Biochemistry BIODATA

I have been an academic for almost three decades and have dedicated myself to the sustainable development of aquaculture for small to medium scale farmers locally and in developing countries. Since 1986 I have published more than 50 papers in peer reviewed journals in the area fish nutrition and feeding management. Currently publications have a total of 1566 citations with a H-index of 22 (as at July 2017; Google Scholar) and I have presented more than 30 papers at local and international conferences in the same field. In order to support my research activities, I have secured more than RM3.0 million since 1990 from USM, National Funding Agencies and an International Agency. I have graduated 11 PhD and 13 MSc students from 5 different countries. The dissemination outcomes from the research throughout my academic career can also be seen from the invitations to give keynote speeches at local and international conferences; the most recent was on the Sustainable Development of Aquaculture in ASEAN and consultancies. Over the years i have trained more than 700 potential fish farmers.

I am a keen advocate for the sustainable development of higher education and in recent years have spearheaded the development of two 10-Year Strategic Plans for Postgraduate Education in USM (2010) and Internationalization in USIM (2013). My involvement as the Organizing Chairman of the World Islamic Countries Universities Summit (WICULS 2015) recently, is testimony of my aspiration to afford change in the Higher Education landscape particularly in the Muslim world.
