Coals have a sulphur content between 2,2 ÷ 3,3 %, sometimes even higher. In coal, beside some other elements, sulphur represents an unwanted element, because by coal burning in steam power plants results an assembly of agents, one more noxious than the other, which leads to a mechanical and chemical pollution of environment.

Coals represent the power generating raw material, mined both at surface and in underground., with a major adverse effect over the surrounding environment. The economic sector should develop within a sustainable process. Consequently, the underground mining, for example, should provide a suitable safety level both for workers and for the deposit by implementing good technical measures. The paper covers several issues on ventilation during coal mining by different methods used on workings located one near the other.

Inside the exploiting process of coal from open pits, it takes place a process un impurification with waste material from intercalations of coal layers, and also with waste coming from the roof and floor of coal layer due to the non respecting of work technologies.

Europe is now being held responsible for the energetic defiance demonstrated by an increase of the global energy demand against meeting this demand especially by using fossil fuels (coal), oil and natural gas. The alarming pollutant effect of coal consumption, high oil prices and the EU dependence on the import of oil are just a few of the challenges for which the setting up of a common efficient and competitive European energetic market should provide solutions. The liberalization of energetic and gas markets through which the Union’s consumers would benefit by reduced and more transparent prices, by more rights, by protection against the

uncertainty/instability of energetic supplies and against disloyal commercial practices stands as an example in this respect.
