Over the last fifteen years I have worked with many women’s and feminist groups in central and east Europe and Central Asia on questions of po- litical participation and women’s rights. I have also conducted extensive work on the impacts of political and economic restructuring on the process of democratization, citizens’ participation and decentralization in central and east Europe. I am also the director of Local Democracy Partnership Program (LDP). Sev- eral international/comparative research projects in the areas of gender studies, participatory politics, Third Sector, and public administration have been conducted by LDP. This work has been sponsored by major foundations and governmental agencies and attracted over $ 9 million in funding. Several projects that specifically focus on women’s political subjecthood have been and are currently conducted in Belarus, Ukraine, Poland as well as Georgia, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan. RESEARCH INTERESTS

Broadly defined my research and teaching concentrates on women’s agency, political activism, grassrootsmobilization, and the construction of women’s political spaces. Over the last fifteen years I have workedwith many women’s and feminist groups in central and east Europe and Central Asia on questions of po-litical participation and women’s rights. I have also conducted extensive work on the impacts of politicaland economic restructuring on the process of democratization, citizens’ participation and decentralizationin central and east Europe. I am also the director of Local Democracy Partnership Program (LDP). Sev-eral international/comparative research projects in the areas of gender studies, participatory politics, ThirdSector, and public administration have been conducted by LDP. This work has been sponsored by majorfoundations and governmental agencies and attracted over $ 9 million in funding. Several projects thatspecifically focus on women’s political subjecthood have been and are currently conducted in Belarus,Ukraine, Poland as well as Georgia, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan.
