DESCRIPTION

More than 52 million Americans are living with chronic lung disease such as asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis and pulmonary fibrosis. Not only are these conditions prevalent,

resulting in an estimated 149,200 deaths in 2015, and morbid, the care results in considerable healthcare utilization and cost. The economic cost of COPD alone was $36 billion in 2014. The care for patients with chronic lung disease has become increasingly complex given the overlay with comorbid disease and advancements in diagnostic modalities and therapeutic options. In 2015 alone, 8 new drugs were approved by the FDA for the management of chronic pulmonary diseases ranging from COPD and asthma to CF, lung cancer and pulmonary arterial hypertension.

There is considerable need for greater education among caregivers to aid in the diagnosis and management of lung disease and critical illness. Based on these needs and efforts, the Johns Hopkins Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine presents Current Practices and Future Directions in Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine: The 14th Year. This review course has been specifically designed to review the most recent innovations in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine for the practicing physician – including sessions in Diffuse Parenchymal Lung Diseases, Obstructive Lung Diseases, Pulmonary Vascular Disease, Sleep, Lung Cancer, Interventional Pulmonology Hands-On, Critical Care – the Role of Oxygen, Critical Care Updates, Cystic Fibrosis and Pulmonary Infections, and Lung Transplantation and Radiology Review.

WHO SHOULD ATTENDThis activity is intended for pulmonary, sleep and critical care medicine physicians and trainees, internal medicine physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.

OBJECTIVESAfter attending this activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to:• Describe new diagnostic and therapeutic advances in pulmonary disease.• Identify new diagnostic and therapeutic advances in critical care medicine.• Evaluate and manage patients with significant lung disease.• Describe new diagnostic modalities and treatments in sleep medicine.

Accreditation Statement The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation Statement The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 22.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
