_ Criolo (São Paulo – SP) Rap / Hip-Hop

One of the most important voices of music made in Brazil today. From the school of rap, he is the one responsible for bringing Brazilian rap to new levels of recognition and for promoting the inclusion of other rhythms and musical references, such as MPB (Brazilian Popular Music), Soul, Funk and Blues.

_ Lenine (Recife – PE) + Orchestra Martin Fondse Brazilian Popular Music

With more than ten albums released, Lenine won five Latin Grammys, plus several awards in Brazil. He has appeared in dozens of countries and in major music festivals around the world, such as Roskilde (Denmark), Womad, organized by Peter Gabriel (England, Spain and Canary Islands), Festival of Montreal (Canada) and Eurockéennes (France). Celebrating 30 years of career, Lenine joins Dutch maestro Martin Fondse (winner of the prestigious Edison Award – 2012/ National Jazz) and his modern orchestra in a tour of Europe with the project "The Bridge".

_ Barbatuques (São Paulo – SP) Body Percussion

International reference in body percussion, the group Barbatuques produces organic music using their own bodies as musical instruments. Different melodies and rhythms are created from voice effects and exploration of sounds produced by the human body. The result is amazing.

_Tropicália Yesterday and Today: Lucas Santanna + Jorge Mautner + Jards Macalé (Rio de Janeiro – RJ & Irará and Salvador – BA) MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) – Tropicália Tribute

Show in tribute to Tropicália, Tropicalia Yesterday and Today is directed by Lucas Santanna

(Bahia) and band with the special participation of two towering Brazilian musical references,

the inventive Jorge Mautner and Jards Macalé. Lucas Santanna has performed at the Barbican

Theatre in London, and participated in the radio program Worldwide, nu jazz DJ Gilles

Peterson, broadcast in over 20 countries, with about half a million listeners every week. The

album ranked first in the Top 5 of the World Music site WOMEX 2011, was nominated for

German Critic Awards and the Songlines Music Awards (Britain). It was during six months in

the Top 3 of WMCE, World Music Charts Europe, an association of broadcasters covering 12

European countries. It was voted the best album of 2011 by foreign French newspaper

Libération and the sixth best album of the year by the French magazine Les Inrockuptibles.

_Guinga and Quinteto Villa Lobos (Rio de Janeiro – RJ and São Paulo – SP) Instrumental

Nominated as Best Album of Instrumental Music at the Grammys, Rasgando Seda brings a show in celebration for the 50 years of the chamber group “Quinteto Villa-Lobos”, one of the most important instrumental music groups in the world. The show features works by composer Guinga (guitar) in new arrangements with Antonio Carlos Carrasqueira (flute), Luis Carlos Justi (oboe), Paulo Sérgio Santos (clarinet), Philip Doyle (horn), Aloysio Fagerlande (bassoon).

_Zélia Duncan (Niterói/RJ): A Voice of Brazil sings Itamar Assumpção

The acclaimed singer Zelia Duncan has performed in many countries. The show pays homage to one of the most prolific Brazilian composers and musicians, Itamar Assumpção, who dominated the alternative scene in São Paulo in the seventies and eighties, a movement called Vanguarda Paulista.

_Fabiana Cozza & hr-Big Band (São Paulo – SP & Frankfurt) Samba + Bossa Nova + Jazz

Show specially created for the program of hr-Bigband. Brazilian singer Fabiana Cozza

interprets a repertoire of Jazz, Bossa and Samba in partnership with the hr-Bigband.

_ Junio Barreto (Caruaru – PE) MPB + Manguebeat

A cult reference in the new MPB (Brazilian Popular Music), the musician Junio Barreto — known as the Caymmi of Caruaru — represents the Manguebeat movement, which mixes different rhythms like samba, guitarrada, soul, with electronic elements: Brazilian folk with an urban accent.

_ Virgínia Rodrigues (Salvador – BA) Bossa Nova + Jazz

Her music is influenced by classical music, samba and jazz. The Times of London wrote: "... new Diva of Brazilian music, the Bahian singer touched Brazil with her debut album Sol Negro, a rich mixture of African and Portuguese influences and samba”. In the United States, Europe and Japan, she is published by Rykodisc label, owned by Chris Blackwell, the publisher of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and U2.

_ Film Festival Festival of classical films in the history of Brazilian cinema, together with contemporary movies that prove the real partnership between literature and the seventh art, through adaptations and screenplays created by fiction writers. In addition to these, the two winners of the VII Foreign Ministry Prize to Brazilian Cinema will be shown.

_Exhibition Hélio Oiticica: “The Great Labyrinth”

A retrospective of the work of Hélio Oiticica, considered one of the most revolutionary artists of his time. Oiticica was called the Brazilian Andy Warhol by Rolling Stone magazine. The exhibition entitled "The Great Labyrinth" is curated by Fernando Cocchiarale and César Oiticica Filho.

12 graffiti artists — internationally recognized exponents of street art — are invited to create their works in different public spaces in Frankfurt.

Hall 4.1 – Exhibition “Beyond the Library”

The projects Brazilian Publishers (CBL/APEX-Brasil) and Latitude – Platform for Brazilian Art

Galleries Abroad (ABACT) get together to produce, during the Frankfurt Book Fair 2013, the

exhibition Além da Biblioteca (Beyond the Library, in a free translation). The exhibition will take

place at Hall 4.1, curated by Ana Luiza Fonseca, and will be composed by artist’s books (books

that are works of art). All the artists shown here are Brazilian, represented by art galleries

linked to Latitude.

_FULL/EMPTY In full / empty, Adriano and Fernando Guimarães investigate their own memory and the work of playwright Samuel Beckett to create an interactive exhibition space. Here, the boxes are at the same time an object of contemplation (viewer-voyeur) and a potentially relational machine (viewer-participant) and can be occupied and transformed by the action of the gallery visitors and/or the performers.

ImPermannences The body is wrapped by metal wires that run simultaneously as containment and extension, creating an environment where the boundaries are dissolved between body and wires, a body-object being thus born.

04th and 05th October 2013 _Bruno Beltrão and Grupo de Rua de Niterói (Niterói – Rio de Janeiro) Dance & Performance

Crackz! With an international coproduction and a world premiere at the Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels in May 2013, this new work by Bruno Beltrão investigates the boundaries between copyright and the possibilities brought about by sampling. He makes direct use of references from other artistic works, advocating that ideas are totally and irrevocably public.

Performances at the home of city dwellers and a video installation

Utopia.doc

Performances are held in people's homes: the residents of the city of Frankfurt. They offer:

their home, their histories and their responses to questions from the creators, and some

personal object. They receive: a performance created for them, a meeting with the artist, an

art object (a text, an object used in the performance, a video, etc.).

Julia

Adaptation of the classic "Miss Julia", by August Strindberg. The plot written in the nineteenth

century tells of the impossible affair between the daughter of an earl and a servant. In the

show directed and adapted by Jatahy, the story takes place in Brazil today, where the young

Julia, 17, is the daughter of a wealthy businessman and begins a relationship with the family

chauffeur, Jean. The plot raises questions around social prejudices and inheritance from

slavery.

End City Chorus City Reverse City In this fable, the group follows the trajectory of three workers in 1980 during the rise of the labor movement in São Paulo, and discusses the relationship between political commitment and political memory.

100 places to dance Video installation that is composed of 100 mini-videos that transform architectural spaces and cultural centers where it is presented.

09th, 11th and 13th October 2013 _João Penoni (Rio de Janeiro) and parties (DJ Dolores) Performance

Lumen Luminous flux. The artist recreates his own body. In a totally dark environment, his movements leave a trail of light. Suspended from an invisible bar, with blinking lights attached to his body, he moves acrobatically in the darkness.
