We hope to start league play the week of October 13 th with Men’s, Ladies, Seniors and Junior leagues as in past years and Tuesday “Drop-in” curling. We are planning to have the ice ready for free play or practice around the week of October 6 th if all goes well with the ice plant and ice installation. The city is responsible for the ice plant and has promised that the required upgrades to the ice plant will be done so that ice installation can start in early October and that we won’t have another compressor problem as we did last curling season. Speaking of the ice installation process, we have taken a major step and have ordered “End-to-End curling sheet runners” that will totally change the ice installation process. In the past, the installation took 8 -10 days and required several volunteers who did a lot of “down on the knees” work painting the curling houses and other markings. Under the new system, the nylon mesh runners will have the houses already on them and we will simply lay the runners down and flood over top of them – no painting Join us .... Thanks so much!!!

required. Installation time will be reduced to about 3 days or less. This change will be greatly appreciated by the ice committee and all the volunteers who helped with the ice installation process. During the past year, the club has made several improvements to the curling facility including installing sound baffles in the rink area; replacing the above ice air flow units and installing a new sound system in the upstairs banquet room area. We have also replaced the ice king and are in the process of replacing the rink score boards as well as the ice machine in the bar area. Other smaller improvements have been made in line with the Board’s goal of making our curling facility as up-to-date and efficient as possible. If you have any suggestions in this regard, please talk to one of the board members or to our office manager.Your officers and directors are voted in for a 2 year term and this year the offices of president and treasurer need to be filled along with three directors for a 2 year term to replace a director that had to resign. Please give serious consideration to allowing your name stand for election to one of

these positions and if you are interested, please contact me before our AGM which will take place Wednesday September 24th, 2014. Our club is operated almost completely by members who volunteer to perform various tasks required to keep our facility going and the board wants to give all our dedicated volunteers a “HUGE THANK YOU” for all your time and effort. I don’t believe our club could operate successfully without you and I hope that members will continue to offer their volunteer services in the coming season.

SEE YOU ON THE ICE

Board of Director nominations and elections

The current board members are really excited about the upcoming curling season but we need your help to make the year a success. Are you interested in becoming more involved in the club? There are vacancies on the board of directors and on various committees. Volunteer yourself at the AGM on Wednesday Sept. 24, 2014.
