• Students with chronic unexcused absences will be required to attend Saturday School – no county transportation is provided.

• Excuse notes should be sent in the day student returns to school and should include ID#; student’s first and last name; date of absence; reason for absence; and parent signature. E-mailed notes cannot be excepted.

• Notes sent six days or longer after the absence will not be excused.

• Please DO NOT plan appointments or trips during testing weeks. See page 8 of the CCSD handbook and discipline code.

Year Long: Vocabulary Development, Active Reading Strategies, Literary Response

January through March: Author’s Style and Character Analysis

• Identify and understand author’s use of satire, irony, and figurative language in literary text.

March through May: Poetry and Georgia Authors

• Identify and understand the purpose, elements, and themes of different poetic forms.
