Movie Spotlight

By: Ifrah Khalif & Iman Cabdi & Nasra Abdi

Captain Philips

Release Date: October 11, 2013

Rated: PG13

Running Time: 1 hr 34 min

Captain Philips is a 2013 American action thriller directed by Paul Greengrass. This movie stars Barkad Abdi. Barkad Abdi moved from Somalia to Yemen at age 7 with his family because there was a war in Somalia. Then, he moved to Minneapolis/ St. Paul, where he learned English. Now Barkad Abdi is 27 is living in Hollywood and staring in the film.

The main part of the story is the Somali pirates are trying to take over an American cargo ship and takes its crew hostage. I watched this movie and I am honest that this movie is one of the best because most of the actors are Somali and I am Somali. I just found out that this is a really true story that happened in 2009.
