An UNDP/GEF East African Cross borders Biodiversity Project on “Reducing the Rate of
Biodiversity loss at selected cross-border Sites in East Africa” A successful project that has
articulated local Development and community needs to Global priorities on Biodiversity
Conservation
Main duties:
• Overall responsibility for project management, including financial control, ordering, clearing and
distribution of project equipment, supervision of project staff and ensuring proper use of project
resources.
• Support to project consultants, both national and international, in administrative procedures and
technical issues.
• Travelled extensively in the East African Region – Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
• Assisting project contracted institutions in the maintenance of project imprest accounts and
general financial disbursement and control procedures.
• Organizing national workshops and other fora to promote coordination for biodiversity protection
as well as preparation and monitoring of study-tours and fellowships both within the country and in
the East African region.
• Coordinating and implementing the national components of the project, including technical
inputs to Natural Resource Management agencies, supporting development of participatory
forest management plans, natural resources inventories, tree planting, collaborative Forest
management, and cross border coordination.
• Linking with the regional components and the two national components of Kenya and Uganda
• Assisted in building capacity of NGOs and CBOs at project sites including Tanzania
Association of Foresters, Income generating NGO e.g. KAKUTE, Arusha Green Parks, Bee
keepers Associations in Northern Tanzania
• Developed proposals for UNDP/GEF small Grants projects for an Energy project
• Support to increasing awareness of districts on sustainable forest management and to
communities through development of participatory forest management plans as well as

“Institutional Support for the Protection of East African Biodiversity” funded by GEF and
executed by FAO.
This was a Biodiversity Capacity building Project working with over Twenty Two Natural Resource management
institutions in the East Africa region. In Tanzania institutions included; Forest and Beekeeping Division,
Commission of Natural Resources Zanzibar, University of Dar es Salaam ( including Library, Botany Zoology and
Institute of Resource assessment), National Environment Management Authority, Wildlife Conservation Society,
Pasiansi Wildlife Training centre and focal districts within Coast, Lindi and Rufiji regions.
• Procurement and distribution of project equipment; ensuring that such equipment is used in accordance with
FAO rules and regulations.
• Assisting in the preparation and monitoring of workshops, study-tours and fellowships from Tanzania and in
providing support to visiting project study-tours to Tanzania.
• Support to project consultants, both national and international, in both administrative procedures and technical
assistance.
