WELCOME GUESTSThank you so much for visiting our Raymond Campus! Our desire is to make your first experience a warm one. Please help yourself to a complimentary coffee and an assortment of baked goods in our Café. Rest peacefully knowing your children will be taken care of and taught by a team of well-trained individuals who make safety a top priority. You’ll also find relevant messages that are rooted in sound biblical theology, and a contemporary worship service which we believe will greatly bless your heart.

THE CAFÉThe Café is open before and after services on Sunday mornings. You are welcome to enjoy your coffee during the service. The Café will close 15 minutes into the service in order to eliminate any distraction to those worshipping. It will re-open for fellowship at the end of the service.

SERMON NOTES: WEEK 16, JUNE 18, 20172 Timothy 4:16-18 STAND BY MERev. Dr. Bruce Boria

QUESTION: HOW DOES PAUL VIEW HIS PREDICAMENT?

2 Timothy 4:16–18 (NIV84) — 16 At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them. 17 But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth. 18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

I AM ___________________

2 Timothy 4:16, At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them.

But we know from Tacitus, Pliny and other contemporary writers the kind of allegations which were being made against Christians at that time. They were supposed to be guilty of horrid crimes against the state and against civilized society. They were accused of ‘atheism’ (because they eschewed idolatry and emperor-worship), of cannibalism (because they spoke of eating Christ’s body), and even of a general ‘hatred of the human race’ (because of their supposed disloyalty to Caesar and perhaps because they had renounced the popular pleasures of sin). It may be that some of these charges were being levelled against Paul.1

I AM ________ ALONE

2 Timothy 4:17 But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth.

2 Corinthians 12:9–10, 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Acts 26:14–18, 14 . . . I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, ‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? . . . 15 “Then I asked, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ “ ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,’ the Lord replied. 16 ‘Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen of me and what I will show you. 17 I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them 18 to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’

NOTES

SERMON NOTES (continued)

I WILL ___________________ BE ALONE

2 Timothy 4:18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

2 Timothy 4:6–8, 6 For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

1 Peter 5:4, 4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.

James 1:12, 12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
