Fuel Rail Pressure Code May NOT Mean a New Pump is Required
1
Engine Tech Tip #19-0226
We know that the engine runs high fuel pressure, and the ECMmonitors that pressure to maintain efficiency. One fault code we haveseen is #559 and in troubleshooting we have replaced sensors and/orpumps as directed by Cummins only to find that they were not thecause. After researching what was found was that the unit was starving forfuel. We then started at the tank and worked our way forward to seewhere the issue was and nothing stuck out immediately so we dugdeeper …..We finally found that when the plastic loom covering the rubber fuelline (Blue Bird changed from the brown Synflex line to rubber) waspulled away where it comes up to the fuel/water separator mounted onthe fire wall that the hose was kinked causing a restriction. Please seeFigure #1.

Figure #1
Removing the line and shortening to reduce the angle opened thehose up but as a precaution in some cases a section of Synflex wasslipped into the rubber line to ensure the kink would not return.
