Key responsibilities:
Discipline coordinator – Both phase 1 and phase 2 Public health.
Coordinator of the Public Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics block for Phase 1.
Delivery of problem based curriculum to Phase 1 and 2 MBBS students using various pedagogical methods like didactic lectures, seminars, group discussions and presentations, role plays, in-course assignments and field work related to the subject. Administrative responsibilities include coordinating with my colleagues for course delivery, invigilating theory examinations and OSCEs, assessing in-course assignments.

ACADEMIC
Currently teaching Phase 1 and phase 2 MBBS students the concepts in epidemiology, public
health and biostatistics. Use of lectures, seminars, small group discussions, computer based
sessions, debates, field work based activities, group presentations and in-course assignments.

For Undergraduate students
Use of information technology
1. Conducted online tests for assessment of year 3 and 4 MBBS students.
2. Development of discussion forum and blog for students of year 1 and year 4 MBBS.
3. Training students in the use of Epi info software and Statistical Package for Social
Sciences for collection of data and analysis.
Strategies in medical education
1. Performed a detailed analysis for balancing out the weightage of questions in setting of
question papers in Community Medicine.
2. Ongoing training for students to utilize qualitative methods for conducting research.
Curriculum development
1. Introduced and implemented computer assisted learning for Phase 1 medical students
2. Modified the cases used by Newcastle University for the Stage 1 MBBS students to make
it relevant for the Malaysian context.
3. Developed EMIs for Sociology and medical ethics
4. Modified the seminars on “The Family” and “Family, health and Illness” by including
information from the Malaysian statistics and family details.
For Faculty members
Resource person for the workshop entitled “Statistics at Square One” which is currently
being conducted for faculty members of the Faculty of Medicine.

PRESENTATIONS AND CONFERENCES ATTENDED:
Presented a paper on “ A community based study to assess the morbidity profile and health
seeking behaviour of the elderly in the field practice area of an Urban health training centre
in Mumbai, India” at the 7th Malaysian Conference on Healthy Ageing held between the 2nd
and 5th of April 2014.
Presented an e-poster on “The Family Study: Perceptions of the mothers-to-be” at the 10th
Asia Pacific Medical Education Conference organized at the National University of
Singapore between the 16th and 20th of January 2013.
Participated in a workshop on “Medical Epidemiology” organized by the Clinical Research
Center, Penang in May 2011.
Organized and participated in a workshop on “Building Partnership for Public Health
Research in Kedah state” at AIMST University on 22nd January 2009 involving personnel
from Public health departments of the Ministry of health and faculty members from the
School of Medicine, AIMST University, Malaysia.
Presented the analysis of the workshop proceedings in the Faculty of Medicine Academic
Programme on 20th February 2009.
Made a presentation on “Analysis of the weightage of questions in mechanics of
question paper setting” in the Faculty of Medicine Academic Programme held on 19th
November 2009.
Member of the Organizing Committee at the 2nd HPSN Malaysia workshop organized by
School of Medicine jointly with Cybron Technology Sdn. Bhd. and Malaysian Medical
Association at AIMST University from 20th – 22nd November 2008.

Conducted the introductory session on “Data display and summary“ for the training
workshop on “Statistics at Square One” organized for the faculty members of the School
of Medicine. This was supplemented by hands on training session for the participants with
the use of statistical package for social sciences software.
Made a poster presentation on “Teaching racial understanding to medical students”
at the 16th National Public Health Colloquium organized by the Department of Community
Health, UKMMC Malaysia at Berjaya Times Square Hotel in Kuala Lumpur on the 24th and
25th of November 2009.
CURRENT RESEARCH PROJECTS:
Ongoing research on “Evaluation of prenatal screening on the diagnosis of
Gestational Diabetes mellitus and pregnancy outcomes in women attending Klinik
Kesihatan, Merbok, Kedah, Malaysia” in collaboration with the public health department.
Data analysis is in progress.
Co investigator of the research project entitled “Audit of the socio demographic and
clinical profile of newly diagnosed cases of tuberculosis in Kedah state during 2008”
in collaboration with the State Tuberculosis Office under the Public health department of
Malaysia. Data collection is in progress.
Completed a qualitative research in collaboration with the department of Pharmacology on
“Understanding the role of traditional healers in disease management and
maintenance of health” by conducting in depth interviews with traditional healers in
various villages in the state of Kedah.
