100 t/h.
There are two rail tracks, one for silo feeding bytank wagons and one forstandby-by. Loaded orunloaded wagons can waiton the stand-by rail track.
In each of the six silosa separate dedusting filterfan is installed to avoidthe mixing of differenttypes of product duringfeeding and truck loadingprocess.

The BIMITA station isa good example for atypical efficient terminal.
It was built in a short timeand at reasonable costs. It contains all the modernelements and equipmentnecessary to handle bulkcement and other buildingmaterial compounds.
The loading procedure iscomputer controlledby modern weighingfacilities, which ensuressimple, dependable andfree-of-dust operations.Loading of trucks at the BIMITA terminal

High-capacity mixing plant in steel construction
HOLCIM AG,Lägerdorf, Germany
This high-capacity mixingplant in steel construction, with a throughput of150,000 t/a, was designedto produce special cementbinders and it has a stor-age capacity of 1360 m3
for raw materials andfinished products.
Eight steel compartmentsilos are integrated ina 47 m high mixing tower. The technology for meter-ing, mixing and reloadingthe cement materials islocated on 4 platformsbelow the silos.
In Lägerdorf IBAUHAMBURG installed theIB-M 8000 batch-typemixer, which has athroughput of 150 t/h.
Silo loading is done with8 pneumatic truckunloading stations, eachwith a loading capacityof 30-35 t/h.
Cement reloading is donewith an IBAU Simplexloader with 250 t/hcapacity and a travelingrange of 3.5 m.

SACIMA(SOCIÉTÉ ANONYMEDE CIMENT DEMAYOTTE)
The import terminal, aturnkey installation ofa bulk cement terminal inthe Port of Longoni, con-sists of 3 steel silos, eachwith 8.6 m diameter, 27 mheight and 1600 t cementcapacity. The terminal isdesigned for 50000 tannual throughput.Cement is received viaselfunloaders. Theterminal integrates onebulk loading system witha capacity of 60 t/hand a packing plant for2400 bags/h.
The IBAU supply alsoincluded a truck weigh-bridge, one petrol-fueledpower generator stationwith storage tank as wellas civil construction androad building.
RÜDERSDORFERZEMENT, Germany
The terminal for thestorage of different typesof cement with integratedmechanical mixer com-prises three steel silos, each with 480 m³ storagecapacity, two weighingsystems, an IBAU MixerIB-M 4500 for 80 t/hand a bulk loading systemfor 80-100 t/h.
The loading system canbe either fed from one ofthe silos or directly fromthe mixer.

Many cement companiesare extending theirrail delivery network todispatch cement overlonger distances by railinstead of doing soby truck, thus breakingaway from the past, when only raw materialsand aggregates weretransported by rail.
The switch-over to rail isa key element of thetoday’s bulk cementdistribution.
The new terminals inWalsall, Leeds, Tunsteadand Willesden FreightCentre provide a fasterand at the same timeenvironmentally friendlierdelivery.
