At the age of 39, I started as postdoctoral researcher for 5 years. Again, an uncommon construal of this position, because I held several professional positions next to several responsibilities uncommon for Postdocs. Rather than devoting 80% of my PostDoc time to research I acquired experience in teaching, management, acquisition, PhD supervision and valorization. 2007 MaGW Open Competition. (NWO) €200.000 The role of organizers in demonstrations (with Bert Klandermans and Marije Boekkooi), 2007-2011.

My research interests focus on protest participation. All my research projects converge on the linkage between socio-political structures and how peoples’ perceptions and interpretations thereof affect their political behavior. Be it the large comparative study on participation in demonstrations granted by the ESF/NWO, mobilization via social media, more radical forms of protest envisioned by young Dutch Moroccans or Dutch youngsters or the evolution of protest in evolving neighborhoods granted by the KNAW, the individual and its political behavior always figure centre stage. I designed and coordinated those studies and I am coordinator of the large comparative study of street demonstrations (together with Stefaan Walgrave & Bert Klandermans) and Project leader of the VINEX/KNAW project. This coordination evolves fruitful, both projects are well-versed and very interesting data are collected.
