CTE HIGHLIGHTS February is Career Technical Education Month 2016 Gadsden Independent School District Best-in-State! STHS Students Win Verizon Innovative App Challenge Santa Teresa High School s Technology Student Association Team, under the direction of sponsor Maggie Romero, created an app designed to cognitively engage and connect people suffering from PTSD. Students won $5000 for their school and a tablet for each team member. The team advanced to Verizons national competition. GHS DECA Joins Clear the Haze Campaign Gadsden High School DECA students join the Evolvement campaign this year as their main community service project. Evolvement is a national youth movement against the destructive nature of the tobacco industry. Evolvements mission isnt to make smoking illegal, or to fight against smokers, it is to promote a world that rejects tobacco by its own free will. Gadsden DECA students attended a training and are now well on their way in supporting this great community cause. Students are currently involved in the campaign called Clear the Haze that educates the public about the dangers of smoking a hookah. CHS Law Enforcement Students Give Back to their Community Students organized, fundraised, and purchased gifts for the Second Annual Holiday Gift Drive to benefit teens at CMS and CHS. Students held bake sales to fund the gift drive. The 2016 Chaparral High School Health Fair will take place during ICAT Conferences. Law Enforcement students, under the direction of sponsor Ron Richman, will give presentation about domestic violence, teen drinking, drug abuse, first aid and CPR. GHS Business Professionals of America are Keeping Busy Students attend CORE (Chapter Office Retreat for Excellence) Leadership Conference in Albuquerque, October 2015 BPA, DECA, and Educators Rising members held a blanket drive for the community as part of the Fall Community Service Project, November 2015 BPA members were judges for the Loma Linda Elementary Science Fair, January 2016 BPA received $1,562.50 for submitting all documentation for the NM CTSO Chapter Incentive Program, January 2016 BPA Regional Competition results – ALL students advanced to State Competition in Albuquerque on February 15-17th! Santa Teresa TSA Students Students participated in the NM BEST Robotics Competition held at NMSU. More than 400 students from around the state, Arizona, and Texas competed. TSA members participated in the STHS Penguin Parade by volunteering their time and fundraising. Congratulations! STHS TSA Chapter met qualifications specified in the Chapter Incentive Program earning $1562.50! Students traveled to Santa Fe to meet with state legislatures to discuss Career Technical Education in New Mexico.

CTE HIGHLIGHTS February is Career Technical Education Month

2016 Gadsden Independent School District

Best-in-State! STHS Students Win Verizon Innovative App Challenge

Santa Teresa High School’s Technology Student Association

Team, under the direction of sponsor Maggie Romero, created
