Culture and customs

For years we have had countries, continents, cities, counties, states, and colonies. All of them have different customs. I am doing my presentation on just the main customs that I think are used. The Olympics started in Europe and combined all the different cultures together and made a huge event around the world, and it is still going on today.

Clothes

Believe it or not but clothes are also deflected of what country lets you do or how strict the country is. In America people can wear really short shorts (Like in picture one.), and no one says anything to them. While in different countries, like Hijab they can barely show there face. (Like in picture two) All you can see is there eyes. It makes our society look bad in their country.

War traditions in battlesOver the years people would start traditions.

There are two main traditions that they do during a war..

Flag boy: this is one of the most important war traditions ever. It would raise peoples morals when they were down, and remind them that they served their country. They would give the first person in line the flag even if they had a gun. If in any case the soldier with the gun gets shot down the next person in line would then get the flag before it would touch the ground. If the flag did touch the ground they would have a ceremonial fire and burn the flag.

Page 7: Culture and customs

War traditions in battles Drummer boy: This also was a big job. They would try to lift

up the moral of the people in the war by making different songs and to annoy the enemy. Britain did it to America. They made the Yankee Doodle song.

Yankee Doodle went to town A-riding on a ponyStuck a feather in his capAnd called it macaroni.Yankee Doodle, keep it upYankee Doodle dandy Mind the music and the stepAnd with the girls be handy. Father and I went down to camp Along with Captain Gooding And there we saw the men and boysAs thick as hasty pudding.Yankee Doodle, keep it upYankee Doodle dandyMind the music and the stepAnd with the girls be handy

symbolism In the song Yankee Doddle the word Yankee was first

spoken in 1964 to the early Dutch settlers that meant that they took land that was not theirs but they did not steal it.

Doddle was first invented by the Germans in the 1970’s which meant a older word that now mostly means redneck or hillbilly.

In the song they talked about macaroni. Which is a fancy very expensive British group, that could afford anything. Yankee Doddle A.K.A. America was trying to be like the Macaroni club, putting the feather in his hat to be fancy so that he could join the macaroni club, but the British did not except Yankee Doodle.

Another tradition they would use was wearing masks to intimidate their enemy . In Africa they would make a mask and would pick a certain spirit animal and draw on it. To scare the enemy.

Page 10: Culture and customs

War traditions in battles In the army people would wear camouflage so

that the enemy would not see them. In the forest they would dress themselves as green moss and their clothes would often match a tree.

Surprisingly, we even use it in sports. Like our team mascot in football, basketball, soccer, hockey, and gymnastics. We mostly just use it for team colors to try to intimidate or to try get inside the other players head so that they can’t score a goal, run, score a basket, and a touchdown. So that team can win the game

Stories Stories they are a part of the past, some could be true and some could

be false. No one really knows if it is true or not. Sometimes stories are true but some people stretch the stories until it is a complete lie. So I have a story and I summarized in my own words

1. The legend of sleepy Hallow woods• It is basically about a guy named Ichabod who saw this rich guy with

his daughter walking to town and wanted to win her heart, and he does, but a guy named Brom who was mad that Ichabod stole the one he loved. Ichabod gets invited to a costume party. On his way to a party there is a mysterious person in the front. It turns out to be a guy with a pumpkin head. At first he thinks it is for the costume party then he realizes it is the headless horseman. The horseman then chases after Ichabod. Ichabod can feel the fire burning his neck from the headless horseman’s breath. He thought that if he can go past the bridge he would be safe. Then crash. Breakfast time passed and no Ichabod. Lunch time passed no Ichabod. Dinner time passed and all is found is a horse without a saddle, a smashed pumpkin and a burnt bag that is filled with brunt magic scrolls and the money that was his early pay.

Page 25: Culture and customs

Stories Like if the Scholar knew he was going to die. So any time you

talk about the hallow woods or about Brom he laughs. So is Brom the headless horseman? Can it be or not?

Like in that Story some parts are true:1. After his recent attack they found Ichabod in an older

farmers home severely injured . 2. Like the Scholar, Ichabod's best friend encountered a

goblin like creature and told every one to blame Ichabod’s death on the headless horseman and since he is a part of the law every one believed him.

3. The court took in Brom to testify if he attacked Ichabod after he recently purposed to the richest daughter in the land. Back then the best judges were the oldest women, and they found Brom not guilty and blamed supernatural means.

Crafts One of the main crafts is making masks to

scare and frighten the enemy when it comes into combat with it’s next victim. This craft is most likely to be found in Africa.

Painting is also a huge deal in crafts. It is used to tell stories in the painting that could last throughout the ages. Like Vincent van Gogh. A man who struggled with mental illness and used it in an amazing way and passion that no one has done before.

crafts

The one craft that we use now and some use it a lot is blue prints. This is used to create a house so that a house can be made and then changing the idea later. When you build part of the house and you have to brake the parts that just took you hours to make, you can think of an idea and do all the changes that you need to do using the blueprint. I recently went to a website called blue prints.com and found blue prints are used for cars, motorcycles, airplanes, weapons, trains, phones, cars, ships, trucks, busses and construction equipment.

MusicThere are lots of songs in the world. A lot of those songs come

from Americans or Britain's that translate to other cultures. Like this Taylor Swift song in Spanish:

Recuerdo la primera vez, que rompimos, Hasta aquí llegamos, ya tuve suficiente, porque como, No nos hemos visto en un mes, Cuando dijiste que necesitabas espacio, ¿qué? Entonces vuelves y dices, ‘Cariño, te extraño y te juro que voy a cambiar’, ‘Créeme’, recuerdo cuanto duró aquél día, Digo; ‘te odio’, rompemos, me llamas, te amo.

Page 30: Culture and customs

Other music Though not all songs are from America or

Britain. The national anthem is a song we all sing together in special events. When you go watch the super bowl, the person who sang it had to be some one very talented or some one famous. This year Beyonce sang the national anthem during the super bowl.. One is the Happy Birthday song it has been around for a while and what we would. All cultures have traditional songs. A traditional song is a birthday song and all you

Page 32: Culture and customs

music

do is count the days of the year. Then you divide that number by 365 days and celebrate that day by calling it a birthday. Another thing that was brought over to America is a mariachi band that plays all kinds of music throughout the country. With music that no one would have ever thought of. It came in songs that made you sad, and happy. It was all over the place. That was not the only one that was not from America. The African drummer. They would sing traditional songs in rituals that would help them claim their animal spirits and sing songs to the witch doctor to help him heal their patients faster from diseases.

sports

Over the ages we have started different sports. A good example is the Olympics. It changed more than 15 times. Even though we are still doing it, we still switch between summer and the winter Olympics. Every two years and stop the Olympics in world wars. Like in world war one and two.

Football: An American type sport that can be found in countries such as Brazil, Spain Portugal, the Netherlands, and Italy.(top six)

1. It’s tradition is touching a banner before the game to give the team luck to win the game against the opposing team.

Page 34: Culture and customs

sports Soccer: A unique sport that only lets you use

your feet or hands. The objective is to score the most goals, and try to protect your own goal.

1. Their only tradition is singing a song called who ate all the pies. To try to make fun of the opposing team.

Rugby: A sport that is a little like football that is literally on going and only ends if the game is over.

1. Rugby's number one tradition is the Haka song and dance. That is trying to get in the opposing teams head so they can win the game. Even if the song takes time.

Page 35: Culture and customs

Celebration

A sign of happiness like when your team wins in a certain sport. Or when your fantasy football team is 10-0, so far. I’m talking about the celebration days in our country. In most countries each country would have at least one.

One famous one is Independence Day. When your country rains free from another's rule. A sign of victory for it’s country to prove that the country is worthy of being a country.

Page 36: Culture and customs

Celebration

New Years Eve is big because it reminds you that it is a new year so every thing bad that happened is in the past and focus on a new future.

Christmas is celebrated world wide. It meant that Jesus Christ was born and that greatness has come into the world. Now families spend time with their families and open presents right next to a Christmas tree.

and the cultures that are around us today. Without those cultures and

differences that we have today. Life would probably be dull and boring. With every one thinking the same,

doing the same, and liking the same thing, life would be boring.
