1551 originally had 8" x 12" End Beams. Measuring the lengthof the bolts the MSR&LHA determined that 1551 had 8" x 10"Ends Beams which it installed.
NOTESNOTESDrawings 2D printed from 3D CADD Model. Some lines
have not printed but the author has attempted to correctthe most oblivious.Drawings prepared from 5 years of measuring the originaland Climax Mfg. Co. drawings provide by John Lewis.
Right Side Elevation illustrates the wood lagging found bythe MSR&LHA when dismantling 1551. Whether that was Climax practice or that of the former owner Moore-KeppelCompany is unknown.
1551 shown with original Fire Door now on West VirginiaPulp & Paper Co. Shay No. 1 now in the B & O Museum atBaltimore, MD, where the measurements were recovered.1551 now has a Franklin No. 6 Butterfly Door. Drawings per Climax practice as modified by the MSR&LHA at the Cass Shop. D&GVRR modifications will be added as known. 1551 now mounts a Shay stack - Cass Lima Diamond Stack made by MSR&LHA not mounted.
The boiler illustrated (partially complete) is that of a typical Union Iron Works, Erie, PA boiler of the period. 1551 nowhas a Vancouver Iron Works boiler dimensionally identicalto the original but built to circa 1947 British Columbia standards and requirements for another 70 Ton Climaxalmost identical to CN 1551.

1551 shown with Climax throttle lever. D&GVRR installed a Shay throttle lever & quadrant as MSR&LHA had not finished fabricating the Climax throttle lever.
Babbit bearings installed in Crossbox on Axle #1 as F220 Crossbox had been bored out of alignment, and Axle #1spur gear bored off center approximately 1/8" and was rebored and centered with the line shaft increased in diameter just at that end to compensate (Not illustrated).
Durbin & Greenbrier Valley R.R. installed Waist Sheet onVancouver Iron Works Boiler which did not require theWaist Sheet (heavier courses?). Union Iron Works specified Waist Sheet.
DRAWINGS ARE A 2D PROJECTION OF A 3D CADD MODEL SO ALTHOUGH THE DIMENSIONS IN THE 3D CADD MODELARE CORRECT, THE PROJECTION TO A 2D MODEL MAY RESULT IN SLIGHT DIMENSIONAL ERRORS AS PARTS MAY NOT BE ALIGNED EXACTLY 90° TO THE PLANE ILLUSTRATED ALTHOUGH EVERY EFFORT WAS MADE TO ALIGN THETRUCKS AND FRAME TO THE SAME PLANE. DIMENSIONS KNOWN PER CLIMAX DOCUMENT DATED 4-22-21.

Frame Bolsters, Engine Frames (F405R & F406L), frame cross braces, and the Stirrups on the Connecting Rods were secured with tapered bolts - 1/16" taper per inch. To obviate the need formachining and exact fit, the cross frame braces were bedded ina thin bed of Babbit.
Hole in Cross Member illustrated in Section D - D is at locationfor Blowdown on Vancouver Iron Works Boiler. Union Iron Works blowdown centered.
