Overview: Course Contents

Overview: Chicago State University’s Communication, Media Arts, and Theatre (CMAT) Department has a wealth of talented and well-known professors within our grasp. This is more than reflected within WCSU radio, with award-winning V103’s very own deejays Herb Kent and Troi Tyler serving as General and Station Manager; the training is impeccable. Students flourish when given the opportunity to showcase their skills via internship, graduate school, and/or gainful employment.

Overview: To further produce multifaceted media students, Chicago State University is introducing Practicum in Media. This course is designed to introduce and educate our community on the art of listening, writing, and producing public-affairs style radio. Course Goals: How Do We Succeed? The classroom is our newsroom. Each class meets to read, listen, discuss and question campus, national and international issues. This is how we learn and digest what to report on.

Our classroom consist of listening to and dissecting stories (short and long form) that can challenge your intellect as well as place a fire of change in any media student’s journalistic spirit. We also have a rubric that is used to determine whether or not we have written, reported, edited, and produced pieces that meet or exceed journalistic expectations.

Course Goals: How Do We Succeed?Initially, segments will remain campus bound. Meaning, students are interviewing several different departments and further discover what makes our school so wonderfully unique.

. Perhaps students uncover :• How do we get healthier and diverse menus in

the cafeteria?• Who and why are we honoring the chosen few

at the annual Angel’s Gala dinner?• The Athletic Department has been awarded $2

million. How are they going to use the funding?
