7. Involvement in Institute Development Report Preparation for UGC – NAAC

• Prepared Five Internal Quality Annual Reports (IQAR) of the Gandhigram Rural Institute for Five years, for submission to the National Association for Assessment and Accreditation(NAAC), Bangalore for the post Accreditation period from 2002 to 2007.

• Assisted the authorities of the Institute in the preparation and compilation of performance report for the period from 1976 to 2009, for presentation before the UGC Review Committee on Deemed Universities held on September 19, 2009.(with Dr.N.D.Mani, Professor, Dept. of Rural Development)

Placement of Students

• Facilitated the placement of over 1000 students – Diploma, Bachelor’s, Master’s, Pre-doctoral and doctoral students of Gandhigram Rural Institute during the period from 1998 to 2005 in the capacity of Director, Employment Bureau, GRI. Placement was secured in different institutions such as government departments/projects, NGOs, donor agencies, corporate projects, banks, computer/software agencies and schools, colleges and universities.

Administrative Support

• Assisted the Vice Chancellor of GRI, during the year 2005-06, as the Officer on Special Duty(OSD), in academic, research and rural extension activities of the Institute.

• Was Resident Warden for the under graduate students of GRI for FIVE years from 1983-1988.

c. Community Service in Villages � Persons with Disabilities

• About 200 persons with disabilities in the service villages of GRI enabled to get National (Disability) Identity Cards from the District Collectorate.

• About 200 persons with disabilities of various types facilitated to get benefits of Govt. welfare programmes in special welfare camps.

• 25 mentally challenged persons enabled to get a monthly pension of Rs.500/- each from District Disability Rehabilitation Office.

• 12 persons with disabilities facilitated to get bank loan of Rs.30,000 each, under SGSY scheme, Govt. of India, with a subsidy of Rs.7500/- each.

• Three students helped to get a Tri- wheel Scooter, (Ortho) from District Collector and Two CD players from NIVH, and NIEPMD, Chennai (for visually impaired students).

• Productive assets given to persons with disabilities in service villages, sponsored by KVK, of GRI. (e.g.,goat, sewing machines)

� The Paliya Tribe

• Has been working with the Paliya Tribe on the Lower Palani Hills (Kodaikanal region) of Tamil Nadu.

• Documented and photographed the profile of families of paliya tribe in three settlements of three panchayats namely Adalur, Kamanur and Kumbaraiyur in Kodaikanal and Athoor blocks. Submitted the profile to the Dindigul District Administration for free housing.

• Has been supporting NGOs working among the Paliya tribe, through Project planning, Reporting and documentation and monitoring of their education related activities.

� The Aged

• Has surveyed the plight of the aged – both men and women, in the select service villages of Gandhigram Rural Institute.

• Enabled them to apply for Old age Pension from the district revenue authorities.

• Has formed Self Help Groups among the elderly, exclusively among men and women.
