INVOCATION Gracious Eternal God, this is the season of
light. Light from the festive glow of the
Menorah, warmth from the yule log fire,
radiant beams from the tender face of the
babe born in Bethlehem. In this the darkest of
months, we give thanks for the light You bring
to humankind. We give thanks for the light
this Rotary Club has shed throughout its long
history on so many others, both here at home
and throughout the world. We ask that we be
nourished by this food, fellowship and
reflection on our past and energized to
convey Your perpetual light . . . forward into
the future. In Your holy name, Amen.
NASUDNONG AWIT Yutang tabunon, mutya nga masilakon.
Putling bahandi, amo kang gimahal. Mithing
gisimba, yuta’s mga bayani; Sa manlulupig,
pagdapigan ka. Ang mga buntod mo ug
lapyahan, sa langit mong bughaw. Nagahulad
sa awit, lamdag sa kaliwat tang gawas. Silaw
sa adlaw ug bituon sa nasudnong bandila.
Nagatima-an nga buhion ta ang atong pagka-
usa. Yutang maanyag, duyan ka sa pagmahal,
landong sa langit ang dughan mo. Pakatam-
ison namo nga nagatukaw kung mamatay
man sa ngalan mo!

There is no experience quite like attending the Rotary International Convention. Discover the true spirit of aloha and Rotary with your family, friends, and fellow Rotarians from 6 to 10 June in Honolulu. It is the perfect setting for the entire family of Rotary to celebrate, collaborate, and connect.
There are two types of people who enjoy visits to Hawaii — those who have never been to the islands and are about to have unique and wonderful experiences, and those who have had those Hawaiian moments etched into their memories already and cannot wait to create some new ones.
The convention is the best place to find and share your aloha, which you will soon discover is much more than a greeting. Just as Rotary is a way of life for Rotarians, aloha is a way of life for Hawaiians — one that focuses on living in harmony, being patient, treating everyone with respect, and sharing joy with your family, or 'ohana.
Our host committee has arranged some fabulous events for you and your family. This includes a Hawaiian Culture and Lunch Boat Cruise, a two-hour tour that will feature spectacular views of Diamond Head, Waikiki, and the Kahala Gold Coast. On board, you can learn to play the ukulele, take part in hula dancing, and create your own Hawaiian flower lei.
You will also have the opportunity to enjoy a full range of island hospitality events, from small backyard picnics to multicourse family meals. There will be fantastic service projects to see, including two ancient Hawaiian fishponds. And a sunrise Walk for Peace will take place at the beautiful Ala Moana Beach Park, a 3-mile stroll in the shadow of the iconic Diamond Head crater. …..continue next page

Inside and outside the convention halls, we are going to hold the most family-friendly convention in Rotary history, including a family-centered opening ceremony and family-focused events in the House of Friendship. The opening session will, of course, include our traditional flag ceremony.
Our 2020 convention will also be a time to celebrate Rotary's historical ties to the United Nations. As I mentioned in my November message, June 2020 will mark the 75th anniversary of the signing of the United Nations charter. On the day before the start of the convention, Rotary and the UN will host our fifth joint event of 2019-20, one focused on environmental sustainability.
In addition, we are planning the greenest convention in Rotary history — and I will share more details about this in the months ahead. But now, go to riconvention.org and click the REGISTER button right below the Honolulu Hawaii 2020 logo. Early registration discount pricing ends 15 December, so do not delay.
Rotary Connects the World in no better way than at the Rotary Convention. Bring your family to meet our family. See you in Honolulu!

The year is almost over, and I know that you are thinking about
giving gifts and making last-minute contributions. You are
wondering how best to show your appreciation and love.
The answer is very simple — make your gifts to The Rotary Foundation. Don't take my
word for it: In an independent analysis, your Rotary Foundation was ranked No. 1 among
the world's best-known charities. For the 12th consecutive year, The Rotary Foundation
has received the highest rating — four stars — from Charity Navigator, an independent
evaluator of charities. The Foundation earned the maximum of 100 points for
demonstrating both strong financial health and commitment to accountability and
transparency in Charity Navigator's August ratings. …..continue next page
P a g e | 5 OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF RC CEBU www.rotarycebu.org RY 2019-2020
In a letter to the Foundation, Charity Navigator notes that "only 1 percent of the charities
we evaluate have received at least 12 consecutive four-star evaluations, indicating that
The Rotary Foundation outperforms other charities in America. This exceptional
designation from Charity Navigator sets the Foundation apart from its peers and
demonstrates to the public its trustworthiness."
This recognition comes on top of awards won in the past several years. Rotary's
commitment to eradicating polio worldwide won Best Nonprofit Act in the Hero Awards of
the One Billion Acts of Peace campaign, an international global citizens movement to
tackle the world's most important issues. And the Association of Fundraising
Professionals — the world's largest network of professional fundraisers — named The
Rotary Foundation the World's Outstanding Foundation, honoring our long-term
achievements.
It's easy to say that we belong to one of the greatest philanthropic organizations in the
world. But the truth is, your Rotary Foundation is the best. So close out the year by giving
the greatest gift of all to the world. Gimme five and show your support for The Rotary
Foundation.
Have a merry Christmas and a happy new year!
WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK… By: Walter Cang
With Pres. Mike Torres leading the charge
of RCC members attending the Rotary
Institute, many familiar faces were
missing at our meeting last week. PE Ed
Gaisano had the honor of calling our
meeting to order and he certainly seems
to be getting the hang of it! He
congratulated our hardy team of riders
who finished the recently held Perimeter
Ride to End Polio and the positive results
of their effort. He then reminded us of the
different club activities that are coming up,
including the Governor’s night, Rotary
Institute, Christmas party for both our club
on the 13th and CSYGC to follow. He
acknowledged that while the meeting
appears to be sparsely attended, the
convergence of so many activities
We welcomed guests from RC Metro
Cebu who joined our meeting to share
news about a worthy fund raising project,

The World’s Big Sleep Out. Ms. Maritess
Mendoza, representing Pres. Cathy Cusi
of RCMC spoke to us about this worldwide
endeavor to bring attention to the scourge
of homelessness around the world. She
presented a video that provided
information about this problem worldwide
then explained how they are taking action
to bring it to the forefront. She invited our
members to take part in a gathering on
Dec. 7 at the City Sports Complex in
Abellana; and to actually sleep outdoors
just like what many homeless people do
each day.
We took this opportunity to invite Rtn.
Fred Regottaz, who is returning to his
home country in France. Fred has been
with us for several years and we will
certainly miss him. PE Ed presented him
with a Rotary pin as a
remembrance of his time with
us. Sec. Walter also spoke
briefly to remind everyone
VTT is coming up in 2 weeks
and requested everyone to
check their duties and
responsibilities on the
volunteer matrix that is being
circulated.
Our guest speaker, Atty. Eric
Menchavez presented his
views on the salient points of
a one-person corporation.
This is a new ruling from the
SEC that is clearly a big
takeoff from the traditional
corporate structure that we all
know of. He effectively presented the
difference between the former and latter
and it was an interesting presentation.
Whereas the traditional model requires a
physical person to form the officers of the
board, the new option allows officers to be
appointed but they do not need to have
any stake in the corporate entity.
He also explained that in the eyes of the
governing body, an entity can be a natural
person or a non-juridical person, in the
form of a corporation. He shared some
caveats where this rule is not allowed,
such as corporations in certain industries,
professions, etc. Needless to say his talk
generated a lot of questions so much so
we went beyond our allotted meeting time
as there were many questions fielded and
answered.

their Christmas

write down their 3

charge of creating and
designing their gift boxes to showcase their creativity. All the kid’s boxes are turned
over to Rotaractors to have it safely keep. While all their wish lists will be forwarded
to Rotary Club of Cebu and frien ds to consider and have the wishes granted.
Rotaractors and Rotarians will work hand in hand and will do their very best to grant
the children's wishes and have it provided to their respective gift boxes for the
upcoming CSYGC Christmas Party
project this December.
Days like this are the most
awaited days of these children.
The Rotaract Club of Cebu and
Rotary Club of Cebu are looking
forward for the Christmas Party of

they will be happy!

Warm smell of colitas, rising up through

Up ahead in the distance, I saw a

My head grew heavy and my sight grew
dim
I had to stop for the night.
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself
'This could be heaven or this could be
Hell'
Then she lit up a candle and she
showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say
Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place (such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face.
Plenty of room at the Hotel California
Any time of year (any time of year) you
can find it here
Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the

She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that
she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet

Some dance to remember, some dance
to forget
So I called up the Captain,
'Please bring me my wine'
He said, 'we haven't had that spirit here
since nineteen sixty-nine'
And still those voices are calling from far
away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say"
Welcome to the Hotel California

They livin' it up at the Hotel California

A woman walks into a bank
A woman walks into a bank in New York
City and asks for the loan officer. She says
she's going to Europe on business for two
weeks and needs to borrow $5,000. The
bank officer tells her that the bank will
need some kind of security for such a
loan, so the woman hands over the keys
to a new Rolls Royce that's parked on the
street in front of the bank.
Everything checks out, and the bank
agrees to accept the car as collateral for
the loan. An employee drives the Rolls
Royce into the bank's underground
garage and parks it there.
Two weeks later, the woman returns,
repays the $5,000 and the interest, which
comes to $15.41. The loan officer
approaches her and says:
"We are very happy to have had your
business, and this transaction has worked
out very nicely, but we're a little puzzled.
While you were away, we checked out
your accounts and found that you were a
multimillionaire. What puzzles us is why
would you bother to borrow $5,000?"
"Well, where else in Manhattan can I park
my car for two weeks for fifteen bucks?"
