Luís Filipe Pinheiro de Castro

Overview

Luis Castro received the (�ve years) Diploma (�Licenciatura�) Degree from the University of Aveiro, Portu-gal, in 1991, the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Applied Mathematics and Mathematics from IST, TechnicalUniversity of Lisbon, in 1994 and 1998, respectively. In 2004, he received the Habilitation (�Agregação�)Degree from University of Aveiro.

From 1998 to 2000 he was in the Directive Council of Department of Mathematics of University of Aveiro;from 2000 to 2002 he was Vice-President of the Directive Board of the Centre Delegation of the PortugueseMathematical Society; from 2001 to 2003 he was President of the Scienti�c-Pedagogic Council of Departmentof Mathematics of University of Aveiro; from 2001 to 2003 he was Coordinator of the Scienti�c Committeeof Department of Mathematics of University of Aveiro; from January 2006 to December 2009, he was theScienti�c Coordinator of the Research Unit Mathematics and Applications, which had 55 Ph.D. membersand 82 elements in total.

He is currently the Scienti�c Coordinator/Director of CIDMA - Center for Research and Development inMathematics and Applications � which is one of the largest research centers of Mathematics in Portugal(recognized by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology) and has 91 Ph.D. Members, 33Ph.D. Students and 24 Collaborators, in a total of 148 elements; see http://cidma.mat.ua.pt/ .

He has more than 15 years of teaching experience in Mathematics at B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels (beingalways in the group of Professors of Aveiro University Maths Department with better evaluation from thestudents in the University o�cial evaluation system).

His current research interests include several topics in the areas of Functional Analysis, Integral and Dif-ferential Equations, Operator Theory and Mathematical-Physics. In the last ten years he contributed withseveral publications concerning operator relations between di�erent types of operator classes, Fredholm the-ory of classes of singular integral and pseudo-di�erential operators, factorization theory of matrix-valuedfunctions and operators (including Wiener-Hopf factorization and associated Riemann-Hilbert problems),wave di�raction problems and electromagnetic theory from a mathematical viewpoint, analysis of boundaryvalue problems in di�erent domains within Sobolev type spaces, solvability of integral equations of di�er-ent types, qualitative theory of di�erential equations, approximate solutions for di�erential and integralequations, Tikhonov regularization, and theory of reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces and its applications.

He has contributed with over 100 peer-reviewed published papers, and gave more than 100 talks at researchseminars and international conferences or workshops. He supervised 5 M.Sc. students, 5 Ph.D. students andserved as adviser for 5 post-docs. His current h-index is 11, the i10-index is 17 and his research papersreceived 596 citations until now (of which 332 were in the last �ve years) � data taken from Google Scholar.Since 2009 he has been Full Professor of Mathematics at University of Aveiro, Portugal.
