Dnepr, July 2006, Launch Vehicle Failure

Launch Update: On 26 July 2006, a Dnepr launch rocket

carrying two ICE Cube satellites and many cubesatsfrom other insitutions had a failure , resulting in an

unsuccessful launch. Reports indicate that the first

stage booster of the Dnepr rocket shut down

prematurely before the second stage could kick in to

send the satellites into space. The rocket and its

multiple payloads crashed just more than 100 miles

from the underground silo where the mission was

launched at Baikonur Cosmodrome in the former Soviet republic of Kazakhstan. ISC Kosmotras, the

launch provider, is currently investigating.
