Reid is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Michigan State University. Over the past 25 years, he has held a variety of technical research positions and academic appointments in the USA and Australia. From 1987-1997 he worked as a Research Assistant with Prof. Richard Simpson in the Joint Protein Sequencing Laboratory at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in Melbourne, Australia, while studying part time to obtain an Associate Diploma in Applied Science. He then obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Science in 1997 and a PhD in Chemistry in 2000 from the University of Melbourne, under the joint supervision of Prof. Richard O’Hair and Prof. Simpson. From 2000-2002, he carried out post-doctoral research with Prof. Scott McLuckey at Purdue University, prior to establishing his independent research career as an Assistant Member at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research. He then moved to Michigan State in 2004 as an Assistant Professor, where he was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor with tenure in 2009. Research in the Reid laboratory at Michigan State is broadly focused on (i) the development of novel chemical, bio-analytical and mass spectrometry based methods and instrumentation for proteome and lipidome analysis, and (ii) the application of these strategies to identify biomarkers for the onset and progression of disease. To date, this work has resulted in 125 peer reviewed publications (50 as an independent researcher), presentations at 65 national and international conferences, 40 invited seminars and 3 patents. Funding to pursue this research has been received from a variety of state and federal agencies, including the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Australian Research Council, the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, and several industry groups. Gavin is currently a member of the editorial advisory boards of the Journal of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry and the European Journal of Mass Spectrometry. He has served as an ad hoc study section panel member to several national and international funding agencies, and is a regular reviewer for multiple analytical chemistry, protein chemistry and mass spectrometry journals. Gavin E. Reid is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Michigan State University. Over the past 25 years, he has held a variety of technical research positions and academic appointments in the USA and Australia. From 1987-1997 he worked as a Research Assistant with Prof. Richard Simpson in the Joint Protein Sequencing Laboratory at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in Melbourne, Australia, while studying part time to obtain an Associate Diploma in Applied Science. He then obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Science in 1997 and a PhD in Chemistry in 2000 from the University of Melbourne, under the joint supervision of Prof. Richard O’Hair and Prof. Simpson. From 2000-2002, he carried out post-doctoral research with Prof. Scott McLuckey at Purdue University, prior to establishing his independent research career as an Assistant Member at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research. He then moved to Michigan State in 2004 as an Assistant Professor, where he was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor with tenure in 2009.

Research in the Reid laboratory at Michigan State is broadly focused on (i) the development of novel chemical, bio-analytical and mass spectrometry based methods and instrumentation for proteome and lipidome analysis, and (ii) the application of these strategies to identify biomarkers for the onset and progression of disease. To date, this work has resulted in 125 peer reviewed publications (50 as an independent researcher), presentations at 65 national and international conferences, 40 invited seminars and 3 patents. Funding to pursue this research has been received from a variety of state and federal agencies, including the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Australian Research Council, the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, and several industry groups.
