We then travel to the beautiful Garden of Wildwood hosted by Wayne & Sue who have been developing the garden since 1980 when they bought 10 hectares (25 acres) of land at Bilpin in Sydney’s Blue Mountains. Most of the sloping site was densely covered with mature trees and black wattle scrub, but there were some open spaces. As well as a beautiful site, the area has deep volcanic soil and access to bore water making it a wonderful place to make a garden. Sue's plan was to create a formal garden without losing the wildness of the native landscape. Hence the name for the garden of Wildwood. There is a range of cool climate perennials and shrubs, including hellebores, clivias, magnolias, camellias and hydrangeas. They have also massed a collection of cool climate trees including maples and dogwoods. There is something exciting to be found in flower throughout the year. Our afternoon will take us to Mt Tomah Botanic Gardens where we will enjoy a guided tour of the gardens who will take us through the cool climate garden featuring over 5000 species of cool climate plants set on 28 hectares of land. Step back in time today while we visit Elizabeth Bay House. With commanding views over Sydney Harbour, Elizabeth Bay House gleams like a Greek temple. Once surrounded by famous landscaped gardens, it is one of the most splendid private houses ever built in Australia and still arouses our delight and astonishment. Its elegant rooms and fine proportions, sweeping staircase and lavish furnishings reveal the tastes and aspirations of its original owner, Alexander Macleay, after the governor, the most important public official in colonial Sydney. But it was his magnificent gardens which most keenly expressed his tastes and passions, and in the economic downturn of the 1840s pushed him towards ruin. Elizabeth Bay House is an iconic Sydney home, with an iconic Sydney back-story of obsession for property and position stretched beyond means and undone by changing financial times. We enjoy a guided tour today of the beautiful house. Lunch is included at the popular Paddington RSL Club today. Do not miss out! Get your tickets today!
