CT BG News July 2010

The word is out; Tecumseh is the place to be! Campers continue to sign up for the second session, and the
overall enrollment is at a ten year high! In addition to a full camp, Director Jim Talbot has also hired a ded-
icated and talented group of counselors, all of whom care deeply about doing their best on behalf of each
camper. And while hot and humid clearly describes the weather this summer, nothing can dampen Tecum-
seh’s spirit for competition, fair play, and gentlemanly conduct. We are living out Alexander Grant’s
dream in excellent fashion; Camp Tecumseh is thriving!
The past three weeks have flown by rapidly; blue-gray competition is in full swing, the Tecumseh Warriors
have entered numerous outside competitions, and the Rookie, Junior, and Senior Basketball Leagues are up
and running – crazy names and all! The Waterfront has been in overdrive for much of these first three
weeks, the climbing wall has attracted a solid following, and riflery, archery, and fencing further broaden
our daily program. CLICK HERE for a few pictures!
Beyond a usual Tecumseh day, numerous special events also enrich our daily program. Earlier this week
campers and counselors alike defended our title as the winner of the 21st Annual Jim Gibbons Track &
Field Invitational. This annual event allows Tecumseh to gain a ―sneak preview‖ of our friends from Camp
Pemigewassett. Tecumseh prevailed with a fine camp-wide effort. After breakfast and after dinner the Te-
cumseh Family has been treated to many heartfelt and powerful Huddle and Prayers talks delivered by our
counselors. What a credit it is to our campers, who respectfully attend to each speaker. Tecumseh Meetings
(a weekly opportunity to share a moment of silence and a few comments with the entire community) are
sprinkled liberally with insightful and helpful observations from campers and counselors of all ages.
In other important news the transition to our new food service has been seamless, and the food has been
delicious! The new dock is beautiful and a resurfaced and irrigated Grant Field is the envy of all our com-
petitors! Many camp buildings now enjoy the efficiency, safety, and beauty of metal roofs, and the entire
Farmhouse complex has been repainted. Over the past several years the Board of Trustees has adopted an
aggressive yet thoughtful plan for maintaining and enhancing Tecumseh’s outstanding facilities. The cur-
rent Tecumseh family has taken full advantage of each enhancement and is most appreciative of such gen-
erous stewardship.
At Tecumseh we teach technique, skills, and tactics every day, but more importantly we brand each camper
with the following rich and powerful Tecumseh attributes: independence, effort, integrity, and sportsman-
ship. Jim Fraser and Bob Glascott lead the way in providing outstanding role models from our campers and
younger counselors, while our entire senior staff has distinguished itself for its ability to work so well to-
gether and truly support each other.
Great kids and a great staff are enjoying a terrific summer; all is well at ―the greatest place on Earth.‖
Jim and Nina Talbot
