• The emphasis of reading class goes
beyond merely comprehension, speed,
and fluency in reading. We are laying
a foundation for literary analysis
and critical thinking, which are very
important skills in preparing for high
school.
III. Math – Saxon, (4TH EDITION)This curriculum is designed to develop and
strengthen math skills for basic real
world type problems. Problems in every
lesson help develop skills to communicate
math elements to others. Every lesson
has problems that serve as review and
reinforcement of previous lessons with
the intent of gaining mastery of the math
concepts over the course of the year.
• Students will be learning to work with:
• Number and Operations: numeration,
basic operations, properties of
numbers and operations,estimation
• Algebra: ratio and proportional
reasoning, patterns, relations,
functions, variables, expressions,
equations, inequalities
• Geometry: describe basic terms,
describe properties and relationships
of lines, angles and polygons,
use Pythagorean theorem, Three-
dimensional figures, coordinate
geometry
• Measurement: measuring physical
attributes, systems of measurement,
solving measurement problems,
solving problems of similarity,
use appropriate measurement
instruments
• Data Analysis and Probability: data
collection and representation, data
set characteristics, probability types
and terms
IV. LANGUAGE – A Beka, Grammar & Composition 1• Capitalization and punctuation review.
• Parts of speech with emphasis on clauses
and phrases.
• Paragraph development.
• Weekly spelling and vocabulary lessons
and tests.
• In teaching composition, we emphasize
developing the student’s ability to apply
their knowledge of grammar, sentence
structure and paragraph development
to their own writing. They must learn
to write in an intelligent and orderly
manner. Students will be able to apply
the steps of the writing process and
learn to evaluate and edit what they
have written. By the end of 7th grade,
students will have experience in writing
character sketches, book reports,
fiction and nonfiction narratives,
outlines, various essays, and a research
paper.
V. History – Bob Jones Press, WORLD Studies, Third Edition• Students will begin with a brief review
of ancient history from Creation to
the coming of Christ and progress in
a chronological journey around the
world studying empires, cultures,
Christianity and world religions. Study
will conclude with an examination of
the trends of the 21st century.
• Students will build upon the study of
ancient civilizations with more focus on
the foundation of modern civilizations
and the impact of the earlier cultures.
CURRICULUM
SEVENTH GRADE CURRICULUM & GOALS
Study will begin with the emergence of towns after the Dark Ages
and continue through the 20th century. These lessons present a
historical, geographical and thematic survey of the world and
it’s people.
VI. Science – BOB JONES, Earth Science / Life Science (4TH EDITION )• Emphasis on scientific method, especially in completion of a science
fair project.
• The goal of studying earth science is to proclaim God’s handiwork
through the study of the physical universe. Affirming the young
earth creation view of the Earth’s history and rejecting the
uniformitarian/evolutionary models pervading our culture, the
material presents a testimony of God’s judgment and plan for
redemption through the study of scientific philosophy and models,
meteorology, geology, and oceanography/hydrology.
• Life science offers insight into Creation by investigating fields
such as botany, anatomy, zoology, microbiology, and ecology with
the goal of discovering the thoughts of the Creator through the
ingenious structure and orderly function of His creation.
