Motivation for the Green eMotion Project

■ Number of eCars is increasing heavily in Europe over the next decade (see draft of EGCI Roadmap for EV in Europe);

■ Quite a big number of electromobility demonstration projects funded by regional, national or European programs are running.

Two major requirements: Coordination of results fromdemonstration projects to define best in class solutions; Standardisation of technologies has to be in place 2015 at the latest.

Page 12: CTL and its involvement in the EU co-funded project FP7 call TRANSPORT - 2010 TREN -1 43 partners Project Start: March 2011 Green eMotion Rome 21 st March

Page 12 March 2013

• Acceleration of the mass market deployment for electromobility in Europe;

• Connect existing demo regions to select best in class solutions for an European electromobility reference model;

• Increase user acceptance by demonstration of the interoperability between the demo regions

• Enable a European wide market place for electromobility to allow for roaming and other value added services;

• Develop widely agreed proposals for setting standards in the electromobility area (to be processed by the standardisation bodies).

In the Green eMotion demo regions roughly 2,000 EVs are driving right now and for their electricity supply more than 2.500 charging points are installed.

This will increase to around 70.000 EVs and more than 80.000 charging posts in 2015.

In total more than 380 Mio € are spend in funded projects within these demo regions (+ private investments by GeM partners)

• Rome would like to test innovative form of e-vehicle sharing – MicroMobility;

• MicroMobility (MiMo) aims to solve the last mile individual transportation integrating conventional collective PT with e-vehicle sharing.

• MiMo stations spread on the territory allowing users to rent a e-vehicle (e-bike, e-moped or e-car according its needs) in A to reach B leaving the e-vehicle in the B station.

Within GeM a three stations demo with about 30 e-vehicles is foreseen in order to:

• Assess potential impact of MiMo on mobility demand;

• Define a plan for the diffusion of MiMo at least in Rome historical centre;

• Understand:

• Barriers to the MiMo full deployment;

• Real costs of implementation and management;

• Most effective business model;

• Best technical solutions;

• User acceptance.

• GeM is now nearly two years that is on-going and a lot work has been done;

• One of the main result is the amplification and integration of many activities carried out at European, national and regional level;

• Still a lot of work to be done on:

• Standards for recharging systems;

• Common and accepted business models;

• Common and accepted ICT solutions.
