Instructional Implications for your 3rd Grader~ • Comprehensive Literacy through a Workshop Model (whole class/small group/individual instruction, support, and practice opportunities) • assessments that identify what students are ready to learn next through whole class, small group, individual, and Computer Adaptive Testing (CAT) • increased technology skill expectations • integration of Social Studies and Science • homework shifts to reflect student developmental needs (from below grade level, on grade level, and above grade level) Enrichment: Twin Lakes has been designated as a fine arts/fitness focus school. We will provide your student with an integrated curriculum, including enrichment activities that blend with our units of study. Class Meetings: To help students gain skill in making choices and problem solving, we hold class meetings. Our ultimate goal is to “empower” students to assume control and responsibility for their behavior, and to understand expectations and logical consequences. Finally, we want students to take pride in their efforts and accomplishments. Grading: Daily practice and ongoing assessments will be monitored and scored to determine student progress and guide instructional decisions. Teacher feedback and student self-reflection will be a critical component. There are three official grading periods at the end of each trimester. Parents will be notified if your child is not meeting standards midway through trimesters with a progress notice, in accordance with district policy. Homework: Assignments are sent home on Friday and should be returned the following Friday. Please encourage your child to read the homework coversheet/menu and plan out their week accordingly. My goal is that the menu also helps to fill gaps, support grade level content, &/or accelerate learning.
