TYLORELDER

PRESENTED BYCOLBY MODEL MANAGEMENT

In the span of years before Tylor became involved with modeling, he was very active in athletics rang-ing from skateboarding and biking to snowboard-ing and baseball. As a young child, he looked up to people like Travis Pastrana, (who he actually met on a cruise) Tony Hawk, Dave Mirra, Shawn White and Cal Ripken Jr. They all showed guts to perfect their passions in what they loved to do which sparked Ty-lor’s imagination and was contagious for him. And now, he’s not just ready to show what he can do; he’s ready to own the that spotlight.

Never stop chasing your hopes and dreams. Find out what you really love and what you want to do the rest of your and go for it. Life gives you plenty of time to experience a great journey from your wildest dreams..”

CSM: In those spans of year/s or the experi-ences, who was your inspiration to venture this kind of work or career?TYLOR: I also played trumpet when I was in grade school due to my interest in music but was short lived when I started playing the guitar in ninth grade. As I grew into music I got really into Dave Matthews. His music motivated me to express myself through guitar and vocals. His band is assembled with the some of the greatest musicians in the world. When they come together it is a spectacular show in itself.

As I started looking into him, I found he started as an actor and later fell into music. Acting was never a thought of mine but I always looked up to Russell Crowe and Mel Gibson in my favorite movies such as, “Gladiator” and “The Patriot”. Being here in New York City brings all these passions together as a possible way into the industry. Thinking of myself as a hybrid to all these interests spilling into what is marketing myself.

CSM: When you were growing up, what was your goal/s or perhaps your dream before prior to the work your currently in?TYLOR: As I said previously, when I was young I was really into athletics. Baseball as a young lad was my priority sport. I always dreamed of being in the MLB. Being a professional baseball player was definitely the coolest thing on my list! As I grew older I started extreme sports like snowboarding and a little surfing. In early high school I actually became a snowboard instructor for two local mountains outside of my hometown, which I did for numer-

ous years. I became fond of teaching others how to snowboard because for me, snow-boarding was a great way of expression. Gliding down the sides of mountains plow-ing through snow leaving your tracks like an artist’s painting strokes on their canvas was so therapeutic for me.

A great friend of mine brought me twice on snowboarding trips to the great city of Aspen, Colorado. Since then I’ve been hook on snowboarding and the lifestyle out west. I can’t go one winter without being out on the mountain at least a handful of times. Let’s just say if it wasn’t for New York City I might be a ski bum - a snowboard instruc-tor somewhere in the state of Colorado.

CSM: How do you manage your time with you busy schedule?TYLOR: Having constant communication with my manager Ryan Colby is crucial in making my schedule. Having a manager/agent and being in a good positive relation-ship with them is a blessing in itself. He helps me through everything and works hard to push in marketing me, clutching jobs wherever he can, for which I am for-ever so grateful!

If you are to have an agent/manager/men-tor you need to be 100% coherent and always on call for whatever their needs. This industry is very fast past/last minute and doesn’t have time for you to go missing for six hours/nowhere to be found. Anytime you could be in a situation; where you need to be at a casting/fitting/shoot within three hours in the city and you need to be around/available to succeed in that request.

CSM: How do you maintain your figure or physical physique?TYLOR: Maintaining my figure is so much easier here in New York City than back in my hometown. I’m always moving and working to survive here. Once you get your feet wet in this city sometimes you barley have time to cook a full meal which helps for me not to over eat because food to be honest is one of my best friends - if you catch my drift. I really stay committed to my work outs, which consist of running a couple miles twice a week, pushups and sit ups every day, also doing core exercises at the gym at least twice, pushing for three times a week.

The key to keeping your figure is in the kitchen! The food you endure is the most important thing to configure your physique. My daily meals consist of eggs, toast, an orange/apple, along with detox water in the morning. My detox water incudes; slices of cucumbers, a little knot of ginger, and a squeeze of lemon. Lunch and dinner always include meat, veggies, and some pasta/rice a grain of some kind. I have a late night food craving usually, which is a problem for most people I know, but i try and control that but what I will do for the nighttime is a simple popping of some natural popcorn adding a little salt and that’s all I need.

Your nutrition and exercise is very impor-tant to living a healthy lifestyle. Something that also helps me a lot with my wellness is yoga! It’s a great way of relieving stress and stretching your body witch you need to do twice a day for your muscles. Confiding to all these routines is what makes my figure physically and my brain mentally succeeds in this life/industry I lead.

PROMINENCE OF GROWTH AND CAREER:

CSM: What motivates you and how do you maintain the drive of your work?TYLOR: My motivation is the journey of New York City. The people you meet and the things you do being in a great city like New York, keep me going day by day, I am

always advancing and learning more every day. CSM: What’s your greatest mistake or fail-ure and what lesson did you learn from it?TYLOR: My greatest failure was not taking full advantage of my education when I was in high school and college. The mind is a terrible thing to waste and when I was in school I was too busy being social to really test my intelligence. It was actually NYC that sparked my interest in growing intel-lectually which has had me reading since I’ve been here.

CSM: Wave your magic wand, where do you see yourself in ten years?TYLOR: I see myself fulfilling my acting career and also putting out a couple albums of mine. Added to that, I see myself also living in the beautiful rocky mountains of Colorado by a ski resort, a snowboard bum by winter and a beach/musician bum in California by summer. Still commuting to LA for work in my army green custom modified Range Rover of course.

CSM: Why do you want to work in this field or industry?TYLOR: I’ve always known I had a unique way of thinking and that I could not live without adventure, travel and new experi-ences. I took a chance to come here in NYC and somehow found myself molding into the industry and enjoying every minute of it. I guess it just came natural to me once it came into my life making me cling onto it like a baby to its mother.

CSM: Without being biased, how would your family and friends describe you?TYLOR: My family would say I’m outgo-ing, kind, respectful, and athletic but also very headstrong. I know that’s what they’d say.

CSM: Your work can be stressful at times, how do you manage those or handle such things?TYLOR: It’s easy to handle the stress, there’s a couple ways I do so. Being an outdoorsman going outside and viewing

Page 19: CSM Men's Issue: The 3rd Anniversary Special Edition

the beauty of nature is a great reliever for me. Playing my guitar and maybe having a nice cocktail are some ways which help to relieve stress. Playing guitar, reading, and acting have been ways I express myself since I’ve been in this great city of NYC. Expression is one of the best ways to guide you on your path and another great way to vent and de-stress as well.

CSM: During your free time or when you have an enough luxury time to relax for a bit, what are the things you usually do to unwind?TYLOR: To unwind I like to go to the park and play some guitar in the goodness of nature. Also we just got hammocks for our backyard and I’ve been spending a lot of time hanging out in them reading scripts/books. It’s been a great way of unwinding for me the past month.

OUTSIDE THE ZONE, OUTSIDE THE BOX:

CSM: What are food and drinks guilty plea-sure you can’t resist and why? TYLOR: I don’t usually eat out on the go much; I try to cook at home. However, if someone even mentions Chipotle to me I can’t resist taking a lunch with a friend for a nice handful of burrito from the place! Chipotle is my spot! Drink wise if someone offers me a beer or whisky drink mostly of any kind I’ll take it (laughs).

CSM: If you can name five male figures or personalities who display masculinity in their career and great role model for the society, who would they be?TYLOR: Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., Cal Ripkin Jr., Mel Gibson, and Trevor Hall

CSM: If you were to name the five things or characteristics that your fan base and supporters doesn’t know about you, what would they be?TYLOR: I love extreme sports - my way around NYC is by longboard. In my home-town of Hanover, Pennsylvania we butcher our own meat, I am a certified life guard, and lastly I am also a certified snowboard instructor.

CSM: On top of your head, what five adjec-tives describe you best?TYLOR: Outgoing, Courteous, Daring, Headstrong, and Athletic

CSM: Who is the most influential man and woman in the world and why?TYLOR: One of the most influential men for me would be Jack Black. Jack always performs great work; not only on point but with a big smile of his face and without a care in the world what you would think of him. My most influential woman would have to be Alanis Morrsette. She is just so strong willed in all aspects which I’ve seen in her interviews and also heard in her music. Her music has helped billions of people get through hard times including me.

CSM: You will be stuck in an island on purpose for one year, what are the top ten priority things you will bring?TYLOR: I would bring my guitar, surf-board, fishing pole, good knife, notebook, pen, camera, couple good friends, a year supply of alcohol, and a pair of swimming trunks.

CSM: If you have an unexplained terminal illness and you’re dying, what would be your one, last dying wish?TYLOR: My last dying wish would be to meet Jennifer Aniston and get at least a kiss from her.

CSM: Lastly, what are your final mes-sages to your fan base and supporters that constantly follow you or at least look up to you?TYLOR: My final message is to never stop chasing your hopes and dreams. Find out what you really love and what you want to do the rest of your and go for it. Life gives you plenty of time to experience a great journey from your wildest dreams. If you don’t pursue them and fulfill you’re your hearts desires in your life, how will you ever really feel accomplished?

Cory works in the oil field, so his job can be physically demanding and the schedule can get hectic. So as an NPC competitor, this poses a big challenge with prep work. He spends a lot of time away from home so when he returns, he just want to relax and spend time with his family, his friends, and hang out on the golf course and put in a little extra effort in the gym.

COVERAGE BYIAN CARLO BAJADA & ISAAC CHRISTOPHERSON

You might be doing a fantastic job, but if no one knows that, you won’t be rewarded for it.”

My message to everyone would be that every day

is a new day, with new opportunities. So

whether it’s with your career or with your

fitness journey; wake up, dress up, show up and

take yourself serious. Put in the effort to be a

better person than you were yesterday. Don’t

take anything or anyone for granted, take full

advantage of opportunities presented

before you. You never know what doors may

open.”

CSM: In those span of year(s) or the experi-ences, who was your inspiration to venture this kind of work or career?CORY: I wouldn’t say I had any inspira-tion to work in the oil field, but given the physical demands, and throughout the years of doing so, it has inspired me to lead a healthier lifestyle. I’ve always enjoyed being active and staying physically fit just helps to ensure a lesser chance of injury while on the job.

CSM: When you were growing up, what was your goal(s) or perhaps your dream before prior to the work you’re currently in?CORY: Growing up I wanted to be a fire-man. I thought that it was an admirable, respectable profession and definitely a great way to help people. It just ended up being something I didn’t pursue. I’ve been with my company for 15 years so I enjoy what I do. I feel like it serves a purpose.

CSM: How do you manage your time with your busy schedule?CORY: I definitely have a busy schedule so managing my time is a job in itself. I always have to be prepared for the next day, especially with food prep. Between that and making time for the gym it usually results in a lack of sleep. It’s not quite as busy on my days off of course, so I can usually take it easier and get a little more sleep.

CSM: How do you maintain your figure or physical physique?CORY: Maintaining what I’ve worked for takes a lot of dedication, a lot of prepara-tion. Again, being a competitor I keep strict meal plans, eating towards whatever goals I may have at the time. I make time for the gym, which may consist of early morning cardio and/or late night lifts. It’s a process, and it’s a struggle, but I actually enjoy the struggles! It’s a challenge that I’m always up for!

PROMINENCE OF GROWTH AND CAREER:

CSM: What motivates you and how do you maintain the drive of your work?CORY: I think what motivates me most is change. Not only seeing my physical changes, but changes within myself person-ally. Whether it has to do with my career or fitness journey, setting goals and putting in the work to reach those goals has taught me to be more consistent and patient; seeing others do the same is even more motivating. It makes me want to try harder and ulti-mately doing more to help others. People feed off each other and that, to me, can be very motivating.

Page 23: CSM Men's Issue: The 3rd Anniversary Special Edition

CSM: What’s your greatest mistake or fail-ure and what lesson did you learn from it?CORY: I think one of my greatest mistakes is taking things for granted, or procrastinat-ing. Sometimes I can get too busy or caught up in what I’m doing that I tend to put things off. Which may result in me forgetting to do something and end up getting myself in a bind. So, don’t put off till tomorrow what you can do today!

CSM: Wave your magic wand, where do you see yourself in ten years?CORY: If I could wave a magic wand, in ten years I would be retired and doing some-thing I really enjoy and have a passion for; like personal training, helping others suc-ceed in reaching their own goals.

CSM: Why do you want to work in this field or industry?CORY: First and foremost, it’s fun. I find pleasure in seeing myself and others make changes. It’s something special to see some-one knock out crunches, which 30 days prior couldn’t do so. I just want to continue to grow and learn and make a difference helping others along the way.

CSM: Without being biased, how would your family and friends describe you?CORY: Hardworking and dedicated. My family and friends know my demanding work schedule. So with that, I’m sure they know I’ll still do what I need to do to stay prepared and on track. I run on a lack of sleep for a month at a time so some may even call me crazy. I just hope it’s enough to motivate at least one person.

CSM: Your work can be stressful at times, how do you manage those or handle such things?CORY: I just take one task at a time, one day at a time! You can’t do everything all at once.

CSM: During your free time or when you have an enough luxury time to relax for a bit, what are the things you usually do to unwind?CORY: When I have time to relax, I just want to prop my feet up on the couch and watch a movie with my family. I’m away from home a lot, and when I’m home it seems at times I’m still on the go, so I really enjoy the quality time with my family.

OUTSIDE THE ZONE, OUTSIDE THE BOX:

CSM: What are food and drinks guilty plea-sure you can’t resist and why? CORY: I think most can relate to this, but my guilty pleasures have got to be desserts, cheesecake especially. I don’t eat much candy, but Reese’s Peanut butter Cups are a go to. I mean who doesn’t love the peanut butter combination?!

CSM: If you can name five male figures or personalities who display masculinity in their career and great role model for the society, who would they be?CORY: This is a tough question. It’s diffi-cult for me to specifically name 5 male role models. A role model, to me, is someone I can look up to, admire and respect. That can be anyone! The first person that comes to mind is my stepfather. He’s retired military, hardworking, positive, honest and fam-ily oriented. I can also consider one of our trainers from Eye Candi Fitness a great role model. He genuinely cares about his clients and their successes, as all coaches should. I could also look to one of my supervisors I’ve worked with. Someone who not only cares about getting a job done, but cares about the employees as people and seeing them grow. Little things like that really mat-ter to me. I could name professional athletes and/or celebrities as well, but for me per-sonally, I want a role model to be someone I can see or have some contact with on a regular basis.

Nam ut massa turpis, ac blandit justo. Nulla ultri-ces, odio com-modo faucibus commodo, mi nisi tempor”

Page 24: CSM Men's Issue: The 3rd Anniversary Special Edition

You might be doing a fantastic job, but if no one knows that, you won’t be rewarded for it.”

CSM: If you were to name the five things or characteristics that your fan base and supporters doesn’t know about you, what would they be?CORY: I may be a little OCD. I like things done a certain way or in a certain order. I’m a bit of a neat freak, but at the same time I can also accumulate clutter, which I’m still trying to figure that one out. I’m pretty hot natured, so my house needs to be freezing for me to be comfortable and to be able to sleep. I’m a big movie fan. I don’t have a favorite tv series, I’d rather watch movies. Will Smith is my favorite actor so anything with him is a big hit with me. I have a shoe and watch fetish. You can’t have too many of either.

CSM: On top of your head, what five adjec-tives describe you best?CORY: I would have to say hardworking, dedicated, caring, honest, and I’m probably the funniest person I know!

CSM: Who is the most influential man and woman in the world and why?CORY: I’m choosing to make my answer to this a more personal one, and say my mother and stepfather. To some, this may be a quick, easy, simple minded answer, but their thoughts and opinions always mattered, and still do. They’ve supported every decision or endeavor I’ve encoun-tered. They’ve always been there to pick me up and dust me off if I’ve ever fallen, and always will be. They’re two of my best friends and I’m really fortunate to have the relationship I have with them.

CSM: Let’s say a genie does exist, if you can marry someone in the world who would it be and why?CORY: Well if a genie did exist, I would have to say Carrie Underwood, for obvious reasons. She’s successful, great voice, and attractive. I’m obviously a fan.

CSM: You will be stuck in an island on purpose for one year, what are the top ten priority things you will bring?CORY: I would definitely say my cell phone, but that’s obviously not an option. I need to eat so I’d need a fishing pole, a machete or big knife of some sort, a skillet and plenty of pepper of course. The com-panionship of my girlfriend would be nice. I’d have to have shelter so tools to build would be a benefit. I’d have to have clothes and a pair of shoes. And fire, so I’d like to have a fire starter of some sort.

CSM: If you have an unexplained terminal illness and you’re dying, what would be your one, last dying wish?CORY: If I had a terminal illness, my last wish would be to spend my last days with my 3 children and my family. It’s not very often we can all be together, and those are the days I miss the most.

CSM: Lastly, what are your final mes-sages to your fan base and supporters that constantly follow you or at least look up to you?CORY: My message to everyone would be that every day is a new day, with new oppor-tunities. So whether it’s with your career or with your fitness journey; wake up, dress up, show up and take yourself serious. Put in the effort to be a better person than you were yesterday. I have seen that is has brought so many people happiness and positivity, surrounding myself in a field of positivity will ensure my own personal enjoyment as well as facilitate my success as an industry professional. “

CSM: In those spans of year/s or the experi-ences, who was your inspiration to venture this kind of work or career?MICHAEL: Previously working for the Adonis Cabaret as the UK’s answer to Magic Mike, I found inspiration through my manager who was an ex stripper and an inspiration to all who represented him and his company.

CSM: When you were growing up, what was your goal/s or perhaps your dream before prior to the work your currently in?MICHAEL: As a youngster my goal was always to become as tough as my dad. With this I wanted to join the Royal Marines as soon as I could, I gained a lot of experience with the British Military by doing so and wouldn’t be the person I am today without this experience and these opportunities.

CSM: How do you manage your time with you busy schedule?MICHAEL: It’s hard keeping track of every-thing as well as being a full time student, model, performer and athlete, but with lots of enthusiasm and hard work I have been able to continue to succeed in every area over the past 2 years.

CSM: How do you maintain your figure or physical physique?MICHAEL: Playing Rugby at a high stan-dard helps me to maintain my physique as well as using the knowledge of training and nutrition which I acquired at University.

PROMINENCE OF GROWTH AND CAREER:

Nam ut massa turpis, ac blandit justo. Nulla ultri-ces, odio com-modo faucibus commodo, mi nisi tempor”

CSM: In those spans of year/s or the experi-ences, who was your inspiration to venture this kind of work or career?MIKE: I have always been a visual artist, but wanting to take music more serious came in the years that I have attended at The University of the Arts and being able to witness all the raw talent has inspired me immensely. As well as my mothers’ inexpli-cable talent playing a major part in ventur-ing towards my career in the future.

CSM: When you were growing up, what was your goal/s or perhaps your dream before prior to the work your currently in?MIKE: Growing up I had a typical dream of being a professional basketball player for the NBA and there was not anything or anyone could tell me about my chances.

CSM: How do you manage your time with you busy schedule?MIKE: I try not to let my busy schedule get in the way as I my days out each night so that I have the ability to use every minute wisely, all the while making room to move certain daily goals around because nothing ever really goes as planned.

CSM: How do you maintain your figure or physical physique?MIKE: To stay fit I exercise approximately two hours a day, five to six days out of the week and trying to maintain a healthy diet.

PROMINENCE OF GROWTH AND CAREER:

CSM: What motivates you and how do you maintain the drive of your work?MIKE: My main motivation are the thoughts I have of where I grew up and certain situ-ations I have lived through and where I am today; how fortunate I am now. I truly want to give back to my mother for the sacrifices she has made to make a better life for my siblings and I.

CSM: What’s your greatest mistake or fail-ure and what lesson did you learn from it?MIKE: I like to think my greatest mistake was not exploring and being open minded in trying more things in high school. I stuck to football and did not try to expand my mind to anything else besides being a “good” visual artist, but I have learned that no mistake comes without a lesson or better understanding. I now know more than any-thing that I am passionate about music and not as passionate about a career as a visual artist although I still enjoy it.

CSM: Wave your magic wand, where do you see yourself in ten years?MIKE: In 10 years I see myself as a better performer/musician and most of all a betterlearner of life.

CSM: Why do you want to work in this field or industry?MIKE: I want to work in the music industry because I feel I have something to share to the world. I believe I can help change some-one’s life.

Baptiste can say that modeling is a great adventure that he started a year ago. He was a rugby player in France and he was very far away to imagine that he can get this opportunity to work as a real model. Everything went very fast for him, Baptiste started with a shooting for fashion, and then four months later he was booked by Genesis Model agency in Hong-Kong and Guangzhou. It was a real great experience for Baptiste because he is only nineteen years old and it’s always a pleasure to travel abroad.

You might be doing a fantastic job, but if no one knows that, you won’t be rewarded for it.”

I dreamt to be a professional rugby player but it collapsed because of my injuries...Perhaps, the challenge to do something new, to test myself is the only thing that inspires me. You can take it as a motivation, “the challenge”.”

CSM: In those spans of year/s or the experi-ences, who was your inspiration to venture this kind of work or career?BAPTISTE: I don’t really know if there is one person who helped me to start my mod-eling career. As I said, when I was young, I dreamt to be a professional rugby player but it collapsed because of my injuries… Perhaps the challenge to do something new, to test myself is the only thing that inspires me. You can take it as a motivation, “the challenge”.

CSM: When you were growing up, what was your goal/s or perhaps your dream before prior to the work your currently in?BAPTISTE: It was only about to travel around the world and to meet good person involved in the modeling industry. My first goal was to make the most with what I do! If it works, all is fine! For me, the most important is to be happy and proud of who you are.

CSM: How do you manage your time with you busy schedule?BAPTISTE: I always try to focus on what is really important for me, I have a “to do list” and I’m not scared to cancel what I used to do and switch to what is really important. Life is not always easy and I know it. Then, it’s also important to take the time to relax. You do your best when your mind is relaxed. Body and health reflect your mind. If you don’t take the time to live, I don’t know how it is possible to work and give the best.

CSM: How do you maintain your figure or physical physique?BAPTISTE: As a lot of model, I use to go to the gym! But a big part of the job is in the kitchen to cook healthy. It’s a real life-style. I always take care on what I eat and what I’ll do. Workout is also a way to keep the same intensity when I was when I was playing Rugby! Moving is the life! Healthy lifestyle is a big part of my life and my stud-ies so I really enjoy it. I love to learn about my body!

PROMINENCE OF GROWTH AND CAREER:

CSM: What motivates you and how do you maintain the drive of your work?BAPTISTE: Nowadays what motivates me is to start and live new experiences. Discovering the world and travel is a pas-sion for me... And when it can be your job it’s just fabulous. Modeling industry is a challenge for me and to become a top model is my target.

CSM: Wave your magic wand, where do you see yourself in ten years?BAPTISTE: I imagine myself working for international big brands all around the world. Be a famous model with lot of expe-riences! I want to look behind me and be proud of what I did.

Page 44: CSM Men's Issue: The 3rd Anniversary Special Edition

CSM: Why do you want to work in this field or industry?BAPTISTE: This industry is a world by itself. When you are a model, you meet a lot of persons with different kinds of job. You always have to give a good impression. It’s not a game, for me it is a very serious job. I will be very proud to represent different brands and give them part of my personal-ity. Then, I love the lifestyle of the models! Especially the fitness models! My studies are focused on healthy life, sport and diet so this will help me in both situations. As I said, beauty is important but for me give a smart and intelligent image is important too. When you get it, I think that you have something more than the others. To finish my answer, modeling is something new for me. I just discovered this passion after my young rugby career. In my life, I always need to have new challenges. I know that today I have a real chance to work as a model. Taking care of myself and my physi-cal condition is also good for my health so this is a perfect job for me. CSM: Without being biased, how would your family and friends describe you?BAPTISTE: First, I think that they would say me I’m a happy person. I’m adventur-ous! I’m a determined guy. When I like something I want to give the best and get result as fast as possible. CSM: Your work can be stressful at times, how do you manage those or handle such things?BAPTISTE: When I’m stressed, I try to think about things that will relax me at the end of the day. In modeling it’s important “to take it easy”. Music and chatting with my friends are my way to do it. It helps to evacuate the stress. During my first trip, I had the chance to meet two perfect guys! They helped me to become stronger in my mind and in my way to live my first model-ing adventure. Sometimes, playing FIFA is fine also.

CSM: During your free time or when you have an enough luxury time to relax for a bit, what are the things you usually do to unwind?BAPTISTE: When I have free time, I love to go out and visit the city where I am! It’s sounds like holidays at this moment so I enjoy it! Sometimes I stay in my place and just watch a film to relax. Then when I have free time, sport takes a big place! But it’s a good way to relax and be focused on myself and my training. To finish, I love to do shopping with friends! I can stay in a shop during 2 hours without knowing what I really need, but it’s ok because I love it.

OUTSIDE THE ZONE, OUTSIDE THE BOX:

CSM: What are food and drinks guilty plea-sure you can’t resist and why?BAPTISTE: During a very long time it was the Snikers... Now Nutella and kinder bueno sounds like devil for me (laughs). Ok it’s bad but I can’t resist to a hot chocolate or milkshake with banana, coco and milk. This is only carbs and when you try to get fit, you have to be careful with this kind of macronutrient... It makes you fat if you don’t practice sport. CSM: If you can name five male figures or personalities who display masculinity in their career and great role model for the society, who would they be?BAPTISTE: David Gandy for his charisma as a perfect model, Leonardo Dicaprio for the ambition he has during his films and the energy he gives to me when I see him, Collin Farrell because he is a little bit crazy, we need it during life! Dwayne Johnson because of his arms and Beckam because this is Beckam.

CSM: If you were to name the five things or characteristics that your fan base and supporters doesn’t know about you, what would they be?BAPTISTE: Five things… 1 I had weight problems 4 years ago! 2 I’m sometimes very hard with myself during training ses-sion. 3 I injured myself during rugby career more than 12 times. 3 I love fishing and simple pleasure of life in general. 4 I have the opportunity to play in French TV Series. 5 My priority is to stay myself and enjoy everything!

CSM: On top of your head, what five adjec-tives describe you best?BAPTISTE: Happy, clean lifestyle, honest, determined, and motivated CSM: Who is the most influential man and woman in the world and why?BAPTISTE: Maybe Barack Obama is the most influential man in the world. He repre-sents the open mindedness, the fight against racism and because being the USA’s presi-dent sounds like power and charisma !The most influential woman is for me the English Queen ! She is a symbol all over the world. She is respected and represents rich life with good personality ! CSM: You will be stuck in an island on purpose for one year, what are the top ten priority things you will bring?BAPTISTE: Chicken for protein, bed, mobil phone, xbox, CSM: If you have an unexplained terminal illness and you’re dying, what would be your one, last dying wish?BAPTISTE: I wish that my family and friends just continue their life and don’t let the pain and the sorrow be a part of their everyday life. CSM: During your free time or when you have an enough luxury time to relax for a bit, what are the things you usually do to unwind?MAXIME: I can do many different things to relax. For me the most important is to meet friends and enjoy with my favorite relatives.

OUTSIDE THE ZONE, OUTSIDE THE BOX:

CSM: What are food and drinks guilty plea-sure you can’t resist and why? MAXIME: Why not a juicy double quarter pound or delicious homemade lasagnas

CSM: If you can name five male figures or personalities who display masculinity in their career and great role model for the society, who would they be?MAXIME: Nobody as I compare myself to anyone. The current society is constantly reflecting the image of famous people we need to compare with. I refuse this rule as I don’t want to fall in the mirror mirage.

CSM: If you were to name the five things or characteristics that your fan base and sup-porters doesn’t know about you, what would they be?MAXIME: The most reflecting adjectives are: ambitious, passionate, courageous, care-ful, impatient.

CSM: On top of your head, what five adjec-tives describe you best?MAXIME: I would have to say hardworking, dedicated, caring, honest, and I’m probably the funniest person I know!

CSM: Who is the most influential man and woman in the world and why?MAXIME: No one precisely but David Beckam is someone I respect a lot.

CSM: You will be stuck in an island on pur-pose for one year, what are the top ten prior-ity things you will bring?MAXIME: Stucked on an island? Leave me bananas, a sport field & my friends. I’ll be the happiest man on earth!

CSM: If you have an unexplained terminal illness and you’re dying, what would be your one, last dying wish?MAXIME: I’ll never answer to that question (laughs).

CSM: Lastly, what are your final messages to your fan base and supporters that constantly follow you or at least look up to you?MAXIME: A man gets defined based on his choices. Mine is my relatives, my principles and my future: Helping people, erasing their melancholy or inspiring them.

DANIELDAYTON

PRESENTED BY6:12 PHOTOGRAPHY BY ERIC MCKINNEY

Daniel is only twenty five years old from a small town in Knoxville with southern roots. Currently, while he is not modeling, he works as a registered nurse on the Cardiovascular Unit at Tennova Turkey Creek Medical Center. He has a passion for helping others in need and loves the adrenaline feeling that he gets saving a per-son’s life in emergent situations. It’s the closest thing he can get now that he has had to give up his dream of playing professional football after a career-ending injury on a football scholarship at Cumberland University. Now Daniel’s focus is becoming the next great fashion model with scheduled shoots at various locations.

Nam ut massa turpis, ac blandit justo. Nulla ultri-ces, odio com-modo faucibus commodo, mi nisi tempor”

CSM: In those spans of year/s or the experi-ences, who was your inspiration to venture this kind of work or career?DANIEL: My inspiration was, believe it or not, supermodel Adam Gallagher. It was brought to my attention by quite a few people that I resemble him. I loved his fashion style and the way he really captures the modern look that the younger genera-tion has. I can relate to his type of modeling styles because we have a similar body type and look.

CSM: When you were growing up, what was your goal/s or perhaps your dream before prior to the work your currently in?DANIEL: I had goals and dreams of becom-ing a professional football player, after earning All-American honor in college foot-ball and being rated the nation’s number 1 punt returner my junior year in the NAIA division. Every day my mind was set to be great with waking up at 5am, going to work out in a cross fit-style type of workout with zero breaks. It was intense and tiring, but I had a great lean look with the hard results I was putting in the work in the weight room. After workouts, it was to film, class, and then onto football practice for 3 hours. After football practice, I would spend another hour with the training staff with ice baths and physical therapy, because let’s face it, football is a demanding sport on your body. This was a repetitive routine for five years with football and college until I had reached the most amounts of concussions a doc-tor will allow in a career. My dreams were shot, but you have to be able to roll with the punches and turn one dream into another dream.

CSM: How do you manage your time with you busy schedule?DANIEL: My time is very limited with working 12 hour shifts at the hospital and working out. Finding time for relationships in my life is difficult. My day usually starts with an early morning workout then head-ing into work for a 12-hour shift. My week-ends are directed towards shoots as a model, and spending time with family and friends. I live a very busy life and it is moving 90 mph all the time, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

CSM: How do you maintain your figure or physical physique?DANIEL: I maintain my figure and phy-sique by a low carb and high protein diet. I work out 3 to 4 times a week with 30 minutes of cardio, which keeps me lean. I have always been a very lean type of guy, so adding that bulk and muscle has always been my workout plan to better myself.

PROMINENCE OF GROWTH AND CAREER:

CSM: What motivates you and how do you maintain the drive of your work?DANIEL: My life is motivated by wanting to become great at what I do. I have always had a very hard drive to have high goals and work hard to achieve them. Without goals in life we as people have no purpose. I set a goal and I go out and do everything I can to work towards that goal. Life is too short to not expect only the best and that’s what I want for myself. Wayne Gretzky said, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”

Put yourself out there and don’t live with the regret of never trying. The most successful men have become successful by learning from failure. Be yourself and be humble in all you do, and set goals for yourself so you’ll never become complacent. “

Page 57: CSM Men's Issue: The 3rd Anniversary Special Edition

CSM: What’s your greatest mistake or fail-ure and what lesson did you learn from it?DANIEL: My greatest mistake was going to a model agency and having them tell me I have all kinds of flaws and need to change this and that about my look and body. The reason why I got into modeling and the fashion industry is because everyone has a different look and style. I want to instill my type of style and look into the industry. Therefore, picking the right agency is such a big part of how you want to be represented as a brand into the fashion world.

CSM: Why do you want to work in this field or industry?DANIEL: I have always loved being in front of a camera as a kid, and I love the fashion world. My whole life, my friends have told me I should go into modeling. So one day, I went out and met local photographer Eric McKinney. We did a photo shoot, and I loved how the pictures turned out. I had done a couple of shoots before in Nashville and Knoxville, but this shoot was all about me and my unique kind of style.

CSM: Without being biased, how would your family and friends describe you?DANIEL: My friends and family would describe me as a very energetic person who is caring for others and loves to have a good laugh. A friend who you can always count on being there for you during rough times.

CSM: Your work can be stressful at times, how do you manage those or handle such things?DANIEL: I take every day as a battle. You have to focus on the here and now and not stress yourself of what is to come. I live in the present and take my life step by step.

CSM: During your free time or when you have an enough luxury time to relax for a bit, what are the things you usually do to unwind?DANIEL: When it comes to unwinding on my time off, I spend that time out on the golf course with some of my friends, hav-ing a good time. I also just added a new gold retriever puppy to my family, so he’s a big part of my life now as well; his name is Jeeter. That little energetic ball of fur takes up more than enough of my time. I also like to spend my free time with family and friends, at a bonfire and just living in the moment.

OUTSIDE THE ZONE, OUTSIDE THE BOX:

CSM: What are food and drinks guilty plea-sure you can’t resist and why? DANIEL: My guilty pleasure would have to be Christmas cakes and a cold Mountain Dew. I couldn’t say no to anyone who offered me a Christmas cake.

CSM: If you can name five male figures or personalities who display masculinity in their career and great role model for the society, who would they be?DANIEL: The first male figure would be my hero, Peyton Manning. He is just an all-around great guy---athletic with a positive attitude and funny personality. He can be funny at times with his skits on Saturday Night Live, but also knows when it’s time to be serious at crunch time. My second male figure would be my favorite actor Matthew McConaughey. He has a one of a kind personality that just seems like the coolest person to have as a friend. I am a big fan of every single one of his movies and my favorite has to be “Dazed and Confused.” My third male figure is one of the most well-known motivational Christian speak-ers of all time with the new generation, Jefferson Bethke. If you have not heard this man speak, I urge you to go on YouTube and watch his videos; you’ll see why this man is a stand-up guy. My fourth male fig-ure would be Mark Cuban, whom I idolize as a person in whole. He has the shark men-

Page 58: CSM Men's Issue: The 3rd Anniversary Special Edition

tality to go get whatever he wants and roll with the punches. If you are not aware of this man in action, I suggest you watch the show Shark Tank. I’m sure you’ll catch him on the sidelines at Mavericks’ games being that he is the owner. My fifth and final male figure who is a great role model to society is Rob Dyedek. This man is out-of-control and pos-sibly the funniest guy alive. He gives back to the community even with all his success, and he’s not afraid of having a show about his life and involving his family.

CSM: If you were to name the five things or characteristics that your fan base and sup-porters doesn’t know about you, what would they be?DANIEL: I am a country boy from the south who loves his mother’s cooking. I believe in Christ and live my life through my religion. I love me some Tennessee football, and you can always find me tailgating at the games. I’m kind of a neat freak and germaphobe. Food and sports is the way to my heart.

CSM: On top of your head, what five adjec-tives describe you best?DANIEL: Athletic, Energetic, Loving, Caring, Resilient.

CSM: Let’s say a genie does exist, if you can marry someone in the world who would it be and why?DANIEL: If a genie existed, I would marry Jennifer Aniston because she has the looks and personality every guy looks for. All of her movies are great, and she always gives me a good laugh. She has a playful personal-ity which would best fit my personality.

CSM: You will be stuck in an island on pur-pose for one year, what are the top ten prior-ity things you will bring?DANIEL: If I were stuck on an island for a year, I would have to bring a fishing pole to have a hobby and to hunt for food. I would have to have a toothbrush and tooth-paste, because keeping my teeth clean is a must. I would bring a year’s worth supply of Gatorade to drink. I wouldn’t be able to function or live without my lifeline---my cell phone. I would have a California king bed and build a tiki hut. I’d bring my friendly companion Jeeter, the golden retriever. A lighter for the massive bonfires I would start. The last couple of things would be a baseball bat and baseball for fun activities for me and Jeeter. Lastly, a flashlight for when I hear noises out in the wild!

CSM: If you have an unexplained terminal illness and you’re dying, what would be your one, last dying wish?DANIEL: My last dying wish would be to fly an F–16 fighter jet like my grandfather did. I have always wanted to feel that adrenaline rush and how crazy it would be to fly one of those things.

CSM: Lastly, what are your final messages to your fan base and supporters that constantly follow you or at least look up to you?DANIEL: My final message would be to put yourself out there and don’t live with the regret of never trying. The most successful men have become successful by learning from failure. Be yourself and be humble in all you do, and set goals for yourself so you’ll never become complacent.

I have always loved being in front of a camera as a kid, and I love the fashion world. My whole life, my friends have told me I should go into modeling. CSM helped me achieve that goal and has given me a taste of working someone other than the individual client. I have had several photos published in spreads and a cover photo as well. Seeing my work in print has given me confidence that I can reach for the stars and get there and continue to set goals and work hard at achieving new things.

Center Stage Magazine reached out to me and I was beyond willing to help out. I’ve been in the fitness industry for just over two years and made a small splash in a giant pool. It takes hard work, dedication and persistence to master any-thing. 7-10 years or 10,000 hours is the guidepost to becom-ing an expert in any area.

I have a unique story about turning my life around from a negative to a positive struggling with depression, drugs and alcohol I crashed and hit rock bottom. From rock bottom I built the foundation of my new life and switched my nega-tive addictions of drinking and doing drugs with positive addictions of working and personal development putting my life in God’s hands.

I’ve been blessed with many opportunities gracing the cov-ers of three romance novels and the cover of CSM shooting with some of the world’s very best photographers. On Octo-ber 17, 2015 I will celebrate 4 years of continued sobriety. I commit myself to constant and never-ending improvement and am excited to seize the new opportunities that await me. If one can do it, we all can do it. Cheers to your success my friends!!

Unlike many other magazines, Center Stage Magazine makes a model truly feel significant through the way that they actually keep in contact before and after the magazines are released as well as truly trying to gain insight and get to know us. They really take the time to get to know their models and showcase them in a positive/beneficial light. It’s a magazine any model would be proud to be a part of.

It was a way that I could explain how it all began in the last 18 years of my passion for bodybuilding and it is increasingly intense. Right now, I’m sponsored by sup-plement brand Mex Nutrition which went on sale in 2010 at the hands of Miroslav Egner and the icon Flex Wheeler and the Cool Power branded gym clothes from my great friend Erol Sert. From there, someone nominated me for the cover girl contest. I was very impressed with the images and the support I

received by CSM. I will always be honored to be a part of CSM

as I know I will receive equal support in return. When I was featured, it made me want to

improve myself even more and keep going further in my

fitness life and accomplish new goals. I look forward to even

more work with CSM and any opportunity that may occur.

COVERAGE BYIAN CARLO BAJADA & IVANNA CHRISTENSEN

Page 86: CSM Men's Issue: The 3rd Anniversary Special Edition

CSM: Your last appearance for Center Stage Magazine was during the Gold Issue: Refinement of Ladies & Gentlemen (January-February 2015) and the first People’s Choice features, what was your experience like when you will be in an international publication?ALEX: Being featured in CSM was amaz-ing and gave me such a positive start to the year! It was then that I realized I was able to reach out further than my home country and communicate with a wider audience and this felt great! Not only this but I was also able to make friends and new associ-ates across the world, and that’s what life is all about. CSM: When you were young or let us say the time you were starting out in this indus-try or field, did you ever dreamt to be on the cover of any publication? What are your thoughts now that you are on the cover for the 3rd Anniversary Special issue of Center Stage Magazine?ALEX: You’re right, I did dream of it. Thinking about it is actually quite over-whelming sometimes and it’s worth taking a step back and being very grateful for how far I’ve come. As a boy, I looked at maga-zines and thought to myself how much I would love to be the guy on the front! The dream always seemed so impossible and hard to reach, and breaking into the indus-try seemed so difficult! Slowly but surely I started to get my name around and fantastic rewards like this happen! Thank you. I hope it inspires others to realize their dreams, work extremely hard and never give up or stop believing.

CSM: This year’s bimonthly edition is about being a man and a gentleman, how would you describe a man with stature and style?ALEX: I think a man with stature and style is a man who can carry himself with confi-dence. A man who looks after himself, not just on the outside but overall. A man who realizes that his body is the only machine that he’ll keep forever, so he strives to maintain it and keep it healthy the best he can. This gentleman will make sure that he does not put people down in order to make himself better, but instead will lift people up, surrounding himself with people that look up to him. This kind of man has true stature above any others. CSM: Personally and professionally speak-ing, what is the real measure of being an attractive man and sexy?ALEX: It is obvious that most people see attraction as the superficial look that we have - our bodies, our faces etc. However I believe that what is truly the measure of an attractive man is his character. From my experience, both personally and profession-ally, the most attractive part of a man is his passion, his drive, his success and direction. When a man knows what he wants and then achieves it, that’s the biggest attraction. And then when he fails and has the strength to carry on fighting, that really shows his inner character - and is very important in the jour-ney of success!

CSM: The industry you are in right now is very fast-paced, competitive and full of talent and politics at times, what makes you stand out from the rest that people will know that you’re you, like your trademark?ALEX: You are right, this industry is very competitive and very fast paced, and if you don’t keep pushing yourself then you will easily get lost in the crowd and forgotten. I think it’s very important to keep thinking out-side the box and finding projects which are different to what everyone else are doing. For example you may have seen my ‘free hugs’ video which went viral online. Also, finding ways to show people your true personality always helps separate you from the crowd, rather than just getting to know an ‘image’. You can always find and use my hashtag - #Crockit or #CrockFit, that’s my trademark! CSM: Work-wise and career-wise, what does it take to be successful in this type of career and what is your great advice to those who will venture this kind of work?ALEX: I could give lots of advice for people considering a career in fitness and modeling but I think the main pointers are the follow-ing: First, make it your life! If you believe in fitness then you must make your lifestyle revolve around fitness, in order for your body to reflect that. You must practice what you preach and make it your passion, when people around you see what it takes, they will feel inspired. Secondly, enjoy it! You must enjoy what you do. If you don’t, then maybe it’s not the right work for you. I love my work! And lastly, never give up! If you believe in your direction, then never let any failures or other people’s negativity put you off your purpose! You will always come across barriers, and you must have a mind hard as nails to carry on believing in yourself. But it’s worth it! If it was easy, then everyone would do it...

PROMINENCE OF GROWTH AND CAREER:

CSM: What motivates you and how do you maintain the drive of your work?ALEX: I am always setting myself goals to achieve. I always have my mind on the next prize or job, but also never fail to look further than the short term and think about where I want things to lead. I believe pain is a stronger motivator than pleasure. For example I sometimes imagine myself on my death bed when I am old, thinking about my life, thinking how ordinary it was, how many opportunities I missed and how I didn’t push myself to my capability. THIS is a painful motivator because I will do everything in my power to not let that happen, because I dream for extraordinary, not ordinary. What is your fear? Let that be your motivation. CSM: What’s your greatest mistake or failure and what lesson did you learn from it?ALEX: I believe failing is a necessary aspect of success, and every moment should be used as a learning process for next time. And I can tell you from my experience that I have failed a lot! But what I have not failed in, is picking myself up and trying again! It’s essential for success. I think a big mistake I have made in the past, is putting all of my attention on only one thing, and praying that it comes through. it didn’t... Therefore I felt completely let down and heart broken and didn’t know where or how to pick myself up. My suggestion is that you of course focus on your main priorities but always look beyond that at the bigger picture. If you continue to work hard with the right mind set that’s the time then that you can begin to trust that everything will fall in to place, just like you desire.

Page 88: CSM Men's Issue: The 3rd Anniversary Special Edition

CSM: Wave your magic wand, where do you see yourself in ten years?ALEX: In 10 years my life will be different in many ways. My name will be recogniz-able in households across the world - not for any ego or selfish reasons, but to represent my story. People across the world will be inspired to see that I have followed my dream and have made it a success and they also can do the same with the right tools. In 10 years, I will make sure my family and everyone close to me are happy, comfortable in life and as healthy as they can be.

CSM: Why do you want to work in this field or industry?ALEX: I love being in the health and fitness industry because it’s an every growing mar-ket that will never die because I haven’t met anyone who isn’t interested in their health and wellbeing. I believe some people act like they don’t as a defense against their insecuri-ties; however the majority of people seem to show an interest. I think its human nature that we want to improve ourselves, and being given the opportunity to assist people in edu-cation and tools to better themselves is the most satisfying thing for me. On another note, I love working hard myself! So being in a modeling career is a fantastic place for me to showcase what I can achieve and help inspire others to follow my footsteps. CSM: Without being biased, how would your family and friends describe you?ALEX: Positive, hardworking, driven, career minded, balanced, thoughtful, giving, mak-ing the most of life for himself and everyone around him.

CSM: Your work can be stressful at times, how do you manage those or handle such things?ALEX: Well thank fully, a big part of my life is exercise and this actually is one of my hap-piest times, so that really helps de stress and makes me feel good. I do undertake a lot of stress and have a high paced life, and I can usually handle it by keeping my motivation in mind so I can stay focused. However something I love doing is travelling and going on short holidays. This really helps break up my work life and forces me to take a break when it is really needed! Lastly, sometimes if I am not too busy in the morning, I will go for a walk and listen to music and meditate before the day begins.

OUTSIDE THE ZONE, OUTSIDE THE BOX:

CSM: What are food and drinks guilty plea-sure you can’t resist and why? ALEX: As you know, I am usually very strict and clean with my diet and nutrition. But here and there I treat myself.... Cookies and chocolate are a guilty pleasure of mine. Jack Daniels is my drink! CSM: If you can name five male figures or personalities who display masculinity in their career and great role model for the society, who would they be?ALEX: Arnold Schwarzenegger, David Beckham, Will Smith, Richard Branson and Michael Jordan CSM: If you were to name the five things or characteristics that your fan base and sup-porters doesn’t know about you, what would they be?ALEX: I am shy in big groups or new people, if everyone around me is happy then I’m happy, seeing people give up makes me frus-trated, I believe a lot of my success and atti-tude is due to great parents and if someone tells me I can’t do it, I won’t give up until I prove them wrong.

Page 89: CSM Men's Issue: The 3rd Anniversary Special Edition

CSM: On top of your head, what five adjec-tives describe you best?ALEX: Athletic, kind-faced, confident, strong minded and good listener. CSM: Who is the most influential man and woman in the world and why?ALEX: Angelina Jolie & Bradley Cooper. They are both great talents, and the film industry has such a far reach in this world in regards to who and how people are influ-enced. Although they are brilliant on screen they also show incredible values and attitude in life that we should all adopt at some level. CSM: Let’s say a genie does exist, if you can marry someone in the world who would it be and why?ALEX: Why would I want to marry anyone other than my lovely girlfriend? I want to be with someone who knows me, understands me, cares for me, knows every inch of my story and loves me for it... That’s her. CSM: You will be stuck in an island on pur-pose for one year, what are the top ten prior-ity things you will bring?ALEX: (Laughs) is this for luxury or for sur-vival? It’s a tough question. Here are the fol-lowing: my girlfriend, a picture of everyone in my family and friends, a guitar, a knife, a toothbrush, a notebook and pen, weights/gym equipment, a boat, sunblock, and my phone to call rescue.CSM: If you have an unexplained terminal illness and you’re dying, what would be your one, last dying wish?ALEX: Wow that’s a tough moment to think about, but answering from my heart - I would want nothing more than to have my family and close people around me so I can tell them all how grateful I am to have had their sup-port and love and so much more.

CSM: Lastly, what are your final messages to your fan base and supporters that constantly follow you or at least look up to you?ALEX: I would like to express my huge gratification for how much support I have had so far, from people all across the planet! It’s overwhelming sometimes to see how many people I have communicated with and I hope I have helped and inspired many of you. Every single fan that supports me is spe-cial to me, as I know I would not be where I am without them. Please continue to follow me to see my exciting and fun journey of unravel.

ason Oliphant is a photographer that specializes in fitness! His daytime hours are spent working in the law enforcement field. Photography has always been a means for him to escape the stress of work. Jason’s first job as a teenager was at a grocery store, and during his time on breaks, he would always go through the magazines, which began his fascination with photography. He has always been a fan of comic books, fitness and wrestling which is why he is being involved with fitness and bodybuilding seemed to always be a natural fit. Fitness competitors are sometimes larger than life char-acters which he often follows in his work. Here’s an exclusive short feature interview to the man behind the lens of a camera.

J

CSM: In those spans of year/s or the experiences, who was your inspiration to venture this kind of work or career?JASON: My inspiration to fitness photography was being a avid sports fan, from my youth until present time. When I was in high school, a classmate began working out and returned from summer break, with a totally different body than he left with. I noticed how all the girls were so impressed with his muscular frame, that I thought, I must give it a try also. I began training with him and began a fan of the gym. I was a skinny kid at the time and became a fan of the sport of body-building. Years later, I was working on glamour photography photo-shoot with a model and I asked her to flex her bicep. After flexing, she asked me if I was into fitness, and I told her that one of my dreams was to be a fitness photographer. The model, ended up doing a great favor, by setting up a photo-shoot at gym where she knew the owner, and she also brought a makeup artist, four fitness competitors and two models. This

photo-shoot was really my launching point. At that point, My Space had all but died and Facebook, Model Mayhem and Flickr were my new photo outlets of choice. In an attempt to get a following I posted often and after seeing a friend of mine, get several friend requests from fitness competitors, I began to simply go to fit-ness shows and take photos of all the competitors and then post them on my Facebook photography page to gain followers. This actually worked for me and I began doing regular fitness photo-shoots in the gym. It’s taken me almost five years to pay dues and build my business to where it is now.CSM: How do you manage your time with you busy schedule?JASON: It’s a tough balancing act, between my “day job”, family and photography but withprior planning I can make it work, most of the times. I miss out on many of “last minuteshoots” but I try to accommodate as many shoot requests that I can.

Growth and Career:CSM: What motivates you and how do you maintain the drive of your work?

JASON: I watch several different photographers that I admire and I constantly grade mywork against their work and try to close the gap between me and them. My artistic growthmotivates me, I enjoy the responses I get from not just fitness competitors but also fellow

photographers and the advice they give me.CSM: Wave your magic wand, where do you see yourself in ten years?

JASON: I honestly don’t know, the landscape of fitness and photography keeps changing. A few years ago, I could post a image on Facebook and reach hundresd of people

instantly, now without paid promotion on Facebook, only a fraction of the people that follow my page seem to see my photos. I’m not sure where instagram or other social

media outlets will be in 5 years either.

I enjoy the people, their stories, their journey and the sometimes larger than life personas of some of the people that I get to work with.”

CSM: During your free time or when you have an enough luxury time to relax for a bit, what are the things you usually do to unwind?

JASON: Trolling social media!! I seem to have a niche with the “First time model” So I often spend time searching for the next big thing! The next it girl!

CSM: Lastly, what are your final messages to your fan base and supporters that constantly follow you or at least look up to you?JASON: I’m really a regular guy, I don’t take myself that seriously. I’ve never

been a camera snob.

CSM: On top of your head, what five adjectives describe you best?JASON: Crazy, Witty, Caring, Emotional and trusting

Hugh Michael Jackman’s daredevil grin has lit up silver screens the world over, but his lesser-known work in theatre and musicals has earned him widespread respect as an actor, singer and all-round performer. He may have cavorted with the biggest names in Hollywood, but he has also received plaudits for his choice of roles in theatre. From a mutant hermit to a song-and-dance man, Hugh Jackman can nail any role. As a husband, father, and philanthropist, he takes being a box-office superhero to another level.

When Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness met for the first time, in 1995 in Melbourne, on the set of the TV drama

Correlli, she was the star playing the title character and Jackman was the novice, hired

to play her love interest less than an hour after graduating from the Western

Australian Academy of Performing Arts, in Perth. Right from the start the

producers liked what they saw. At 26, tall and slim, with a rangy prettiness, Jackman

played a feral sort, a convict beaten senseless in police custody, and Furness, then 39, played the prison psychologist

battling her own attraction as she nursed him back to health.

You can see their first kiss online: The six-foot-two Jackman corners Fur-ness in a prison hallway, blocking her exit and taking her breath away with a kiss that combines menace and unhurried sexual electricity. The differ-ence in age didn’t seem to get in their way. The producers told her, “We’re really happy with your chemistry.” She told them she’d keep working on that. The couple have clearly told their story before. Over a leisurely lunch three days before the premiere of Jackman’s sixth outing as Wolverine— the immortal X-Men mutant with the adamantium claws—in a restau-rant nine stories below their Manhattan river-view apartment, Hugh and Deb happily recall the cat-and-mouse game of their mutual seduction: how Jackman suddenly stopped talking to her on set; how Furness, who is blonde, bluff, and quick to laugh, called him on his crazy behavior; how, by way of explanation, he waved her off, embarrassed about falling for the leading lady on his first professional job, confessing his attraction to her at the same instant he was saying he’d get over it; how she responded to the confession by saying, Yeah, she was falling for him too.

embarrassed about falling for the leading lady on his first professional job, con-fessing his attraction to her at the same instant he was saying he’d get over it; how she responded to the confession by saying, Yeah, she was falling for him too. All happily married couples have a story like this, one they tell over and

over, in fast and slow versions, surprising each other with a favorite detail, reviving a stretch of familiar patter with a vivid turn just rediscovered this time

through. “So, I decided, I won’t ask her to marry me for six months,” Jackman said, recounting how he fought his natural decisiveness to avoid coming on too

strong and making a fool of himself. “Then after four months I thought, that’s the most ridiculous rule!” This time he skips the part where he buys the rose gold

wedding ring, invites her on a walk in the park, and proposes in front of the schoolgirls who happen to be standing near the table he has set up with flowers,

everything already in advance, and the schoolgirls can’t resist asking her too: So, what is your answer?

Page 98: CSM Men's Issue: The 3rd Anniversary Special Edition

Instead, Jackman stops, allowing himself a mischievous gleam that doesn’t go with the

grave Martin Van Buren–style muttonchops he grows every time he plays Wolverine. “And it gets better every year,” Furness says, with a fond look of her own.

“And here we are, 18 years. Is it 18?” Instead, Jackman stops, allowing himself a

mischievous gleam that doesn’t go with the grave Martin Van Buren–style muttonchops

he grows every time he plays Wolverine. “And it gets better every year,” Furness says, with a fond look of her own. “And here we are, 18

years. Is it 18?”It certainly got better last year. Jackman made $55 million over the past 12 months, more than any other actor on the planet during that span except Robert Downey Jr. and Channing Tatum. He was nominated for an Oscar for best actor for his performance in Les Miserables. (He lost to Daniel Day-Lewis but won a Golden Globe.) He signed on for a seventh go at Wol-verine, a record for an actor as a franchise superhero and a testament to his box office muscle. He played another character with Oscar potential, the dark antihero in Prisoners, which opens September 20. But not every year has been such an epic win. In 1999, when Jackman and Furness moved to Los Angeles, they said encouraging things on Aussie TV about Jackman’s Hollywood prospects. He had just signed with Creative Artists, and he wanted to try his luck in the capital city of film. The interviews were accu-rate. But their real motivation was more urgent and intimate: The couple, who’d always wanted to have kids of their own and adopt too, had suffered setbacks conceiving. They didn’t want to add to their stress by having to endure a protracted Australian adoption. As Furness says, the adoption process in Australia can take from five to 10 years and is in deep need of reform.

Page 99: CSM Men's Issue: The 3rd Anniversary Special Edition

Jack ma n we a rs a B rion i su it a nd swe ater ; P iag et watch .

It all proved much easier in the U.S. And on May 15, 2000, they got the break they had come here for: Both Hugh and Deb were standing by in the delivery room at the birth of their son. Exactly two months after that, as they were adjusting to the sleep-deprived joys of life with a newborn, the one big act-ing job Jackman had landed in Hollywood, playing the reluctant superhero Wolverine, hit the screen and cleared $54 million in its opening weekend, changing forever his abil-ity to duck into a deli for a bagel.

The list of Aussies who had made it big in the states was short—Olivia Newton-John, the Bee Gees, Nicole Kidman, that guy who played Agent Smith in The Matrix, Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, the Wiggles—and Jackman’s inexorable ascent to the Hollywood A-list was big news back home. But Jackman and Furness’s consistent activism on behalf of adoption (they added another child, daugh-ter Ava, in 2005) has probably had a bigger impact on couples in their country.

Adoption is a fraught topic for Australians. In 1901 the government passed a number of Jim Crow–style measures now referred to as the “White Australia policy.” One involved dispossessing native Australian families of their children, under the Orwellian-sounding Aborigines Protection Amending Act, which resulted in a “stolen generation” of children ripped from their families and raised in mis-sions or as wards of the state. The practice persisted until around 1970—and the coun-try’s prime minister didn’t apologize for the program until 2008—so taboos and recrimi-nations have lingered, leading to a regulatory mess that has led countless couples deep into heartache.

As a child growing up in Melbourne, Furness dreamed of becoming a lawyer to fight injus-tice. Since she became a parent, adoption, along with related issues such as orphaned or abandoned children, has become the out-let for all her “passion and impetus.” She created National Adoption Awareness Week (and as its founder has addressed Parliament) and sits on the board of Worldwide Orphans in Australia. “I’m working with Americans to create an international campaign to shine a light on the fact that there are 153 million orphans in the world,” she says. “If that were

a country, it would be the ninth-largest in the world, just ahead of Russia.”For the next few weeks, in a switch from their usual division of labor, Jackman is taking care of the kids on set, and she’s heading off with Bill Clinton’s Global Initiative to inves-tigate adoption policies and the condition of orphan refugees in six African countries.

During a break in our conversation, as the waiter explains the niceties of one of the day’s specials to Furness, Jackman quietly hums a snatch of song in his baritone purr. Since he burst onto the scene in 2000, he has split his time between Hollywood and Broadway. Onstage he has hosted the Tonys and won one, too. On film he has spent more time topless than Kate Winslet. It’s clear he owes nothing to trick photography; even at lunch Hugh is unmistakably jacked. He has rolled up the sleeves of his olive Henley, and the veins on his forearms bulge, the effects of a morning workout on his studiously low body fat. When it comes to ordering, People’s former Sexiest Man Alive (2008) follows his wife’s example and goes for the slow-cooked arctic char.He sheds all this muscle seemingly on cue—going from ripped comic book hero to lithe song-and-dance man like some cross-fit Stanislavski. Somehow, the humming fits his disciplined regimen—a few sotto voce moments of vocal technique, a few more seconds logged by a hardworking actor on his way to 10,000 hours. Such steady prac-tice turned his natural rugby growl into the rafter-shaking range he displayed as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables. (At his first pro-fessional audition for a musical, for Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, he sang “Stars” from Les Miz, and the director told him, “Well, you can throw that one away. You’ll never be in that musical.” Then he gave him the lead anyway.) But the hummed riff also fits with what Jim Mangold, the director of The Wolverine (which was rounding $350 million worldwide as we went to press), con-siders his essential quality. “There’s a joy to being with him,” Mangold says. “With many actors of his magnitude of stardom, there can be an aspect of their existence that’s royal and apart. But that’s not the way with Hugh. He’s got an exuberance and unguardedness, and he talks to everybody on set. He loves life and is really grateful for the one that’s

Page 100: CSM Men's Issue: The 3rd Anniversary Special Edition

been granted to him.”

It’s easy to be cynical about nice celebri-ties, but let’s roll the tape here, this one from Oscar night: Jennifer Lawrence, rushing up to accept her award for best actress, trips over the flouncy corolla of her Dior dress and falls on her face. The entire audience at the Dolby Theatre freezes—except for Hugh Jack- man, who leaps up and offers Lawrence a hand. (Bradley Cooper follows suit, but Lawrence is on her feet by now.)

Perhaps it was such instinctive niceness, combined with Jackman’s Broadway chops and, weirdly enough, the total lack of actual evidence, that fueled rumors that the happily married actor and devoted father was gay. His Tony-winning turn as the loose-limbed sexual metamorph and piano man Peter Allen in The Boy from Oz added an element of wish fulfillment. “People who knew Peter would come up to us on the street and get emotional,” Furness says, “because they felt as if they had him back for a minute. And it seemed as though the entire world knew him. Everyone was like, “Oh, me and Peter—”

To this day, they’re all like, ‘I slept with him!’” Jackman joins in. “And all I want to say is, ‘You’re not the only one, pal!’ Girls, guys, everyone! I’d say that’s happened at least 100 times.”

Allen died in 1992, at the age of 48, of AIDS, and during his stint playing the croon-er Jackman raised phenomenal amounts of cash through impromptu auctions for the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS charity, selling his sweaty undershirts and gold lame belts at the end of shows for anywhere from $5,000 to $25,000 each.

“It’s because you get them so excited,” Furness says.

“I’d sell my soul for a good cause.”

“He’d be a great auctioneer, if the acting doesn’t pan out.”

Jackman and Furness have more than just actorly patter in common: Both were raised by single accountants. Hugh’s dad was a partner in Price Waterhouse Australia. As

the only child of a powerful woman, Furness grew up thinking women were the world’s dominant force, and it shows. As one of five kids, Jackman’s life ran by a strict chore rotation schedule. He too is still reaping the benefits. The differing family setups—Deb’s mom couldn’t say no to her precious singleton; Hugh’s dad was tight-fisted with his unruly brood about everything except education—left them with opposite and com-plementary traits: She’s quick to celebrate; he keeps her grounded. But they also share a tendency to think long-term, with a faith that small, steady improvements can lead to global change.

“My dad’s main client was the World Bank,” Jackman says, “and he spent most of his time traveling to Third World countries. His partic-ular interest lay in the eradication of poverty through development and business.” Furness says he’s his father’s son in that regard—a “secret economist,” according to her—and he always has some treatise by Jeffrey Sachs or Mohammed Yunus on his nightstand. It was Yunus, the Bangladeshi banker who won the Nobel Prize for his pioneering work in microcredit, who suggested that Jackman capitalize on his high profile by founding a social business, Paul Newman–style. This led to Laughing Man coffee (motto: “All Be Happy”), which does business in fair trade coffee, tea, and chocolate, with all profits going to charity. Jackman helps guide the money to such funds as World Vision and Global Poverty Project, which is led by a young Aussie, Hugh Evans.

When I express skepticism at the idea of chocolate eradicating poverty, Jackman gets excited, even a little intense. I can practi-cally hear the snikt of the Wolverine’s claws. “In our generation people said the same thing. But this is our version of slavery. And since the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals were set, in the last 13 years extreme poverty is close to half what it used to be.” Jackman sounds very reasonable on the subject, so much so that he soon has me convinced that ending world poverty is an attainable goal.

In his next movie, the harrowing Prisoners, Jackman plays a father who takes matters into his own hands when his daughter is kid-

napped. The movie has an all-star cast: Viola Davis, Paul Dano, Jake Gyllenhaal, Terrence Howard, Maria Bello. And it quickly subverts its Liam Neeson–y plot. Jackman, as a woodsy contractor scrap-ing by in hard-times America, gives vent to shattering spasms of underclass rage. Gyllenhaal, as the wary detective on the case, is the object of many of these rages. Even with that adversarial setup—he called their scenes “cage matches”—Gyl-lenhaal walked away from the experience calling Jackman “approachable and kind and loving. I admire him and consider him a mentor and big brother of sorts.”

There are mature and powerful perfor-mances from both actors, and Jackman especially seems like an early favorite for a best actor nomination—if the nominat-ing committee can get over the movie’s grimness and moral ambivalence. In the meantime he’s back at his day job—the next X-Men film, now in production—traveling to and from Montreal, skipping desserts, and sporting the beard (in the film Wolverine is sent back to the past, to play opposite Jennifer Lawrence as the young Raven). I ask Furness if she actu-ally likes him that way.

“I do,” she says. “But I like him clean-shaven.” He’s been clean-shaven for all his Broadway stints—and, as a bonus; he can drive home at night. “But I like him all ways: chubby, muscley, skinny. I’m always having affairs.” She laughs and gasps at the same time. “Don’t make that headline.”
