Pleased to meet you, Neighbor

As a way to better connect with one another, we are in the process of launching Worship Neighborhoods. Since we tend to sit in the same general area each weekend for worship, why not build on that community? On July 20 and 21, we shared a potluck meal together, sitting with those in our Worship Neighborhoods … some people were new to us, others have been longtime friends. It was a relaxed time of fellowship.

Each neighborhood will have a leader, prayer partner, and an Elder or Deacon. To help the people in these leadership roles be able to put faces with names better, we would like everyone (if you haven’t already) send a picture of themselves and their families to [email protected]; just a simple one taken with your phone will do. These pictures will be added to our church software program called On Realm, which can only be accessed by staff and trusted members in leadership at Family in Christ.

The “Bin” Schedule

Collection bins are available at the East and West entrances as an opportunity to help with ongoing ministries. Here’s the current rotation:

Any Weekend: Jesus on Colfax, serves those who are living in motels on E. Colfax. Bring McDonald’s, Panda Express and grocery gift cards and / or cash to the mini-bin located at the Outreach Center in the Lobby.

Any weekend: Refuge Laundry Kits, quarters, laundry pods, dryer sheets. Drop off at the PEAK information desk or set up a collection time with Kelly Vath: [email protected]. 1st weekend: Growing Home, serves homeless families or those at risk of becoming homeless. Bring non-perishable food items, diapers, etc. to be distributed through their food pantry. It’s generally our Communion weekend, so let that be your monthly reminder to bring food for others, as we receive God’s special nourishment.

2nd weekend: Breaking Free, sponsored by our Youth, addresses the needs of those living on the streets. Bring new socks for men, individually packaged snacks, winter gloves, hats, disposable water bottles, deodorant, bungee cords.

3rd weekend: The Refuge, a Broomfield ministry that serves those struggling economically, including single moms and homeless individuals. Bring tissues, toiletries, baby supplies (diapers/wipes/food, formula), general (soap/shampoo) and feminine hygiene products, laundry detergent, dish soap.

4th weekend (thru Thanksgiving): Operation Christmas Child, plastic shoe boxes, items to fill them (display at west end has suggestions; no candy, toothpaste, or liquids).

Storage space is limited at our church; thank you for adhering to this schedule

AND for your ongoing generosity.

Operation Christmas Child

Sunday, August 4 is the official kick-off for this ministry. Help spread the love of Jesus this Christmas to a child in a third-world country by bringing in items to fill shoe boxes.

Drop off bins will be available the 4th Sunday of each month from August to Thanksgiving and every day in a box in the children's wing. A list of items needed will be at the information booth and a display box in the children's wing. Please NO candy, toothpaste or liquids. Last year we filled about 700 boxes! Also, please continue to bring in plastic shoe boxes. Questions? Call Sheila (303-465-3634) or Diane (720-514-1034).

Saturdays at

5:00 pm

Kids Rock is a children's program that meets each Saturday night. The children experience exciting Bible stories, music, memory verses and games.

Summer Sundays | 10:00 am | W.O.W. Instead of a more traditional Sunday school class, W.O.W. teaches Bible messages in a new and action-driven way in a group setting. WOW will be held in two settings: Preschool kids and a group classroom of 1st thru 5th grades.

Returns on Wednesdays in September! Boys (Cadets) and girls (GEMS), 1st through 5th grade, have the chance to earn badges, participate in community outreach, and grow in their faith through music, games, crafts and projects. For children younger than 1st grade, childcare will be provided for parents who are onsite participating in Family in Christ programs.

Yearly dues for Cadets and GEMS are $40 / child. Dues collected assist in covering the program costs, which includes a shirt, badge book, badges, craft supplies, curriculum and weekly materials. Each program receives additional funding from the Family in Christ budget and through yearly fundraisers.

Doing Life Together

Life Group Ministry Morgan Kellum

Last month I shared about our family's commitment to our Wednesday Night Sweet Treats. To recap, we recommitted to intentionally setting aside one evening a week to open up our backyard (and our schedules) to friends and neighbors with the purpose of chatting, connecting and eating delicious desserts. Not a bad way to spend an evening. This summer, we enjoyed slurping root beer floats, getting to know our new neighbors across the fence, snacking on scrumptious cheesecake, and helping a new family across the street with the challenges of registering for middle school. Most certainly time well spent.

This experience has reinforced to me that our society, with all its social media and digital platforms for interaction, is still hungry for actual face-to-face and heart-to-heart connection. There is nothing that truly compares with authentic connections made across the table (the sweet treat is optional, but in my opinion, integral!). And that goes for you, too. How are you connecting with people here at FIC and in your neighborhood? Do you have a tribe of people you spend time with AND is there room to add a few more folks who need relationships? Are you hungry for connection and needing to know where to start? If you have answered "Yes" to any of these questions, I want to talk to you! Contact me at [email protected] and let's start some new face-to-face & heart-to-heart meetings...maybe over a chocolate sundae!
