OUR HISTORY
www.clean-tech.com.au 2
For over 7 years Clean Technology Partner’s path has followed that ofAustralia’s burgeoning commercial, utility and hybrid solar PV markets.
Founding Directors
Lachlan Bateman – Managing Director
Lachlan has been working in solar energysince graduating in 2003. Starting his careeras a project engineer in Melbourne, Lachlan subsequently moved to the UK where he spent 5 years working on solar projects across Europe. Lachlan established Clean Technology Partners in 2011 to provide professional engineering services to the then fledgling Australian commercial and utility scale PV markets.
Matthew Haddad – Technical Director
With over 10 years working in the solarand electrical engineering fields, Matthew‘sengineering experience includes electricaldesign, power system modelling and PV solarfarm design. Matt has experience as leadelectrical engineer on a number of large scalesolar farms internationally, including UK’s first utility scale PV system and the first utility scale PV system connected to Australia’s National Electricity Market.
Considered niche at the company’s inception, these markets have steadily increased in prominence and are now considered by many as the main driver of the Australian Renewables Industry. The growth of these markets has necessitated an increase
in the sophistication, innovation and dogged persistence of the solar industry to overcome a raft of cost, regulatory and technical barriers. This is where Clean Technology Partners’ services, solutions and expertise comes to the fore.
Having played key technical roles in many of Australia’s leading solar PV projects, Clean Technology Partners have developed specialised engineering capacity to assist the industry reach its goals faster, at lower cost and risk.
Clean Technology Partners’ mission is to provide the most innovative engineering services and solutions for the solar PV industry.

OUR SOLUTIONS
Clean Technology Partners is Australia’s trusted name in the solar industry. Our engineering team has worked with leading switchboard manufacturers to design the CTP grid box solution:
a plug and play grid protection solution applicable across all states in Australia.
This set of grid protection switchboards is also known as: “network protection units”, “central grid protection”, “secondary grid protection” etc. The CTP grid box is manufactured and pre-programmed to meet the specific requirements of each of Australia’s DNSPs. The grid box solution provides a “plug and play” grid connection package for solar installers, retailers and PPA providers.
Our latest generation of grid boxes for systems >100kW includes a revenue-grade, NMI approved meter and provides remote access to an integrated energy trading platform. This seamlessly integrates with you LGC / energy trader and system owner, minimising ongoing handling effort of income via LGCs and / or PPA.
• Turn-key: pre-installed and pre-programmed solution, turn-key protection and metering package; single point of contact
• High quality: designed by experts, customised accordingly to the specific needs of your projects, expert technical support, professional customer support

CTP Scope Coordinate the grid connection of the proposed Solar PV array on the United Energy network. CTP also designed and provided Grid Boxes for secondary protection for the Solar PV array.
Project Challenges Mazenod College is a large school that has had numerous new buildings added to the site since its founding in 1967. The installation of over 1,000 PV modules and 15 inverters across five roofs required careful and detailed planning.
Project Results At completion, the project was the largest Solar PV installation on a school in Australia. The project was launched in September 2015 by Stan Krpan, CEO of Sustainability Victoria.

Limited or No Export SystemsIf there are existing constraints on the local network (eg transformer size), DNSPs will require the
PV system to be fitted with no-export control. The power flow through the sites consumer mains is monitored by CTs installed within the main switchboard which connect to the Grid Box’s protection relay which will provide
soft and hard export control as required by AS4777.1:2016.
Typically, the No-Export Grid Box will be installed within 10 m of the Main Switchboard (to limit CT cable length). In situations where this is not possible, or the Grid Box needs to be connected via a sub-board within a building, a smaller Protection Panel is installed beside the Main Switchboard to monitor power into the site flow. The Grid Box (with inverters connected) is located elsewhere on the property.
CTP can also provide an inverter control solution for most major inverter brands (SMA Fronius, Solaredge, etc.) that will limit the generation of the inverters to the site load. This is especially useful for sites that have a variable load profile or a PV generation that will exceed the load profile during working days. Inverter control will prevent reduced energy yields due to nuisance tripping of export protection.
The inverter controller is a sophisticated system that steps the inverter generation up and down, following the load profile. In summary:
• Export controlled installation is simple as inverter controllers are supplied pre-wired within the Grid Box.
• Communicates with inverter gateway for simple integration with online monitoring.
• Limits PV generation to site consumption level to prevent nuisance tripping.
With Inverter control, when the PV gets close to
exceeding the load, the Grid Box controller ramps
the generation up and down to follow the load.
For technical specifications refer to EX-Series.
This situation shows the advantage of inverter
control: maximising generation for non-export
PV systems (purple curve), minimising billed import
from the grid (red curve).
For specifications, please refer to EX-Series.
