Carefully read this manual before using the machine.Make sure that you know how the machine functions andhow to operate it. Maintain the machine in accordancewith the instructions to make sure it functions properly.Keep this manual and the enclosed documentation withthe machine.

Electrical safetyWhen using electric machines always observethe safety regulations applicable in your countryto reduce the risk of fire, electric shock andpersonal injury. Read the following safetyinstructions and also the enclosed safetyinstructions.Keep these instructions in a safe place!

Always check that the power supply corresponds tothe voltage on the rating plate.

Your machine is double insulated inaccordance with EN 50144; therefore noearthwire is required.

Replacing cables or plugsImmediately throw away old cables or plugs when theyhave been replaced by new ones. It is dangerous to insertthe plug of a loose cable in the wall outlet.

Using extension cablesOnly use an approved extension cable suitable for thepower input of the machine. The minimum conductorsize is 1.5 mm2. When using a cable reel always unwindthe reel completely.

GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONSWarning! When using electric tools, basic safetyprecautions should always be followed to reduce therisk of fire, electric shock and personal injury,including the following. Read all these instructionsbefore attempting to operate this product. Retainfor future refence.

1. Keep work area cleanCluttered areas and benches invite injuries.

2. Consider work area environmentDon’t expose power tools to rain. Don’t use powertools in damp or wet locations. Keep work area welllit. Don’t use power tools in presence of flammableliquids or gases.

3. Guard against electric shockPrevent body contact with grounded surfaces (e.g.pipes, radiators, ranges refrigerators).

4. Keep children awayDo not let visitors contact tool or extension cord.All visitors should be kept away from work area.

5. Store idle toolsWhen not is use, tools should be stored in dry, high,or locked-up place, out of reach of children.

6. Don’t force toolIt will do the job better and safer at the rate for whichit was intended.

7. Use right toolDon’t force small tools or attachments to do the jobof heavy duty tool. Don’t use tools for purposes notintended.

8. Dress properlyDo not wear loose clothing or jewelry. They can becaught in moving parts. Rubber gloves and nonskidfootwear are recommended when working outdoors.Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair.

9. Use safety glassesAlso use face or dust mask if cutting operation is dusty.

10.Don’t abuse cordNever carry tool by cord or yank it to disconnect it fromreceptacle. Keep cord from heat, oil and sharp edges.

11.Secure workUse clamps or a vise to hold work. It’s safer than usingyour hand and it frees both hands to operate tool.

12.Don’t overreachKeep proper footing and balance at all times.

13.Maintain tools with careKeep tools sharp and clean for better and saferperformance. Follow instructions for lubricating andchanging accessories. Inspect tool cords periodicallyand, if damaged, have repaired by authorized servicefacility. Inspect extension cords periodically andreplace if damaged. Keep handles dry, clean and freefrom oil and grease.

14.Disconnect toolsWhen not in use, before servicing, and whenchanging accessories such as blades, bits and cutters.

15.Remove adjusting keys and wrenchesForm the habit of checking to see that keys andadjusting wrenches are removed from tool beforeturning it on.

16.Avoid unintentional startingDon’t carry plugged-in tools with finger on switch.Be sure switch is off when plugging in.

17.Outdoor use extension cordsWhen tool is used outdoors, use only extensioncords intended for use outdoors and so marked.

18.Stay alertWatch what you are doing. Use common sense. Donot operate tool when you are tired.

19.Check damaged partsBefore further use of the tool, a guard or other partthat is damaged should be carefully checked todetermine that it will operate properly and performits intended function. Check for alignment of movingparts, binding of moving parts, breakage of parts,mounting, and any other conditions that may affectits operation. A guard or other part that is damagedshould be properly repaired or replaced by anauthorized service center unless otherwiseindicated elsewhere in this instructions manual.Have defective switches replaced by an authorizedcenter. Do not use tool if switch does not turn it onand off.

20.WarningThe use of any other accessory or attachment otherthan recommended in this operation instructions orthe catalog may present a risk of personal injury.

21.Have your tool repaired by an expertThis electric appliance is in accordance with therelevant safety rules repairing of electric apliancesmay be carried out only by experts otherwise it maycause considerable danger for the user.

22.Connect the dust extraction deviceWhenever there are facilities for fitting a dustextraction system, make sure it is connected andused.

SPECIAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

• Always keep the cord away from the moving parts ofthe machine.

• In the case of locking, switch the machine offimmediately and remove the plug from the mains.

• Compare the maximum number of revolutionsallowed of the accessories with the number ofrevolutions of the machine.

• When you put the machine away the engine must beswitched off and moving parts must have reached astandstill.

• Never attach an assembly spanner to your machine

with a piece of string or anything similar.• Never use the axle locking button if the machine is

operating.• Make sure that the spring chuck diameter is the same

as the axle diameter of the accessory.• Use a clamping device for securing the work piece.• Keep your hands away from the work piece.

ASSEMBLY OF ACCESSORIES

Before assembly always remove the plug from themains.

Press down the axle locking button (2) and hold it down.Using the spring chuck spanner you can undo the springchuck (1). Put the accessory in its place. Hold down theaxle locking button when you fasten the spring chuckwith the spring chuck spanner.

OPERATIONSwitch on the machine by engaging the slide-switch (A).By adjusting this slide-switch you can also regulate thespeed of the combitool.

Do not put the machine down when the motor is stillrunning. Do not place the machine on a dusty surface.Dust particles may enter the mechanism.

Too high a load at a low speed of the Combi toolcan burn out the engine.

MAINTENANCE

Make sure that the machine is not live whencarrying out maintenance work on the motor.

The Ferm machines have been designed to operate overa long period of time with a minimum of maintenance.Continuous satisfactory operation depends uponproper machine care and regular cleaning.

CleaningRegularly clean the machine housing with a soft cloth,preferably after each use. Keep the ventilation slots freefrom dust and dirt.If the dirt does not come off use a soft cloth moistenedwith soapy water. Never use solvents such as petrol,alcohol, ammonia water, etc. These solvents maydamage the plastic parts.

LubricationThe machine requires no additional lubrication.

FaultsShould a fault occur, e.g. after wear of a part, pleasecontact your local Ferm dealer.In the back of this manual you find an exploded viewshowing the parts that can be ordered.

ENVIRONMENTIn order to prevent the machine from damage duringtransport, it is delivered in a sturdy packaging. Most ofthe packaging materials can be recycled. Take thesematerials to the appropriate recycling locations.Take your unwanted machines to your local Ferm-dealer. Here they will be disposed of in anenvironmentally safe way.

GUARANTEEThe guarantee conditions can be found on the separatelyenclosed guarantee card.

MOUNTING THE FLEXIBLE SHAFTAND STAND

FLEXIBLE SHAFT.- Screw the black ring off the chuck and remove it.- Mount the flexible shaft on the Combitool, placing

the inner shaft (1) in the chuck. The black ring of theflexible shaft (2) can then be fastened onto theCombitool.

Never operate the axle locking button if the engineis still rotating.

STAND FOR THE COMBITOOL- Mount the stand on the side of a workbench or

worktop with a maximum thickness of 55 mm.- The height of the stand is adjustable. Loosen the top

tube of the stand by turning it anticlockwise. Drawthe tube out to its maximum height and secure it byturning the tube clockwise.The height of the suspension bracket is adjustable byloosening the black knob. After adjusting thesuspension bracket to the correct height, retightenthe knob.

- Attach the Combitool to the suspension bracket ofthe stand; this suspension bracket can be turned360°.

Accessories for the Ferm CombitoolFerm does not deliver spare accessories for theCombitool. The Combitool is designed to use thestandard accessories of Dremel, Black & Decker, Boschor Proxxon.Always check that the maximum rpm of the accessory issuitable for the maximum speed of the Combitool.

Grinding stones:When using a grinding stone the first time, use thedressing stone to balance it. The dressing stone can alsobe used for cleaning the surface or to give the grindingstone a special shape.
