Works Instructions
1. Introduction
Cummins Product Registration is a website used to register Cummins engines. The
information is used by Cummins to ensure that we are prepared to meet the service needs
of our engines worldwide. Some information is used to meet the United States
Environmental Protection Agency’s emissions compliance regulations. The contact
information is used for campaign purposes, in case we ever need to reach the engine
owner. The information you provide with Product Registration is held in strict confidence
and will never be sold or shared otherwise.
2. Purpose
This work instruction contains the guidelines to be followed in the process for registering
Cummins engines though the different methods. It defines the use of the Product
Registration website and all data required on each section to assure proper
documentation and in each section, provides a step-by-step approach of uploading the
information to be registered.

(OEMs) register Cummins engines though three different methods:
A. EDI Process - This process is from the OEM side. The OEM updates their system and the date is automatically transferred to the Cummins database.
B. Web Form Instructions – Low Volume. The web form is intended for equipment owners/end-users who have one engine to register.
C. Excel Upload Instructions – High Volume The Excel template upload feature is intended for Cummins Distributors, Dealers, or OEMs who will be registering many engines on a regular basis.
(1) Requesting Access
(2) Registering Engines using the Excel Upload Feature
(3) This section describes in detail how to populate the Excel template.

Section 3: Frequent Questions
3.1 What browser should I use? Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome browsers are supported for the Cummins Product Registration website.
3.2 How can a customer register the vehicle or equipment with Cummins engines? A customer can register a Cummins product three ways:
Scan the QR code and complete the registration online. The QR code can be
scanned with a smartphone or tablet using a QR-Reader “app.”
Complete the registration online at productregistration.cummins.com.
Fill out and return the hardcopy card to Cummins (no postage necessary).
3.3 What parts of the Product Registration card are mandatory to register product? The customer email is optional, but all other information is needed to fulfil Product
Registration.
3.4 What is the difference between all the various “Registration” cards? There are many different types of “cards” for the customer to return information to
Cummins. These cards include, but may not be limited to, Product Registration,
Transmission, Warranty, etc. These are all separate needs to track customer information.
Product Registration is not related to the Warranty start date.
3.5 What is a QR code and what does it allow the customer to do for Product
Registration?
A QR code is black squares on a white background in a square grid that is a machine-
readable optical label that contains information which sends a user to the Product
Registration website to fill in customer information. See Figure 2.
Figure 2: Cummins Product Registration QR Code
3.6 Where can the customer find a Product Registration Card? Some customers may have received an Owner and Maintenance (O&M) Manual which
has the updated Product Registration card.
Cummins Product Registration
Rev 1 November 2017 Copyright Cummins Inc. 2017 Page 20 of 21
3.7 What if I don’t want to provide my email address? Cummins has a strict privacy policy. We will not sell your contact information to other parties. We will only use it to contact you about your product. An email address is requested in this form so that we can send you a confirmation of your registration. However, if you prefer, you can fill out the registration card found in your owner’s manual and mail it in. 3.8 How long does it take to update the data into the system? After the Product Registration tool receives files through the website, records are processed through the system once every 24 hours. 3.9 Why do I need the location of the vehicle’s/equipment’s? Cummins Inc. (CMI) is required to report the First Point of Retail Sale (FPOS) to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The Product Registration process captures the U.S. location of the vehicle’s/ equipment’s first point of retail sale (FPOS) from the entity purchasing the vehicle/equipment (i.e., OEM, dealer or end customer). In the Product Registration tool, FPOS is located in the required (*) fields within Product Registration. Reference CEB 00413 for Valid First Points of Retail Sale, reporting, inventory, and correct postal abbreviations of Canadian Provinces, and countries. 3.10 In the Excel template upload, why do I need to report the Green House Gas serial number? Cummins must receive from Distributors and OEMs the regulatory class of the completed vehicle as part of timely Product Registration to satisfy the EPA’s regulatory requirement for model year 2013 and later engines. Identifying and reporting 100% of GHG categories is required. Having GHG data for all Cummins engines sold allows CMI and its customers to achieve the greatest benefits from the service and support programs. Participating in and being an early adopter of such programs allows Cummins to competitively innovate and offer a wide range of products globally. For more information refer to CEB 00413. 3.11 In the Excel template upload, why do I need to report the aftertreatment serial number? One of the reason is that Cummins has identified a need to track certain components of the system directly affecting the emissions output of the engine which are not factory installed by Cummins. These components are specified by Cummins, but installed by the OEM: DPF / TWC and SCR.

This is part of the Serialization reporting that is required by the Regulatory Distributor / OEM Agreement. OEMs are required to report back to Cummins the VIN/Equipment Serial Number, ESN, and Aftertreatment Serial Number(s) which is a response to an EPA requirement. For more information refer to CEB 00408. 3.12 What is the Clean Idle Label and why do you need the number off it? Vehicles with engines certified to the optional NOx idling emission standard are required by ARB to have a “Certified Clean Idle” Label affixed to the vehicle. The Clean Idle Label is supplied for Cummins-branded engines by Cummins. Clean Idle Label serial number reporting is required by the Regulatory OEM / Distributor Agreement. OEMs/Distributors are required to report back to Cummins the VIN/Equipment Serial Number, ESN, First Point of Sale and Clean Idle Label serial number(s) to satisfy the ARB’s regulatory requirement for model year 2008 and later engines that qualify for California idling emission standards. For more information refer to CEB 00405. 3.13 Is this registration for warranty purposes?
No, there is no link between product registration and warranty. For all warranty inquiries
please email [email protected].
3.14 How do I register Cummins Onan products (generators)? Go to CumminsOnan.com and scroll all the way to the bottom where there is a "Support" section. Click on “Support”
You will find there at the bottom of that section, product registration.
