As Chief of the Marriage and Family Statistics Branch, responsible for the Census Bureau's technical planning and

developmental work pertaining to the collection, editing, compilation, analysis, and publication of statistics on

households, household formation and dissolution, family composition and change, children, marital status, marriage, and

dissolution of marriage for the Decennial Census of the Population, the Current Population Survey (CPS), and the Survey

of Income and Program Participation (SIPP).

Led innovations in the collection, analysis, and reporting of Census Bureau data that include:

* Introduced the concept and measurement of “unmarried partner” to identify both same-sex and opposite-sex

couples (Decennial Census, CPS, SIPP)

* Developed "child well-being" topical module (SIPP)

* Developed new "longitudinal" household definition (SIPP)

* Initiated identification of "unmarried partners" (Decennial Census, CPS, SIPP)

* Initiated uniquely detailed identification of all family and non-family relationships among household

members (SIPP, topical module)

* Developed first national socioeconomic longitudinal analyses of household formation and dissolution (SIPP)

* Directed most detailed analysis for U.S. to date of children's family living arrangements (SIPP)

* Prepared the Bureau's first statistical chartbook on children (Decennial Census)

* Wrote monograph that was the first national study of the family and economic changes experienced by children

between the Great Depression and the1980s (1940-1988, Decennial Censuses, CPS)

* Bureau representative to Planning Committee, Data Collection Committee, and Social Reporting Committee of

the Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family Statistics

* Led development and marketing of ten-year panel study, the Survey of Program Dynamics (SPD), to assess
