Grade 6 Papillon Trip Another academic year is over and once again the Grade 6 French classes have experienced

a memorable trip including some French culture, French language usage and French taste.

The following are quotes taken from retells written by some students:

Cherry (6B) I enjoyed the time that we had this trip. I hope that I can have a trip like this next year. I

excursion possible.

Hannah (6A) It’s been a great and amazing trip. I hope I go there again with my family! Also this

wouldn’t have happened without Mr. H., thank you for letting us experience so many different things!

Serena (6E) We went to the restaurant “Le Papillon” to eat notre lunch.

breuvage. They were délicieux. Après le repas délicieux we headed to the Distillery District.

I would definitely recom-

mend Le Papillon to ma famille et mes amis.

It was definitely la meilleure excursion de l’école I have ever had and I will never forget this expe-

rience.

I would go back if I could. Merci Mr. H!

Evan (6E) This has been a thrilling experience and une grande memoire pour moi! Merci Mr. H !!!

Student Council had a very successful year. This year, they planned over 10 spirit days, a can

drive that raised over 3,000 cans for Salvation Army, organized and implemented eco initia-

tives that won the school a gold status, organized and sold lolligrams, and planned and ran the

Open House Carnival. The last two events raised over $2,250 that was donated to FTC. Con-

gratulations to 7B for obtaining the highest Spirit Points this year. They will be making their

class banner which will be hung in the café along with the other banners from winning classes.

We are looking forward to a very successful year in 2016-17! Parents, as always, we thank

you for all your support!

On May 8, 2016, the Junior and Intermediate chess teams from Cummer Valley participated in

the TDSB Final Chess Championship tournament. Our Intermediate and Junior teams won sil-

ver medals in the TDSB championship! Congratulations to Daniel Y., Elia H., Calvin X., Ja-

son K., Heath C., Kyle Q., Yi D., Andrew X., Sina K., Raymond H., Rohit K., and Ethan

T. for a great season! Many thanks to our volunteer coach and mentor Mr. Cancelliere. This

win would not have been possible without his help!

EMU News Our Successes This Year

This is the way our tree nursery looked when we first began it years ago. And this is the way it looks now!

Help wanted (rewards involved)!!

Stop by sometime this summer and check out the amazing garden we have now. Please, bring some water and water the plants and baby trees. Feel free to pick some vegetables and take them home to eat – this garden is for everyone. We are only asking that you stay out of the tree nursery area as the baby trees are quite small and may be easily stepped on.

An enormous thank-you to the grade eight stu-

dents and Mr. Maleganovski who mulched the new trees in the back of the school. We are watering our young trees regularly and hope to soon see a shady

grove, that will shade the hot west side of the school. Around the base of some of the trees, you can see milkweed coming up – this is the plant that the monarch butterfly needs to support its larvae. Please be very careful around it – it is just coming into flower now.

We are delighted to announce that we will be having a water bottle refill station installed in September. This is a result of all the hard work of the few dedicated members of the EMU Refill Application team with special thanks to the top four workers: Catherine H., Sophie L., Caroline M., and Amy Y.

You may also notice some stickers on our light switches and some labels on our classroom garbage and recycling containers. This is the hard work of our grade six EMU Reduction team with special thanks to: Ilsa R., Ryan L., Hannah S., Parmin N.S., Shadi A., Kameela A., and Vania C.

This year, Cummer was awarded with GOLD status. As we continue to face the economic and environ-

mental consequences of humanity’s lack of concern for the environment, we hope that we will find more hands, heads, and hearts to share the load for next year.
