COURSES TAUGHT (Duke University) EGR 24 INTRODUCTION TO ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING Freshman-level course designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of environmental engineering. EGR 108 PROFESSIONAL ETHICS Capstone course in the Program in Science, Technology and Human Values. Professional ethics, including engineering, legal, business, and medical ethics. EGR 150 ENGINEERING COMMUNICATIONS Cover all aspects of communication including public speaking, technical writing, visual representation, and computer graphics. EGR 300 TEACHING ENGINEERING Designed for the senior graduate student planning a career in academia. Teaching theory and techniques, funding, research, tenure and getting (and losing) a job in a university. CE 124 ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING This is the standard senior-level course in environmental engineering, covering water supply,

wastewater treatment, air pollution, solid and hazardous waste, and noise. CE 127 ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION This course is for non-engineering students, but covers many of the topics commonly found in an environmental engineering course (see CE 124 above). No prerequisites. CE 228 SLUDGE TREATMENT AND DISPOSAL A graduate-level course designed for students undertaking research in sludge technology and science. CE 243 PHYSICO-CHEMICAL UNIT OPERATIONS Starting at the fundamental level, operations such as settling, filtration, flocculation, and adsorption are covered. Graduate level course. CE 246 DESIGN OF WATER AND WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS Graduate-level core course for engineers planning careers in consulting engineering. The course includes a preparation of an engineering design report. CE 247 AIR POLLUTION CONTROL Suitable for both undergraduate and graduate students, this course covers the major aspects of air pollution from an engineering perspective. CE 248 SOLID WASTE ENGINEERING This course covers the entire spectrum of solid waste engineering, from the estimation of refuse production to final disposal. Students write weekly design reports.
