About the IFC

Dear fellow Buff, On behalf of the University of Colorado’s Greek community, we would like to congratulate you on your decision to become a student here in Boulder. By deciding to attend this prestigious university, you have placed yourself in a position to participate in many great activities. At the top of this list is the Greek system.

Fraternity recruitment offers you an opportunity full of rewards and challenges. In our system of fifteen fraternities there is a place for every man to excel in academics, athletics, leadership, campus and community service, as well as social activities that may not be available in other organizations. In addition to these, fraternities offer a common bond that unites each of us in brotherhood. Your fraternity brothers will not only be your friends through college, but for the rest of your life.

Joining a fraternity is a big step in your life; therefore, we encourage you to explore as many different chapters as possible in order to find the fraternity that is right for you. Good luck, and enjoy fraternity life at the University of Colorado.

ακακAcacia

The Colorado Chapter of Acacia Fraternity was re-colonized in 2008 after its original founding in 1911. We have since established ourselves as leaders on campus who cherish close brotherhood connections and the active Colorado lifestyle. With interests ranging from sports and music to academics and leadership, we represent the best parts of our University and what it means to be a true fraternity man.

Our chapter is endowed with one of the most modern and innovative houses in the nation, completed in 2013. In addition to a fraternity space boasting a library, social space, home theater, and air conditioned dance floor, living spaces are apartment style, affording members the flexibility necessary for both our academic and social pursuits

We think the men of our chapter, and our chapter house itself, will challenge your expectations of what a fraternity can be, and we invite you to stop by for a visit.

The Brotherhood Although there is a strong alumni presence in Boulder, we are still young, relative to our re-colonization. This youth, combined with the fact than many of our re-founding fathers are still active in advising roles, keeps us in touch with our roots. As a chapter we pride ourselves on finding distinctive individuals and creating strong bonds of brotherhood. We use member development programs such as Cornerstones to further ourselves. We are looking to expand our membership to establish ourselves more fully in the Greek community. We are looking

for men who are strong leaders, who work hard academically, and who are socially comfortable.

Alpha Gamma Omega

Alpha Gamma Omega is a Christ-Centered fraternity. In other words, it is a brotherhood founded on the teachings and principles of Jesus Christ. It is a community of men with a common mind of sharing the gospel. With that unity of mind, we eagerly seek to grow true relationships on the foundation of our personal relationships with God. We desire to mature spiritually, excel in academics, and expand our connections through social events. Alpha Phi Delta

The Delta Chi chapter of the Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity was founded at the University of Colorado in 2001. Being an Italian Heritage Fraternity, we put a big focus on the value of family in our brotherhood. We often hold events, such as going paintballing, going to Rockies games, and brotherhood dinners. Our current membership is over thirty members, allowing members to know each and every brother on a personal level.

We put an emphasis on our members being scholars, athletes, and gentlemen. To help our brothers achieve higher grades, we hold study hours where brothers can study together in a quiet environment. Each semester, our brotherhood participates in Intramural Sports such as Football, Basketball, Soccer, and Hockey. To better our community, we also participate in philanthropic events, such as our monthly Hill Cleanups where we pick up trash on the streets of Boulder. We also stay active in the Greek Community, interacting with other Fraternities and Sororities through Greek Week and hosting Mixers. In 2014, we proudly won the Homecoming competition among the CU Greek Community.

Alpha Sigma Phi

Alpha Sigma Phi were originally chartered at CU Boulder in 1915. After a 50 year hiatus, beginning shortly after WWII, we re-established ourselves at CU in 2013, led by a group of passionate, hard-working men, committed to becoming the premier fraternity at CU Boulder. Through bettering ourselves, we strive to change what it means to be a Greek Man at The University of Colorado. Now, two years after re-chartering, we are on the way to achieving the lofty goals of our re-founding fathers.

Over the last 2 years, our fraternity has nearly tripled in size, and in 2014 the Interfraternal Council named us the “Most Improved Chapter of the Year”. However, we did not earn this award simply from rapid growth. We earned it through a dedication to improving ourselves as men and recruiting gentlemen who truly represent the best-of-the-best.

We are a group of guys with a diverse array of interests bound together by a common set of values, including and most importantly chivalry and accountability. Pi Kapp is involved in Greek-wide and chapter-only activities, including supporting and actively involving ourselves in our fraternity’s philanthropy, The Ability Experience, which is directed toward raising awareness, fundraising, and hanging out with people with disabilities. One of our main goals in the philanthropy is to break down the social stigma tied to having a disability and recognizing that everyone is different and should be celebrated for being themselves. This attitude toward the individual transcends everything we do as Pi Kapps. We are a fraternity of men who look for “ideal Pi Kapps” during rush. We look for men better than ourselves so we can benefit and grow from each other's individuality rather than expect them to become cookie cutter versions of ourselves.

ΤΚΕTau Kappa Epsilon

TKE Gamma Iota is fresh. It’s the only fraternity at CU Boulder established in the last 10 years. We create our own kind of fraternity, our own traditions, and our own rules. Explosive growth has catapulted Gamma Iota from an unofficial colony to a chapter in less than four years, seeking talented, driven, powerful brothers to fuel the fire. TKE is not for everyone. TKE is for a man with a strong handshake. TKE is for leaders, not followers. TKE is not just for men, but for better men. We don’t care what you’re wearing, as long as you look good.We don’t care how you do it, as long as you get it done. We know that if you’re the kind of man who’s always imagined himself as his own boss, a man who makes his own schedule, a man who does what he needs to do, not what he’s supposed to do – we know we want you to rush TKE.

Theta Xi at the University of Colorado is a chapter involving men of all backgrounds who have come together to enhance their collegiate career through the Greek system. We emphasize being active members of the Greek community as well as experiencing the amazing outdoors Colorado has to offer. Our Chapter House is located right on University hill directly behind Fox Theatre. With most of our brothers living in the surrounding blocks, the house acts as a central place for our members to convene on a regular basis.

We focus strongly on social, philanthropic, and outdoor events. Theta Xi works hand-in-hand with the National Headquarters to organize philanthropic events with both the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation and Habitat for Humanity. This chapter is very proud to give back to the community and help those who are less fortunate.

Annually Reaffirmed: January 2015Originally Adopted: August 2007

We, the brothers, alumni, and leaders of the independent and autonomous Undergraduate Interfraternity Council at the University of Colorado, Inc., come together to make the following statements about the common, core beliefs of our fraternity community:

• We are currently one united, independent community, comprised of fifteen national fraternities, with over fifteen hundred individual brothers who are undergraduate students at the University of Colorado.

• Fraternity men and their chapters have been an integral part of the CU community for well over one hundred-thirty years, with many tens of thousands of alumni brothers in Colorado and throughout the world.

• As individual students, we are members of our fraternities as well as hundreds of other student-based CU organizations of every type. We are first and foremost serious, degree-seeking students at the University of Colorado and we will always be loyal “Buffs” for life. We know that the primary reason to be a brother in a fraternity in Boulder is to add value to our undergraduate educations and to our baccalaureate degrees through our current life experiences.

• In accordance with our commonly held fraternal values, we strive to the best of our ability to be good and contributing citizens of our country, state, and local communities, as well as good, productive members of our fraternities, our colleges and university, and our families.

• Since the spring of 2005, our fraternity community, the Interfraternity Council, and its member chapters have been neither recognized nor registered as campus student organizations at the University of Colorado. Fraternities in Boulder have not been “affiliated” with CU since the 1960s.

• As a community, we collectively and unanimously chose not to sign the University’s “Registered Fraternal Organization Agreement” in the spring of 2005. This decision was unanimously supported by our IFC leaders, our chapter presidents, our local alumni advisors, our International Fraternity organizations, our International Executive Directors, and the leadership of the North American Interfraternity Conference.

• We fully understood, both then and since, the impact of that decision. Both the Interfraternity Council and its member chapters take full responsibility for the consequences of that decision.

Community Beliefs

• Since making that decision, we have grown into a genuine, thriving community in Boulder. Working as a community, along with the Alumni Interfraternity Council, we have come together, formed new and better relationships with one another, established higher standards and expectations of ourselves and each other, and learned how to hold ourselves and each other accountable to those standards.

• We know that, individually and communally, we are an asset to our University, the City of Boulder, the State of Colorado, and the United States of America. We have developed outstanding, collegial relationships with many Boulder entities including many University Divisions and Departments, the University and Boulder Police Departments, Boulder Fire Department, the Boulder Valley School District, the University Hill community, and the Boulder Chamber of Commerce, to name a few. We also provide ongoing support and service to many local and national non-profit organizations as well as University organizations, departments, and resource centers.

• We are continually striving for the improvement of our community, our chapters, and

our brothers. However, while perfection in everything we do is an ideal goal, it is not an appropriate standard for the evaluation of our performance. It is the Interfraternity Council’s and its member chapters’ constant and consistent performance standard to meet and exceed the performance of “all undergraduate men” by any objective measure. That includes, but is not limited to, scholarship, academic accomplishment, good citizenship, campus and community leadership, athletics, social activities and behaviors, philanthropy, and community service.

• Therefore, we jointly resolve that at this time we are actively seeking neither “rapprochement” nor “reaffiliation” with the University administration. Rather, we will invest all of our time, energies, fiscal resources, manpower, and organizational endeavors in the improvement of our fraternal community. It is our goal to be the best fraternity community in the nation. This can only happen by the growth and development of even better fraternity chapters than we have today. Such chapters can only grow and develop by the recruitment and “building” of even better fraternity brothers than those of the present or the past. This is our primary goal and our main reason for existing at the University of Colorado.

• In conclusion, we firmly believe that if we do this well, our value as members of the University family will become increasingly apparent to all stakeholders. When that happens, we believe that we will be asked to return to the folds of the University of Colorado community as full partners in a common future.
