1 Curriculum Vitae Kimberly Ann Horn PART 1: CURRENT EMPLOYMENT Associate Vice President, Clinical Research Collaboratives Professor, Department of Population Health Sciences Research Professor, Virginia Tech-Carilion Research Institute Virginia Tech 2 Riverside Drive, Roanoke, VA 24016 Office phone: 540-526-2184 PART 2: EDUCATION University of North Carolina, Charlotte, NC Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology (BA), May 1985 West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW), December 1993 West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV Doctorate in Educational Psychology (EdD), December 1997 Profile My professional portfolio spans schools of medicine and public health at major research I universities. These institutions, each affording me unique experiences, include West Virginia University, a public land grant institution focused on serving the people of Appalachia and The George Washington University, a private university one mile from the White House. Effective March, 2018, I have the opportunity to carry forward these experiences as I begin a new position at Virginia Tech and Virginia Tech-Carilion Research Institute in the newly established position of Associate Vice President of Clinical Research Collaboratives. As leader and scientist I have served in the ranks of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor with tenure, including being among the first class and first woman at WVU awarded a Robert C. Byrd named professorship. I have held positions of Associate Dean of Research, Associate Cancer Center Director, Center Director, and Scientific Program Leader, many being founding positions. Progression through a research leadership trajectory has rendered critical preparatory experience for successfully driving change in culture, capacity, funding, policy, and operations within complex academic health systems and in regions with the significant health disparities. I stay grounded in and passionate about research, as I have served as Principle Investigator on 50+ funded research projects, including over 16 years of continuous federal funding resulting in innovations that helped thousands of teens and young adults around the world stop smoking cigarettes. My emerging novel areas of work include opioid prevention, and e-cigarettes and harm reduction. Furthering my contribution to the advancement of science, I also currently serve as study section chair of NIH CIHB. Central to my work as both scientist and leader is the translation of research to impact the urgent health matters of communities, families, and individuals; impact is the bottom line, and best achieved through diverse and innovative partnerships. Along my journey, I have had the privilege of mentoring dozens of students, and of working alongside hundreds of faculty, staff, clinicians, and community members, all enriching my life in immeasurable ways. I stay on this journey because I believe that research and converging partnerships can revolutionize health.
